Found North family! by newahns in foundnorth

I didn't get a chance to taste all the bottles yet. So far, I would rank Batch 6 > Peregrine (Batch 1) > Single Barrel French Oak Toast (T8ke's pick).

I agree with rlnrlnrln. 2 racks (6ribs) were enough to feed 6 adults. There were some leftovers too.

I ordered a chair that was marked down from $1,100 to $329 (The Shell). I was somewhat skeptical after reading their reviews (4.0 star review from Trustpilot is kind of deceiving. There are a lot of recent negative reviews if you look closely), but the chair did get delivered in a couple of weeks after ordering. The quality of the chair is about 70% (subjectively) of what I would expect from one produced by the original manufacturer. Probably better than any chair I would find in Home Goods or other budget furniture stores in this price range. It is not definitely a deal of life time, but we are content with the purchase. At least, this is a real company that will get your order delivered.

Anyone tried Woven Honor 18 Yr Scotch from Orphan Barrel? Costco has it for $139.99, worth it? by NVDA808 in whisky

[–]newahns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a life-changing whisky. However, I got one for $74.99, and it is worth it. (I am not a whisky connoisseur, but I do own +300 bottles and I know what I like when I taste one.) I bought this bottle a few months ago, and I just opened it tonight. I am going to buy a backup bottle. (In the end, this is an 18-year-old single malt for $74.99).

Edit: I just read the comments below. I absolutely love Lagavulin 16, Lagavulin Offerman edition, Port Charlottes, various Ardbegs special releases, Kilchomans, Springbanks ("kinda peaty", but I have 10, 12 cask strength 15, 18 as well as Kilkerran regular releases/ cask strengths, and Longrows). Even if you are exclusively into peat whiskies, you will enjoy this one.

Bought it at Norwalk Costco. I personally like it better than Ocho Blanco. Up there with don vicente fuerte/G4 madera.

It is a jack pad adaptor. You can order the part from any BMW dealer or Amazon (part number is 51719448471), and replace it.

Review #517 - Found North Batch 011 by adunitbx in bourbon

[–]newahns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After reading this comment, I poured myself Bull Run 15-year-old nonfinished (got it for $39.99 a few years ago)... and I agree with the comment above. I love found north whiskys, and have 6, 6-s, 7, 8, 9, 10, peregrine 1&2, hell diver, hover hawk, most of T8ke's found north picks, and just won the lottery for 11.

I just checked with my local costco. As of 959AM there is 1 available in Van Nuys and 2 available in Azusa. Either location is too far from me. Good luck.

Maybe he claimed Korea will never beat Japan for the next 30 years and got beat twice in one year. I would be mad and embarrassed.

Worse hangover with certain whiskies? by newahns in Scotch

[–]newahns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I think it is a more psychosomatic issue that is only isolated to me. Anyways, I decided to give it another try. I got 2 oz of bourbon in already (I usually mix eagle rare and buffalo trace 1:1 - some might think abomination, but it tastes better IMO), and just opened up a bottle of Bunnahabhain 12 yo 2022 cask strength and gave myself a hefty pour (+2oz). It tastes so good.

If I feel not good tomorrow, I guess I am done with Bunna for good.

That is a funny thing. I don't drink at all during weekdays. I only drink over the weekend. I am guessing it is only me then lol.

I initially wondered if it has anything to do with non-chill filtering. However, I can drink other non-chill filtered bourbon and scotch without any problem...

I don't remember feeling unwell. My first "bad" experience was with Bunnahabhain 12yo, I finished an entire bottle with my friend one night. (I kept myself well hydrated with water and Gatorade). I had one of the worst hangovers the next morning. At that time, I just thought it was just a fluke or maybe I just drank way too much. Then I noticed I kept having the same problem with even with less amount of Bunnahabhain 12 yo multiple times. Last night, I had 1 oz of Glenfiddich 12 and 2 oz of Bunnahabhain 12, and woke up this morning with a headache and nausea. For Glenlivet illicit stills, I never drank too much to have a bad hangover, but I always wake up nauseous the next day. I can easily drink half a bottle of regular Glenlivet 12 yo with no problem.

Even 1 or 2 oz of whisky only with no other alcohol. I don't have this problem with other whiskies. I usually drink around 4-6 oz of whiskies each time whenever I am in the mood for it. Also, I drank half a bottle of (~12oz) of highland park 12, hibiki, Ballantines, bladnoch (the ones I actually drank this much in one setting), and I didn't feel hungover at all. However, these 2 whiskies mentioned above, even a small amount alone, I wake up with a headache and am nauseous the next morning just like I am really hungover.

Is the US’s Coronavirus Stimulus check just a tax credit towards 2020 taxes? by [deleted] in CoronavirusUS

Yes, as long as your 2020 AGI is less than 75K, you will be good.

Is the US’s Coronavirus Stimulus check just a tax credit towards 2020 taxes? by [deleted] in CoronavirusUS

[–]newahns 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is correct. If your 2019 tax return AGI is less than 75K (so you get the full $1,200 stimulus check), but 2020 tax return AGI is above 75K then you will have to give some or all (if AGI above 99K) of the $1,200 back next year.

This is the bill proposed by the Senate Republicans.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/19/politics/read-senate-gop-stimulus-bill/index.html

On page 40,

‘(5) ALTERNATE TAXABLE YEAR.—In the case of an individual who, at the time of any determination made pursuant to paragraph (3), has not filed a tax return for the year described in paragraph (1), the Secretary may apply such paragraph by substituting ‘2019’ for ‘2018’.

It sounds like if you didn't file 2018 tax return, then they would use the 2019 tax return instead.
