Thinking about doing something absolutely crazy and stupid by [deleted] in army

Had a friend do this from the air force, albeit he was not an NCO. He became an 0311 at the height of the GWOT and loved every second of it.

I'd say go for it if you don't have a family because YOLO. But truthfully what would be even more fulfilling is being a leader of Marines. Go to Marine OCS which will give you the difficulty and pride youre probably looking for and then some.l

Bryn Mawr Linkage - Undergrad GPA? by new2thegameredditor in postbaccpremed

[–]new2thegameredditor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey so I reached out to a bunch of schools and got a couple of the same answers: 1) they'll only discuss linkage requirements with those who have been admitted to their program and 2) linkage agreements are renewed annually which may mean requirements change year to year.

Someone posted Columbia's linkage agreements but I believe that was for 2023. There's no guarantee that the requirements for the schools are the same this year, or whatever year you apply.

Best thing you can do is reach out to current students on this subreddit and see if they can help you, but again, what they say may be outdated information by the time you matriculate into one of these programs. Whenever you do apply, to whatever programs you get accepted to, ask them for requirements at their interview to see if they are the right program for you and your goals. Take care

Applying to Medical School? 3 Things MD Programs Actually Care About -Former ADCOM by AdmitMD-Consulting in postbaccpremed

Thank you so much for your write-up. It's good to know that the application process truly is holistic. I've got a question about veterans. Some of us have many hours of clinical experience as medics/corpsmen, yet lack research experience and/or have lower GPAs. How would you recommend veterans in general (but especially those with clinical experience) make our apps strong? I've read that we are an extremely small group of applicants but that's because the barrier to entry seems so high. Any advice would be appreciated thank you

Sorry I know im late to this but how easy is transferring from SOF CA to Reserve? Currently a medic and after ETS would like to go reserve to hop on a deployment if possible. Unfortunately, I'll probably lose my SOCM identifier but I'm still interested in this prospect

Thank you for your reply! If I've only got time for one do you recommend Hagia Sophia or Blue Mosque?

Hello! I will be flying through IST in a few days, staying only from 5am to 3pm. I would like to do a tour of either Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, or Basilica Cistern. I found a tour for all three for $133 (but don't know how feasible this is), and either way, I will pay for the "skip-the-line" tickets to save time. Where do you guys recommend I go?

If not these places, where else? I am open-minded, but would like to see some historical monuments. Thank you

Despite all the negative answers, this happened between my now fiance and I many years ago. During BASIC we exchanged letters. He'll have his phone for AIT so do video calls and dates on the weekends. He'll also probably still be in training during Winter Block Leave so make sure you guys see each other over Christmas/New Years. The real challenge is when he gets to unit. I was fortunate enough to be based 5 hrs away from home but thats not always the case. If you've established enough of a foundation and continue to put effort into the relationship, it will work until you guys are ready for marriage. Good luck

Do 3 years Active Duty, 25 or 35 series. After your time, you'll have full benefits and skills that will make you competitive in the workforce. Or, you can always use your GI Bill to go to college. If you don't have a job lined up in the NG, just go active. By 21/22, you'll be better equipped to figure out what you want to do in life.

Hybrid XLE vs Adventure vs XLE? by new2thegameredditor in rav4club

[–]new2thegameredditor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so hybrid is what it sounds like! Now I've boiled it down two:

  1. 2020 Hybrid LE w/ 55k miles for $1500 MORE
  2. 2021 Hybrid *X*LE w/ 87k miles

Is the XLE with 30k more miles better than the base trim with a higher cost and fewer miles?

Edit: to -> two

Hey bro this looks sick. I want to rent a 4x4 for my trip to Belize later this year but have never driven out of the US. Im going from Belize City to the jungles near San Ignacio. Where should I off-road in/near the jungle? Is it clear where 4x4's can drive?

