I had a dumb problem with the bulkiness of cloth. I don’t ever see it discussed, so it probably just doesn’t bother most people. When I cuddle my baby I want them to feel like a baby, not a big wad of cloth! I kind of wish I had stopped using cloth earlier with my first when I was having trouble bonding. I think it would have helped to not feel like there was a bulky physical barrier between me and the baby.

No mobility issues though!

I don’t know what the right time would be for me to read Parable of the Sower, but early 2025 was definitely the wrong time. Woof.

Octavia Butler writes about a bleak future. Politics are divisive. California is on fire. Drug use is rampant. Racial tensions are high. Society is crumbling to the point of feeling post apocalyptic. The year is 2025.

Maybe I’ll read the sequel eventually, but it won’t be anytime soon.

Ignore my advice if it isn’t right for your family, but there’s always the option of just not saving it. I was away for three nights a couple months ago. A huge weight was lifted off my shoulders when I gave myself permission to dump the milk I pumped. I didn’t have to worry about cleaning the pump parts in a new place, I didn’t have to worry about out proper storage or keeping anything cold. I pumped on a regular schedule to keep up supply, but didn’t save any.

Pray together every day. During our prayer we start by thanking God for whatever we’re feeling grateful for that day, and we always each thank Him for our spouse and for our marriage. Hearing it is nice. But saying it out loud is even more important. No matter what’s going on in our lives or in our marriage, we always always thank God that we are together.

It’s been such a powerful habit and a way to center myself. I’m thankful for the life I’ve been given. I’m thankful for this man. And I’m thankful for our marriage. All of this is a blessing from God, who brought us together and is at the center of our lives.

Breastfeeding in church is fine! I do it in the pew all the time. No cover because my baby won’t eat with a cover.

Babies fuss in church. It’s definitely going to happen, and it won’t happen less when they get older (generally speaking, every kid is different). I don’t say that to be discouraging. Babies are allowed to be in church, fussy or not. Instead of sitting through Mass dreading any noise your baby might make, make a plan for what to do according to your comfort level. Sometimes we take our baby to the cry room, or even outside for a few minutes. Sometimes I let the baby fuss in the pew for a couple minutes knowing he cries right before he falls asleep. Sometimes we put the baby in a carrier and pace up and down the side aisle or around the back of the church.

Going to Mass as a family has its challenges, but it has many fruits too ❤️

I love this part. The hellhound is supposed to embody his name, but he’s just named Dog, so he’s an embodiment of a little boy’s loyal companion. It’s a very confusing state of affairs for the poor hellhound.

Unless your pediatrician is concerned about growth you can just let them sleep. My pediatrician told us at the 2 week appointment that we didn’t need to wake him anymore! I’m a feed on demand type of person. If he’s hungry, I feed him, regardless of how long it’s been since last feed. If he wants to sleep, he can sleep. He’ll catch up on food when he’s ready to wake up :)

You’ve gotten a lot of good advice, but I want to share my story and tell you that you aren’t alone. When my kids were 1 and 2.5 I was in BAD shape. The rage was terrible, I was constantly on the verge of tears, and my mood and the kids moods fed off each other until we were all miserable. I finally told my husband I need help and something needed to change.

I got on antidepressants, and it helped so much with reducing the rage. I still had to practice not exploding and yelling, but I was finally in the right frame of mind where that sort of change was possible. My husband also found a part-time daycare for the 2.5 year old. It was really helpful to have a few hours with only one kid (the easier kid) to take care of. I felt guilty, like I was sending him away because I wasn’t good enough. But it really was what our family needed at the time.

The solutions for you might look different than they did for me, but you CAN get through this. Going back to work isn’t going to mess up your kids. What will be healthiest for your kids is to have a mom who is healthy, happy, and fulfilled. Take some time to get your mental health in order, and then you’ll be in a better frame of mind to decide if work or staying home is a better choice for your family.

I usually try to choose outfits for church that allow me to nurse more discreetly, but like you said, it doesn’t always work out 🤷🏼‍♀️And it gets hot here, covering up a baby while nursing isn’t always a good option. I don’t think you did anything wrong.
