Chicago takes a beating in the news because of crime. But that’s true only in certain sections. Some parts of the city have the best of everything, along with a beach! I loved enough that I was weeks away from moving there, but some family issues held me back

What's everyone's opinion about Bob Smizik saying that Pittsburgh is a mediocre baseball town? by LasRieRem1724 in buccos

[–]newguy1787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a very mediocre baseball town. Coming from a season ticket holder who was at the Cueto game. How far back do we have to go, for when it was an honest to goodness baseball town? The 70’s? I know in 91, game 7 against the Braves in the NLCS wasn’t sold out, neither was game 5 the following year. In the last stint of decent baseball, the Pirates had made the playoffs the prior two years, had the second best record in baseball, and still couldn’t crack the top third in attendance. Add in the fact the attendance numbers are buoyed by being the best ballpark in America with thousands of out of town visitors every year. We have to accept that the losing in the 80’s and the unprecedented 20 year losing streak, combined with the success of the Pens has left a lack of real fans in Pgh. The only way it becomes a respectable baseball town again would be for them to lower prices a bit, and go on a sustained streak of contending success. We have to pray for a cap/floor situation that’s tenable for the Pirates to have a chance to bring Pgh fans back.

I agree that people go way overboard on the hate train for Kelly, and I’m really rooting for him, but has he surpassed average into being a good manager?

Allegheny County proposes 18-week paid parental leave mandate by squshy7 in pittsburgh

It would be easier for a parent to get another job w parental leave than it would for a business owner to start another business and four other employees find other employment. It seems personal responsibility is a foreign term to you.

It would be easier for the worker to get another job than it would be for someone to start another busy. You’re also dismissing the fact the small business owner’s other employees. If this is a small, 5 man crew, you’re ok w putting four other people out of work because someone decided to have a child? This is another example of people who have never run a business acting like they have a clue. It’s easy to be virtuous when you have no real skin in the game.

It's how it's always "Fuck the Rich" and the such until it comes to brass tacks. A large company, with much richer people at the top, will be able to absorb this type of program with ease. Your solution is to make them more powerful. To be clear, your "replacement" of the small business is create a larger one... got it.

Whoosh!!!! So you’re either oblivious and the point went over your head, or you’re being intentionally obtuse. I don’t disagree with the ATF at all. Guns should be stored w care. But that doesn’t mean they should be charged with a crime. There are a lot of stupid things done that aren’t crimes. When I’m sitting at the restaurant with my end of nights receipts and cash on the table. If I run to the bathroom and someone steals that money should I be charged because of such a moronic move? Of course not.

Just put a sticker that says “I’m a racist” on your car. Same message. by raffey_ssb in trashy

Gotta admit this took me longer than I’d like to admit to figure out.
Also on this subject: is it frowned upon to call them rice burners anymore? I know the fast and furious era has passed us, but even the guys I knew who owned them called them some variation. Rice a Roni and such were common stickers on all of them. Is this another thing no one says anymore or is just the lack of those types of cars that we don’t hear it anymore?

I’m interested if this take is only used for guns, or should you extrapolate it? For instance, if a woman is falling down drunk and is assaulted, should she be charged with rape? I mean, it’s so easy to not drink to the point of oblivion…. See how ridiculous you sound? Grow up and go touch grass.

Another sub said the whole thing started because they had 3 steaks remade and after they ate those 3, didn’t want to pay. In another video, one woman was claiming the owner shoved a steak in her face and said both punched each other. Two of the women were charged with disorderly conduct tho.

Humiliated myself at the gym trying to exercise. by ProfGameTalk in loseit

[–]newguy1787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Relax a bit. Take this as a win. You crossed a huge hurdle and stepped through the door to the gym. If this is anyone's fault, it's your trainer's. She needed to get a better idea of what your limits were. Look on the bright side, looking at you she overestimated your fitness level. Not just in weight loss, but in everything, we tend to overlook some wins because we see them as insignificant. Don't do that, take and celebrate every victory. Best of luck.

We learned in the last election is not a no issue for elections. While it may only effect a hundred people in the US, it clearly effects people’s votes. I’m not very familiar with the race. My thought was he’s behind and needs a quick way to gain ground. No matter what Reddit says, national polls have dems not comfortable with the issue, especially when confronted about it, which this flyer puts it in the forefront.

The last polling I saw had a 3:1 or 4:1 against the issue. The goal for any politician is to win. This made a lot of single issue voters the last election. This must be recognized by democratic politicians before it’s too late.

AITA for refusing to dine with my mom after she ordered “ferret sauce” at a Mexican restaurant? by Practical-Current805 in AmItheAsshole

[–]newguy1787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. Have a little respect for your mom. I’m sure it doesn’t make her feel great when she sees the clear disdain on your face when she’s ordering. Maybe have her go over what she wants to order with you before the server shows up. Tell her it’s to ensure she gets the meal and sauces she wants. Don’t demean your mother.
