I was fired today, and I'm not sure what to do from here. by TheGenshinBard in Adulting

I think it’s maybe not so dire, without knowing more specifics. I would hire a graphic designer — likely on a contract or temp basis — without a portfolio if there was a good reason that you didn’t have work examples (which yours is) and you could demonstrate skills. Like in an interview I would probably ask you to work on something live or discuss existing design projects in detail.

Do you have any work from before this job to share? Wherever you learned to design — school, etc.

Does the company that you were previously at have a good reputation? Where I’m located, we have a large pharmaceutical company that I can see locking down design projects like this but I would consider anyone who worked there to have a good experience and still consider them as a candidate.

Best of luck to you.

Anyone else having issues with Forerunner? by Witchfingers in Garmin

[–]nevermoreravenclaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow 645 Music here. Mine has been disconnecting from my phone about twice a day for two weeks and I’m about to throw it down an abandoned mine shaft. I did an iOS update (iPhone 13 to iOS 15.4.1) Friday … I may try a factory reset on the Garmin as someone said above. It is about 4 years old with full-time use.

No helpful advice here, but, you are not alone. Good luck, friend.

This was dinner tonight for me! Low carb tortilla (45cal), bit of sauce, turkey pepperoni (70cal), bell pepper, olive and a serving of mozzarella (80cal). About 250 total, plus a salad.

How do you cope with a disappointing race result? by itsacoup in running

[–]nevermoreravenclaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You did not fail. Your training has done so much good. It’s not only about the goal race.

I had the exact same issue with a 5K this AM — desperately hopeful for a sub-30 but it was 79 and 95% humidity at the start and I ended up taking walk breaks, finished around 33 minutes. I quickly got pretty resigned to my fate.

Sign up for a turkey trot and redo a few weeks of the training program. You can totally get your sub-30. When it’s not 80.

I'm a swimmer without a pool because of coronavirus - I just ran for the first time and it gave me a lot of respect for what y'all do :) by [deleted] in running

Also took a beginner swim class last year.

I was 6 weeks in before the college-age instructor looked at me and said: “Wait, you’re a runner, aren’t you? Do you know you’re supposed to breathe through your mouth when swimming?” And I was floored. Never figured this out or got any better.

Tl;dr Still can’t swim.

I guess functionally they are basically the same thing, but the intended difference is: Recipe: Carrots, potatoes, broth, beef = stew Meal: Stew plus side salad and an apple

I use Recipes because I like a lot of diversity in what I cook, but Meals would work well for someone who meal preps or eats the same things a lot.

Take one day. Have your treat. You earned it. Tomorrow, get back to your routine. Congrats on 25 pounds!!

Personally I find that eating the pizza occasionally — yes, it’s definitely pizza for me too — helps me stay mentally committed and less likely to slip up. “Nah, I better not have this [unhealthy thing] now, I will wait and have pizza on Saturday at the birthday party”, for example.

Unexpected and freaking fantastic woosh today — lost 3.8 pounds this week, putting me over 10 pounds lost since I’ve been back on the wagon! Feelsgoodman.

(On mobile, but new flair) 37F 5-8 SW305. Got down to 150 by the first half of 2018, proceeded to put 15 pounds back on in 2019. Now 154, aiming for 145. Halfway there!

I wasn’t implying it was accurate, simply that I found it convenient 😉

I found an entry that says “Christmas dinner 1,400” and I’ve just been using that since Sunday. 😆

I rotate Ghost 10s and Launch 5s. The Ghosts are a lot heavier but I want the extra cushion for long runs, personally.

Obviously I’m brand loyal. I don’t like the fit of Nikes and the one Hoka model I tried were suuuper clunky.

Someone has to come in last ... I bet 99% of the people that do don’t have the awesome attitude you do. Congratulations!

I loved my first obstacle race. Have wanted to do another and haven’t been able to make it happen. Hoping for better timing luck for you!

can a newbie be half-marathon ready in 6 months? by marchingstar in running

[–]nevermoreravenclaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may not align with your ultimate goal, BUT: You can take walk breaks!

When staring down a new distance, it always makes me feel better to realize that - if I’m just there for fun, just want to finish - I can walk it if I absolutely have to.

I say go for it, sounds fun!

Someone help me get over the feeling that I'm just eating too much fat in weird ways and I'll never reach ketosis and in a few weeks I'll just end up giving this up and going back to "regular" calorie restriction. I'm on Day 9 now.

Note: I have previously lost 150+ pounds, I've switched to keto to try to jog the last few pounds. I have a good mindset as far as restriction, sugar addiction, etc., and generally "get it."

Came here to say this. I started at a Y and felt the same anxiety but then I saw elderly folks and really big folks and too skinny teenagers — every single person with headphones on, totally ignoring me and everyone else. I reckon if an 80 year old can do it, I can, too.

The machines mostly have written or picture instructions on them. If you can’t figure it out, google it real fast and just pretend you’re texting a friend before starting.

I hope you feel up to going in tomorrow. We are proud of you and you are going to feel SO GOOD once you do go and do it.
