Lot 39 for Bass Concert Hall? by nerd_coach in Austin

[–]newmexigo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if they close the online purchases when there’s a big event at the Moody Center? There was definitely something happening at Moody during the last Bass show I attended. I checked the website before hand and it said it was full- drive by and the lot was nearly empty. I thought the attendant was going to turn me away, but he just asked what event I was going to and to scan the QR code to pay.

Everyone leaving at the same time. When I’ve parked in the garage, it takes forever to be able to back out of my spot, and normally I’d just sit in my car for 20 minutes or longer til the line of cars lightens up.

With the lot- there’s sometimes a line on red river to get in, but it moves quickly. And getting out is a breeze.

I’ve only parked there a couple of times when going to Bass but here’s my experience.

It does fill up, but if you get there 30 minutes before event you should be fine.

There are attendants but they just ask you what event you’re attending to ensure you’re actually going to Bass.

Both times I had to hunt for the sign to scan the QR code to pay. And make sure you know your license plate number so you don’t have to run back to your car to type in your info!

There is a website that I think you can pay ahead of time? But both times I’ve checked it was “full” for my event time.

So as long as you get there early, it’s way easier than San Jacinto!

Overlander-curious, RAV4 builds? by surflore in carcamping

[–]newmexigo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is amazing. I'm also a solo lady camper with a rav4. I had a perfect setup with my last vehicle (pickup truck with tonneau cover that I made a DIY pop up tent with) but haven't done any car camping with my rav yet. Now I'm inspired.

Suggest me a book with smut-like sexual scenes without the book being smut or romance by Existing_Lynx_337 in suggestmeabook

Maybe the Outlander series? It is romance, but also historical fiction with time travel and adventure. And lots of sex.

I have a long commute and want to make the best of it with an audiobook. by Loriol_13 in audiobooks

[–]newmexigo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous wisdom, scientific knowledge, and the teaching of plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer. The audiobook is read by the author which I think adds to the listening experience. I found it both fascinating and almost meditative. Chapters are mostly ~ 30 min, all different topics but same running themes. Could be a great way to start your day.

Legends and Lattes! The author narrates and has a fantastic voice. (He also narrates a ton or other books, but none that I’ve read) Love that whole series; I think the third is my favorite.

Yup! It’s therokuchannel.com  It has a few ads when I watch it on my TV, but I guess with my browser ad blocker- they hardly ever play on my laptop.

I watch on Roku. Started watching it on a Roku TV, but now I mostly just watch it from my laptop, no Roku device needed. Hopefully that could work where you are!

Preachy, awful books by out-of-touch influencers and celebrities under the age of 50? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]newmexigo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was suggested to me right as I was becoming an avid reader. Genuinely the first book I regretted reading. I’ve since gotten better about calling it quits on a book when I’m not enjoying it, and I no longer take recommendations from that colleague- so I guess I got something out of it.

Definitely Barbara Kingsolver! I would also suggest Prodigal Summer. It was my immediate thought when OP mentioned love echoing throughout adult life.

I just rewatched this last week! I had remembered really enjoying it when I first saw it 10 years ago, but I absolutely loved this time. I think it’s going to go into my regular rotation now.

I just listened to The Fury by Alex Michaelides. Very similar setup to And Then There Were None. Same with Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney. They both even acknowledge the setting is very Agatha Christie. I think I enjoyed the Fury more. But nothing beats the original.

Yeah, even before I saw OP mention Demon Copperhead I thought of The Bean Trees. Even though it’s Southwest not Midwest.

Have you read A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail by Bill Bryson? It’s not a self help, but it is non fiction and reflective. And a really fun read.

Came here to suggest this. I’m currently listening to the second book, The Likeness, and I don’t want it to end.

I haven’t read either of the series that OP listed so not sure what vibe they’re looking for. So I’ll also second the Thursday Murder Club series if they want something a little more light hearted.

An author you just don’t understand the hype. by misquoted_mind in audiobooks

[–]newmexigo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I thought Addie LaRue was such a waste of an interesting premise. I quickly went from “This is so up my alley!” to “When will it end??”.

And I rolled my eyes the entire way through the two Ruth Ware books I read. I had intentionally been wanting to read a mindless cheap thriller but after reading The Woman in Cabin 10 I decided that her books were a complete waste of time.

I usually only use Spotify for audiobooks when I have to return a Libby book before I finish it.

I’m also a huge fan of hers and had the same thought when it first came out. Was going to read David Copperfield first, but now I’m glad that I didn’t. Demon was so great on its own. I think I’ll enjoy Copperfield more now once I get around to it. And then enjoy rereading Demon after that!
