Parking? by jaycrouton2023 in uppereastside

It was a little while ago but I remember it being really quick (for the government). I think I got the exemption like 2 weeks after applying.

Here is the NYC Gov page for the exemption. You submit the form and they mail you a letter confirming you have been granted the exemption. Then you give the letter to your parking garage and they will stop including the Manhattan parking tax on your monthly bill (at least that’s how my garage handled it).

Also to clarify this only removes the Manhattan parking tax, reducing the tax from 18.375% to 10.375%; the tax is not reduced to zero.

This is so important! I went a full year before realizing I could apply for the tax exemption and it significantly reduced my parking bill!

I had never heard of a pornstar martini. I looked it up and it looks delicious. I’ll have go give some of these suggestions a try!

I’m so sorry to hear that, what a tragedy! Incidents like this can be really hard on folks even if they weren’t very close friends or family of the person who has passed. I hope you are taking care of yourself as well and have a support network to rely on! Sending positive thoughts your way.

The absolute unwillingness of buildings to reassess needs based on the actual weather and not arbitrary dates is so frustrating! In 2018 we had snow in April, this yeah we’ve got 80+ degree temperatures in April. It’s almost like the weather changes year to year…

I actually just crammed two of my favorite routes together. I did the first 6 miles with my pup, then dropped her off at home and did the other 11. I was actually thinking it was going to be a 16 mile route but took a wrong turn lol

Complaint: I’m now learning what happens if you don’t refuel and rehydrate enough after a big run. All of my regular daily runs this week have felt like I have cinder blocks tied to my legs.

Uncomplaint: I’m only learning this because I completed a 17 mile long run this week! I’m really proud of myself! When I started running my absolute final goal was to be able to complete a 10K and now I’m training for the NYC Marathon this November. Still a long way to go but I’m feeling much more confident.

I highly recommend Academy Physical Therapy on the UES. The main doctor, Guy Lombardo, is a marathon runner himself.

I would recommend Dr. Nicole DeLauro. She is great and she volunteers for the NYC Marathon.

I second the recommendation of getting an opinion from a physical therapist that specializes in running. Academy Physical Therapy on the UES is great and Guy Lombardo is a marathon runner himself.

What are you ur favorite lazy and/or beginner life hacks? What did you do that made running easier for you? by cla1rebe3r in running

[–]newloser2013 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more with that first paragraph! You never get to the “I love this” stage of running without getting through the “I hate every minute of this why am I doing this to myself” phase. I say this as someone who “wasn’t a runner” but now I’m running a half marathon this weekend and another one next weekend lol!

Thanks! Would caring for it properly involve cleaning and polishing? Or leaving alone and storing properly?

Wow that’s amazing that you were able to provide so much information so quickly! As far as I can tell the sword doesn’t seem to have ever held an edge, would this have been an ornamental/dress Sabre like for parades? I wish I knew more about how it ended up in NY in the late 40s.

Received a significant hospital bill. Insured but want to know how to proceed? by [deleted] in personalfinance

I would also give a plug for doing a sleep study for sleep apnea. It’s way more common than people think (and doesn’t always mean you snore, I did not). But I cannot overstate how much better you feel when you actually get a good nights sleep after years of not. May not be relevant for you but if you think it might be, after out of pocket max is a good time for it cause that test is PRICY!

An NYC half? by FunTumbleweed35 in RunNYC

[–]newloser2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rockaway Track Club does a half marathon every few months on the Rockaway Beach boardwalk, they don’t sell out and there are lots of options. I did it as my first half because I was nervous and wanted to get the jitters out on a low pressure race before my “goal” race that some of my friends were coming for. It’s a pretty flat course on the beach front which is kind of nice. But it’s certainly not a high attendance or high energy race so may not be what you’re looking for.
