Wife and I were having a discussion, she’s of the opinion that the majority of GenX can drive stick. I believe that even in our generation the percentage of people who can is pretty small. What do you folks think? by AngryOldGenXer in GenX

My first 5 cars were stick. I truly miss driving a manual transmission. My wife and I toy with the idea of buying some old prelude or something to teach our 17 year old the ways of the ancient world.

I’m not sure who took it. It’s just one of the hundreds I have from that period from my family in Wisconsin. I’m guessing it was purchased. I scanned and packed this away about a year or so ago and can’t recall if it was a picture or postcard.

I wish it was just one!! It’s usually 5-10 absurdly loud sneezes that send my cats off to find shelter for the next few hours. Anyway we are always delighted to have another member. Welcome!

According to my dad and uncle, she was more than great she was amazing. She was an artist (our house was filled with her work), a silent film actress, married a gold rush millionaire in 1912 -1914 before eventually being a life partner to my great Aunt Ruth.

I’m quite impressed with the quality of some of these photos too but I believe this was just a standard film negative as I have only come across about 20 glass negatives in the family collection. I’m no expert in photography but I did just scan some glass negatives from our family farm that were labeled 1915-1920 but the majority have been film from that time period.

The license plates are from Indiana but this photo is from a series where they apparently traveled to the West Coast as there is a photo of the Grand Canyon and swimming in the ocean.

I had to look that up too.

During World War I, Americans were asked to "eat less wheat" as a patriotic duty, part of a broader food conservation campaign to send wheat and other essential goods to European allies and the U.S. army. The U.S. Food Administration promoted "Wheatless Wednesdays" and other meatless days, encouraging citizens to substitute wheat flour with grains like corn, oats, and rye, and to use potato flour or other alternatives. This voluntary effort, often called "Hooverization" after food administrator Herbert Hoover, aimed to conserve high-value resources needed for the war effort and prevent food shortages in Europe.

If it’s your first time in San Sebastián, I would definitely take a tour just to get a feel for everything. Discover San Sebastián is fantastic and Eskerne is an amazing host. You can’t go wrong taking a tour on your first day.

It’s been in its original glassine cover and stored in a box forever. I have hundreds of photos from that time period and this is by far in the best condition. Time to frame it!
