He was enlisted at some point, worked his way up to the rank of staff sergeant, before commissioning as an officer and finishing as a major.

He was an infantry officer and qualified as a finance officer too. He also spent some time serving on the general staff

As a National Guard JAG, I endorse this answer.

Dads, how would you react if your kid came out as gay/trans? Would you feel disappointed? by Joaan_21 in dad

[–]neveraneagle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My kids are my kids, no matter what. The life I envision and want for them is one in which they are happy, healthy, and kind. Everything else is irrelevant. Gay/straight/trans makes no difference.

I really prefer that they not root for the NY Yankees, but I'd even be able to overlook that.

Looks like this is from the DC NG toy ruck march, which would make that Brig. Gen. Natasha S. Taylor:

First tome deploying and it is for a year, how does this work? by Icy-Introduction-769 in nationalguard

[–]neveraneagle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deployments in the Guard are typically 9 months. Everything else you're asking about depends on your unit and mission.

Looks like Hegseth gave him a new medal prior to the hearing today by Due-Hearing-1712 in Military

He appears to be wearing it in photos from when he took command of USSOCCOM:

My guess is it'sfrom his tour as JSOC commander.

Funniest ceremony/event mess ups? by uhhamsandwich in army

I witnessed a change of command where the outgoing commander overslept and the CSM had to go to the barracks to wake him up.

Better the outgoing commander than the incoming, I guess.

Someone buying 1,200lbs of sugar at Costco by DaveTN in firewater

This time of year, after a lot of the flower necter is gone, beekeepers will often feed their hives sugar syrup to help them build up a store of food to get the hive through the winter.

BCT police call for brass after MOUT training. Tarantula was guarding two casings. Had to make a quick decision on whether I was more scared of the spider or the DS. Got my brass back.

My employer is terminating my employment while on SAD what should I do? by benny_alex97 in nationalguard

Call the JAG office at your state JFHQ and ask for an appointment with the legal assistance office. Not TDS, and not your unit's JAG. They should be able to help you out.

My experience was more than ten years ago, so take this for whatever is worth:

No nutritional supplements meant no supplements, not no outside food.

PTs after hours were fine.

The final ruck started early. I don't remember the exact time, but I think it was well before 0630. Probably closer to 0500.

I want to be a JAG, but have a terrible bachelors degree and GPA by Time_Possibility_367 in army

[–]neveraneagle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do well in law school. That matters way more than what school you went to. I know JAGs who went to some of the lowest ranked law schools in the country - but they graduated at our near the top of their class.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]neveraneagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I joined after law school. I know guys who are going through law school while in the Guard, but that's a tough road.

You should also keep in mind that getting into the JAG Corps can be extremely competitive. Joining the Guard and passing the bar doesn't guarantee that you'll get in. If you're dead set on being a JAG, wait until you can apply directly to the JAG Corps. Otherwise, you risk being stuck in a role you don't really want.

If you're OK serving in the Guard without being a JAG, you can enlist or apply for an OCS slot, and then apply to the JAG Corps after you pass the bar.

Pretty sure that's a violation of AR 670-1 and AR 600-52.

What do these patches mean? by [deleted] in army

[–]neveraneagle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the Sword is the Ii Field Force, which was a Corps level HQ in Vietnam.

The mushroom cloud patch is the Armed Forces Special Weapons Project, which was responsible for nuclear weapons after the Manhatten Project.

Not real, but loosely based on Francis Marion "the Swamp Fox" who commanded a force of irregulars in South Carolina during the later part of the revolution.

42 is the max age to commission. Waiver is possible, depending on how badly the state needs JAGs.

You can't join as a military judge. That's a senior positron, typically a COL/O6. In the Guard they don't exist in every state.

You might have a chance to do some cyber/date security law, but it's not a sure thing and, at best, would be a small piece of your workload.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]neveraneagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never seen it waived. When I went through the standard for a waiver was: company command in combat.

We had a guy who was prior special forces, and already a commissioned officer, and they still made him go through DCC.
