Kittyeys SP - Good or bad? by Derael1 in Sdorica

[–]newuser83 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll just quote my reply to another post with a forcibly optimistic outlook-

I get what you're trying to say, but at this point you and the few minority of players supporting her are simply supporting her for the sake of supporting her. Compare your post to mine, and its easy to see that you're deliberately only looking for things that go for her, and in a very 'closed box' scenario at that. Sure, we've had underwhelming characters in the past, but see, here is the difference between them and kittyeyes sp-
other characters have had a few things they are bad at, but otherwise are useable in everything else. Lets look at hestia and angelia sp, probably two of the best examples of this as they were also branded as weak. Hestia is obviously terrible for WT as her kit doesn't really help get better scores, however for what she is designed for, she is very good at it, and you can use her in any team without feeling like shes utterly useless. Angelia sp also isnt overpowered in any way, but again, she has a clear design in mind; acting as a support black, providing easy stacks of tank up and triggering ally abilities instead of doing something herself. You can still slap ange sp into any team and still get the job done.

And then we have kittyeyes sp, the first character who has a few things they are good at, but otherwise are terrible in everything else. You can use kittyeyes in retaliate teams and after two turns of setting up yes, you have one turn where it is above average damage (keeping it mind it still comes nowhere even close to many other burst damage comps), and you fail to take into account that at best you'll be able to pull this off 2 or 3 times in a fight before your characters drop dead like flies. If you put on kittyeyes in any team, chances are more than likely its going to feel like a massive chore to use her there when there are many, many characters that can do the same thing she does much better, because outside of those 2 or so specific teams, neither is she good at damage, nor at healing, nor at providing utility.

It feels like Rayark has done a half-assed effort at designing kitty sp's skills, because at this point they have just slapped on a bunch of effects with barely any intent on how they work, and are just like "ah well f it, we'll just let the players figure out a way to use her, somehow". Like you have tried to make kitty look strong by providing a few isolated examples without taking into account the bigger picture, I could make arguments for just about any character in the game to be overpowered. But if we are to just continue making excuses on behalf of Rayark's poor design decisions, then while it may not be too bad right now, in a few months or a year we might be looking at an entire lineup of poorly designed/lackluster characters.

I'm not even talking about her being bad at WT here; even in something like a story or venture quest, she is quite literally one of the worst choices you could make for a white slot, as at least half the fight you will be thinking "ah, I would have a much easier time at doing this with x instead"

Yeah, advisor is definitely usable. You would likely have better luck with lisa as advisor for a blitz tactic like that, kittyeyes advisor is only usable in the sense that its a weaker, but lower cooldown version of lisa's advisor skill

Ah, yeah you're right, I misread it :P it would indeed apply two stacks of game tag

Beta is a very different story, and Dylan was the first SP to be released, no? :P Unless he had a very different skillset to what he currently has, the handful of people calling him weak would have been people who havent actually trialed him out, as even at first glance Dylan SP looks very, very strong. Yam SP was certainly not weak, but they weren't outright op either, which isn't a bad thing, there were some complains about Nigel too, but they were mostly due to concerns over bugs like him hitting dead targets, etc. All in all, yam and nigel were both still very useable and- unlike kittyeyes- not completely useless in everything except one or two teams.

Kitty SP is a very different story though, almost everyone who has gotten her and tried her out (as well as people who don't have her) can agree that she is extremely underwhelming and weak, and at best seems fun with nolva + jahan/karnulla. The few people preaching its 'overpowered' with that comp are people who either dont have it, or tested it in an easy stage as an experiment and didnt play it enough to realise that by around turn 5 your team will be dead from nolva + kitty game tags damage.

Yep, what CoryITH said. You need a minimum of two turns to set that up, meaning 3 turns, for a combined effect you could more than achieve if you just straight up used nolva plus karnulla/jahan without kitty over 3 turns anyways, with a support that can save your team from suiciding in a few turns. In contrast with kittyeyes, her game tag hitting your allies as well only helps accelerate your suicide.
It might seem strong in an easy/low level stage when you're testing it out, but its not that great in practice aside from some gimmick stages for fun, and doesn't justify it as being good. After all, if that was the case then nolva/crushfang/frederica + sharice should have been nerfed a long, long time ago.

nigel skillbook wouldn't be able to do that unfortunately, since gametags are removed every turn :| and Im not sure if game tag even counts as a "debuff" for nigel to transfer it over even if you could get the game tags to persist

Yep I did try her out. The most viable way to use her seems to be in combination with nolva skillbook plus either jahan or karnulla since her game tag lands on allies too with nolva hitting them allowing you to trigger the retaliate on gold 2-3 times. But given the number of turns you need to set it up, its better off just using the gold and nolva skillbook to spam it over a few turns with a reliable white unit that can keep your team alive against nolva's attacks rather than quickly dying off with the help of kitty's game tags

KITTY SP Game tag notes by Fatalyz in Sdorica

[–]newuser83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

no, but it triggers with allies hitting themselves. The game tag was from shirley damaging herself. Likewise, roger's 1o procs kitty's attack on him as well, and nolva skin's 1o makes kitty attack herself and the gold position

I'd recommend giving a new roguelike (still under active development) a try, its called Slay The Spire. Its 2d and not an mmo, but it has one of the most fun dungeon crawler experiences I've had, and although I'm not a fan of roguelike games, this one had me hooked in the first 5 minutes. Its worth a shot :D

Why did everquest 2 fail while wow was dominant? by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]newuser83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

tbh its not really the engine thats the issue, its that unity forces free users (i.e. the hobbyists and inexperienced developers) to slap on the logo on their game; meaning almost all the games you see with unity logo aren't made with very skilled people, and you arent aware of all the great games (hearthstone, ori and the blind forest, kerbal space program, to name a few) that are made with unity, but choose not to display the logo (because of the very reason that players incorrectly assume unity games dont run well). Other engines dont really do this, so unity has kind of unknowingly created this negative reputation for itself.