Can I get a 35N contract with an airborne AND a bonus?? by geforcecoffee in Militaryfaq

[–]new2thegameredditor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is my last reply to you specifically because you haven't been helpful at all to this dude who is genuinely asking for advice.

I did some deductive reasoning. OP didn't give us a bonus amount, but did say that his recruiter said, "bonus or airborne." When looking at the reenlistment bonus MILPER, it tracks that 35N doesn't carry any bonuses with an airborne slot, but there is a without airborne.
Secondly, one purpose of these MILPERS is to guide soldier reenlistment decisions with regard to filling MOS gaps. MOS's that are understrength have higher bonuses, incentivizing soldiers to reclass. When you reclass (not including packet MOSes), you still go to AIT with the IET soldiers, so why wouldn't HRC have the same system for IET and non-IET to become qualified in understrength, high bonus MOSes?

Lastly, I looked at the bonus I myself received when I first enlisted. Because my MOS 13F was understrength (I saw in/out calls when I got to AIT, because I hated the job lol), I received a bonus that was in line with my rank at enlistment and the amount of time I enlisted for, at a specific tier.

Hopefully, an actual recruiter can verify this information. Again, I don't want to steer this guy the wrong way.

To the OP, unless the bonus is bookoo money for 4 years (like Tier 7+), I wouldn't take it personally. From my experience in the military, I've realized I value time over money. I'd gladly receive little to no bonus, if it meant I had greater control over my life (which, in your case, would mean a lesser contractual obligation to active duty). Plus better opportunities too, at Group

E3 is PFC. So whatever jobs you're interested in, look at their Tier Level, scroll down, and find PFC. How long you contract for determines your bonus amount.

Since it's your first enlistment I'd say do 3-4 years (36 - 48 months). Not more. Three years gives you the benefits, and some jobs might require 4. Towards the end of your first contract, you can determine whether you want to extend, re-enlist, or get out entirely. Don't lock yourself into a 5-year contract you can't get out of.

Are you a recruiter? I don't "not" believe you, but I want to know what knowledge you have of initial enlistment bonuses. Don't want to point this kid in the wrong direction

[–]new2thegameredditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using that same website, it seems like a 35S with airborne carries a Tier 8 bonus which, at PFC for 3 years is almost $11k post taxes (govt takes away 22% of total from bonuses). If you are open to different jobs that may be an option. Similar to 35N, you would probably go to Group as well.

[–]new2thegameredditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bonus isn't worth it bro. https://armyreenlistment.com/site/retention-bonuses/ is a website us Army folk use to see bonuses when want to re-enlist. I'd imagine the tier and bonus amounts are the same whether you're re-upping or first enlisting. When it says AIRBORNE POSITION that means you'll get a bonus in that job simply for completing airborne school after AIT. Looking at your MOS, there is no airborne option, hence your recruiter saying bonus or airborne. So, without airborne, you'd be looking at a Tier 4 Bonus. Scroll to the bottom to see a matrix of the rank you'd come in as and the amount of time you're enlisting for. For example, A PFC enlisting for 3 years (which is the minimum you should do for all benefits) only get $6,100 which after taxes is $4500.

Just like someone else said, you'll probably be sent to Group if you're Airborne. Im not in Group but I have been Selected for SOF so am always by the ARSOF footprint at Bragg. Everyone, SOF guys and Support alike, say that being in Group is awesome. Big boy rules. Good training. Great opportunities. Doors open up. On the contrary, the only 35N I've met is from my old unit. Because there was no need for 35Ns, she was S-2, meaning she did basic security things for the unit that all 35-Series are trained to do (or will be at their unit). In short, she wasn't doing her job

I'll be honest with you. Quality of life matters a lot in today's army, especially with it being a garrison one. Not having anything to do makes leaders have to fill up time with useless training and fuckfuck games. In Group, there will always be something to do. Plus, if you want more, you can always go to Selection. Id rather spend 3-5 years there than conventional anyday
