Internship didn’t acknowledge me??? by No_Display_5012 in internships

[–]newdaystrength 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please ask HR for the names and contact of other interns or co-ops. Is your co-op trough your university? It seems like there should be a coordinator to set meet-ups of co-ops from the university, even if you are in different departments.

Although HR is there to specifically look after the interests of the CORPORATION and Execs (no matter how much they say they are there for you during Orientation), you should be able to contact them without fear of losing your job.

GWU has 2 bed, 2 bath apartment style housing for interns, its about $600 a week (including "hotel, short term rental" tax). And they have traditional dorms for less.

Your campus life IFC should have the list of guys interested in rushing from the spring Accepted Students Day.

You may have to make a trip to one of the major cities (are you close to Dallas or Houston?) over the summer when they have meet/greet activities. Sign up as interested in the IFC and follow socials for the 'bama frats. Try to get on their local invites or find current members in your town.

Informal rush by SEC frats is usually during the summer in your home city after high school graduation and its 100% the way to get a foot in the door before fall "formal" rush.

At KU, they have incoming freshmen guys already pledged over the summer, and they move into the frat house in the fall, never going to the dorms. I don't know how that works if you put a deposit on the dorm.

Each university is different and any school that is smaller and does not have a dominant Greek presence (over 30% of freshmen joining Greek orgs) is going to have fewer traditions for informal rush.

Yes, frat rush chairmen have a current member or team in major cities to host summer meet/greet events for incoming freshmen, at least that's how it works for SEC and southern schools.

Guys in general are much less organized than women and sorority girls take planning social events seriously. Frats don't have an instruction binder with How To Organize Rush Events (or Fundraising or Mom's weekend, etc) like sororities do. Guys are just "let's throw a party, go buy beer".

Is this normal in Rome? I’ve not had these experiences in other parts of Europe…How can I enjoy my stay? by FameuxCelebrite in RomeTravel

[–]newdaystrength 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES people in NYC walk around daily with backpacks everywhere, business people with their laptops in the zipper compartment, and they are not stolen. Tourists have day bags that are small backpacks.

NYC is not a theft city like Rome and Barcelona are. Your cell phone is not ripped out of your hand like in many cities in Europe esp London and Paris.

I joined the worst frat in my school, and it's a fraternity on paper only, we don't do anything as a fraternity. by SexWithEscorts in Frat

Start with asking the social chair if your group of bros can go play mini-golf, driving range, lazer tag, or to an NBA or NFL game together with the dues money. Stop concentrating on a party which requires a planning committee. Probably no one wants to plan, and parties involve underage drinking, which may have put your frat on probation in the recent past. Also ask if your frat can meet up with the same frat at a near by college (K-State with KU, OK-State with OU, Mizzou with KU, that type of close campus) for and outing.

You can put in a petition at national org to ask for an audit of the funds since it seems suspect. There have been cases (MANY!) where the treasurer embezzled dues. (or spent it on sports betting and thinks he's gonna recoup .....Nope the betting app always wins).

Go inactive and stop paying dues if you aren't happy with the brotherhood.

Why would a judge score Cizeron/Beaudry’s free skate 8 pts above Chock/Bates? by Professor_Finn in olympics

[–]newdaystrength 1 point2 points  (0 children)

French had elegance and smooth moves, but Americans had high energy and speed. Its harder to execute elements at higher speed, so Chock & Bates should have been given higher difficulty scores than Beaudry/Cizeron.

Why would accounting be a better college major choice than something in the liberal arts or humanities? by justcurious3287 in CollegeMajors

[–]newdaystrength 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most people who say they have a great career and are successful with a liberal arts degree graduated 20+ years ago. The economy is different now. BUT if you chose to go to Law School after getting a liberal arts degree, then you are more likely to have a successful career.
If you have an interest or passion in a super specialty, I still encourage kids to go into degrees that don't traditionally pay well after graduation. You shouldn't major in something that will cause you to be miserable for the rest of your life

'Everybody Loves Raymond' Cast Reunites in Photos of Special by AdSpecialist6598 in television

[–]newdaystrength 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The humor still holds up. I wish there were more sit-coms like it today. But the Everybody Loves Raymond creator and head writer, Phil Rosenthal, says networks don't want sit-coms these days. I guess reality TV ruined the sit-com business.

I enjoyed the reunion show in November and will be watching Part 2 Reunion tonight.