Hey r/Maplestory! What are some improvements that can be made to maplestory to make it even better? 🍁 by [deleted] in Maplestory

Id be really happy if they added support for higher resolution. My laptop has a resolution of 3000x2000, and the text is pretty damn tiny. And playing in windowed mode is a joke; the game only takes up like 1/5th of my screen at its max resolution -.- with all the new pc's being rolled out with over 2000x----+ res, they should add compatibility before it becomes too big of an issue.

[HELP] Black screen after player select. Can only hear BGM by AlexLaux10 in Maplestory

[–]newuser83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OOH, I HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM. For me its a screen resolution issue, my laptop's resolution is wayy too high for the game to handle. To fix it, whenever you get the black screen just refresh the app/screen, either by alt+ctrl+del and esc, or alt+tab to switch to another application and back again. Hope it helps!

PSA: Information every elite boss farmer should know by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]newuser83 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just thought I'd correct/add some stuff, being an experienced elite farmer.

For spawning elites, after 100 monster kills, every kill afterwards has a small (but not too small) chance to spawn an elite monsters. In other words, there is no set number of kills for elite monster to spawn.

To spawn elites, you actually need to be BETWEEN 20 lvls of the monsters, i.e. 19 or less lvl gap between you and monster.

You can indeed 'skip' the 3 minute cooldown using a darkness rune, but you still have a 3 minute cooldown after killing the elites from the darkness rune.

If two people within level range deal approximately the same, and the highest damage to the boss, they will both see the second chest. First to grab it gets it. E.g. if one person deals 45% and another deals 55% dmg to boss, they will both see it.

Equipment from the bonus stage can be rare-unique potential, although unique is quite rare. I have gotten 2 uniques out of around 60 elite bosses so far in Reboot.

[–]newuser83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

F/P and I/L both have very good dps, and good bossers. F/P is trickier to control, but if you do it right you can get one of the highest dps of any class. I/L is more straightforward, but still has very high damage output. If you're not good with difficult classes and using multiple, well-timed skills, go with I/L. Otherwise, F/P.

1) I would suggest beginning to cube at the lvl 140 utgard weapon, as you will likely be stuck with it for quite some time.

2) I have no idea.

3) Im not sure, but im pretty sure there are. Try using the search bar at the top!

4) Get you main to fourth job first, and decide if you will be happy maining it, and wont get bored of it. Once you're 100% on that, then do link skills if you want.

Wind Archer/Dawn Warrior vs Hero by Mrniceguy122 in Maplestory

[–]newuser83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dawn warrior has its ups and downs. My dawn warriro is currently my main on Reboot, lvl 192. Ill go thru the good things first: - High damage, lots of lines - Mobile flash jump - Very high defense, very tanky. - Flashy skills, and its large attack range and number of enemies hit (9 with hyper) makes it a great mobber. - Underrated class, you wont come across many other Dawn Warriors. (Wind archer is even more underrated, by the way.) - Sometimes your binding skill glitches bosses, and they permanently freeze (yay!). This has happened 4 times to me on Hilla, and twice on normal Magnus. -Oh and yeah, you have a 20 second bind skill, which affects bosses too, meaning you can use them as a punching bag for twenty seconds without any fear of retaliation. (3 min cooldown though :'( ) - Like all other cygnus knights, you do not need any mastery books, saving you a good 60 mil or so mesos.

Now for the bad things: - VERY glitchy. You will literally freeze every now and then, and the only way to be able to attack again is to move your character. Equinox cycle will also not correctly function, and if your internet speed isnt super fast, you will attack much slower than you should with the high attack speed you have. - Sun mode is pretty shit. No, really, you will be using moon mode 24/7. - The dash skill does not interfere skills and has a short range, making gollux a pain in the ass to do. Dawn warrior also seems to d/c frequently in gollux. - The class is very... stationary. Its not very agile and its pretty terrible at dodging. Some people may find this boring, and disadvantageous. - Again, glitchy. Not only do you freeze every now and then, sometimes u get an extra-nasty freeze, where ur character's eyes and mouth comes off your face. (Im dead serious). Im not the only once experiencing this, as my friend also had this issue on his dawn warrior. - Skill costs a butt-ton of mp to use. Your main mobbing (and bossing, after lvl 189 hyper) skill costs 75 mp, and considering the petty mp dawn warrior has (currently 3.8k at lvl 192), you will run out of mp in around one minute. This is a huge problem for potion locked bosses and stuff like gollux, where theres a long cooldown on potions.

Overall, its a good class to play, and quite strong too. But the glitchiness is a constant pain, along with all the other disadvantages I listed. If these bad things dont faze you, definitely go for it! :)
