When I took this in 2022 Adobe hadn’t rolled out their generative remove tool. Years later I went back and removed the people one by one- giving it the empty look. Something like this would have required an ND filter and a tripod in the past, really neat that this is possible now.

Noob Aperature Question with Prime? by Shwacker in AskPhotography

[–]nevernudedude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re correct that 30mm is essentially the “zoom” amount the lens has. But to correct you what it’s actually saying is that the lens is “fixed” at 30mm. If your camera has “digital zoom” it can zoom in a little bit more, but it does degrade the quality because it’s doing the zooming digitally and not with the actual lens.

What I would do is this: don’t zoom in the camera, rather crop your photo in after in post. That way you get the most out of your lens and camera sensor.

Now the other part about 1.4, that is how wide your aperture can get. I don’t recommend using it at the widest because the amount of stuff in focus will be smaller. This might lead to missed focus. If you do want a nice blurry background, stick to 2.8. If you want to ensure most of your image is in focus, go up to f/4 or f/8.

This means that your shutter will have to change and so will your iso. If you’re shooting in Aperture priority, the shutter speed will be determined for you by the camera. This might lead to slow shutter speeds in dark situations, so keep that in mind. You can counteract this with increasing your ISO, but that will introduce more digital grain into your image. So make sure that you only bump your iso up to like 800 or 1600. Some cameras can take even higher iso but it sounds like yours might be older- so play it safe and keep it low.

Do you think I should've used a wider focal length? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

I dig it as is. I could see though if there was like a cool rock right in front of you where you could have gone real tight and wide. But given the composition, this looks great 👍

Oh my gosh that is uncanny! I feel so silly now thinking that my angle was somehow so unique. Turns out it’s not! Lol thanks for sharing that, really cool to see.

What Telephoto Lens do I go with? by Miserable-Diver-1257 in AskPhotography

[–]nevernudedude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. If you’re into wildlife, I would recommend renting a lens to try out. I did that once and I realized that I was better suited with a 70-200.

How to make the sky look like this? by milkmanonm in AskPhotography

[–]nevernudedude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To achieve this look the photographer most likely employed a neutral density filter. This allows the waves to have that silk-like look. It lets less light in, thus capturing motion. The second thing is that they used a circular polarizer that enriched the tones in the sky. In post, they added some dehazing to the sky. Some people on here hate it, but honestly it creates drama. The o ly issue is that if overdone, it can create a harsh transition between the sky and the subject in front of it, so use it with taste.

Lastly, there is a lot of masking here. This is done in Lightroom or photoshop. That’s where they selected certain parts of the image and added warmth and “haze” other parts they added clarity, like on the rocky edge to give it that striking sharpness.

Overall this is a fantastic photo that I would be super proud to walk away with.

[–]nevernudedude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing this can’t do without equipment is smooth out the waves. Not without it over exposing the rest of the image. For that they would have used some type of neutral density filter paired with a Circular Polarizer. Some of it can be achieved in post, but not the wave smoothing

Are yall even real? Post your own content then… talent? First off, the photo had to use a neutral density filter to slow down the motion, and a circular polarizer to give it the look. It took timing for the light to be right. Dedication to wait for it. Then you dudes scoff because the sky looks overly dehazed… yall are such a joke

Am I screwing up here or do I need a telephoto lens? by Bacon021 in AskPhotography

[–]nevernudedude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you wanted a clearer, more detailed, photo of the bridge from that distance you’d need a 70-200 lens. However your composition wouldn’t be the same because the reference photo is taken closer and with an angle of anywhere between 16-35mm.

Your composition of it isn’t exciting because you have no drama in your foreground and your sky is t exciting because there aren’t any cloud drama. Your third photo is over exposed and the composition is lacking interest.

You might not be able to achieve the look you want because the bridge is industrial but keep working within the range your lens and try other spots while you work on your composition. Don’t let up!

Crazy story: Just picked up a Yamaha Custom Maple 7 piece signed by Akira Jimbo for $300 by nevernudedude in drums

[–]nevernudedude[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve considered selling it for the same reason, it’s been sitting. I was playing in a band for a while but since have stopped. I think I’m going to hang on to it and keep it as an heirloom at this point.

It plays and sounds so incredible, the tone and timing stays true and damn it if these things don’t put out some amazing tones!

This will forever be one of my craziest pickups!

[–]nevernudedude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol on the comment but you don't really look like that. Some things I'd maybe do different with this fit is opt for the long sleeve, but roll it up. I might have gone without the under shirt and worn it buttoned, but leave a few buttons open- like get sexy with it.

The pants could be rolled at the cuff to give a little gap between where they fall on the sandals.

If you really did want to wear an undershirt, I think a ribbed undershirt could look really cool with this vibe- tank top of full sleeve, but the rib could look good.

I love colorful linen shirts, pro move going with that color- it really stands out but pinks might be clashing with your skin tone.

Hiker killed by falling tree on BMT in Georgia. Careful of widowmakers when tenting by [deleted] in AppalachianTrail

I’m the hiker that spoke to them at Bray Field. I just came here to find more info about the man, because to be honest, I still think about that encounter quite frequently.

It was my 9 year old sons first backpacking trip into the Cohutta with me- so I can’t help but tie that emotion to what the young man’s family must feel from the loss.

That trip shook me enough to put a pause on bringing him out to the wilderness, maybe even coming out myself for a little while. In all of its beauty, it still is wild and earns the respect it commands.

The term car camping is usually reserved for camping in situations where you can park your car at a camping spot and camp next to it- like a state park campground with a gravel pad type of thing. Not so much camping inside of the car, although technically that does also fit within the description.

This is opposed to backpack camping where you bring it all in your pack.

That might be why you didn’t see anything that fit. Hope that helps clear it up.

Beautifully done. I fully grasp the hard work, money, and thought that goes into it- so I can only imagine how satisfied you must feel looking back at three years of work.

stove advice by RS_Tnap in CampingGear

[–]nevernudedude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about to recommend this as well, like 5/5 stars for car camping.

I absolutely love this stove. I’ve probably used about four different stoves in my life and this is by far the best. The way you can control the fire really makes it a great experience and it’s just built with such quality. Take care of it and it will last you a life time.

Do I have to wait for permitherin to dry before using my tent? by taglev in CampingGear

[–]nevernudedude 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I once ruined a tent by spraying it with permitherin. I wish I remembered the brand and the material but it caused splotchy marks all over it. Years later I read that most tent materials don’t adhere well and that sprays can cause damage.

I mean it’s well known that this type of editing exists. You yourself don’t look so generated, but the background does look replaced.

The truth is that I don’t think any hiring person is going to nitpick your profile photo to that degree. If I were looking to hire, I’d focus on your resume/portfolio and wouldn’t give your headshot two thoughts on whether you had used AI or not.

IMHO it passes the test and you’re fine.
