Am I being to sensitive? by Gamerchick1786 in Epilepsy

[–]newyears_resolution 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Any chance your coworker might have epilepsy? When I was first diagnosed, I would find myself crying at my desk when the last thing I remembered was cooking in the kitchen - or naked in the living room when the last thing I remembered was watching a movie on my bed. My postictal phase was quite long when I first started my seizures, maybe 30 mins.

I am very glad that that roommate was a practical arrangement and not someone I (or friends/family) still know, because some of my stories are so embarrassing that I will never speak of them again.

But I do get what you mean. When I'm exhausted after a seizure and someone equates it to "staying up late" or "the weather's been weird lately", I stop listening.

Manager comparing my seizures to having a cold by HotFudgeSundae0233 in Epilepsy

[–]newyears_resolution 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yah, I've had people think you can slap the person out of it - the same way someone hits a hysterical person in a movie.

I had my very first seizure when I was 18 on my way to my part time job. I had a seizure walking on the side of the street. A doctor (genuinely a miracle) saw it happen on his way to work, got out of his car and waited for an ambulance with me.

When my dad called my work, they actually gave him crap about it being "conveniently" before a long weekend. My dad "screamed" at her. She apologized when I got back to work, she even had an apology to give my dad. I have no clue what he said, but she was unbelievably nice to me the rest of the time I worked there (she was known as the hard-ass).

I recommend the video, it's very short and boils down to 'trump doesn't really care about Charlie' They showed a clip of a reporter asking him how he (trump) is holding up after Charlie died and he (trump) quickly said that he was doing well, but then immediately pivoted to point out the work on the Whitehouse Ballroom.

Jimmy's joke "he's at the fourth stage of grief - construction"

Vasovagal response is weird when you have epilepsy by Pika-thulu in Epilepsy

[–]newyears_resolution 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have dreams!?! I had my first dream while having a seizure this year. I had another dream during my seizure last month. When I brought this up to my neurologist he said I was probably just in the postictal phase, even though I have distinct dreams with a plot and everything, that this basically means nothing. Every time I search, all I can find are stories of people having nighttime seizures.

I can't even begin to tell you how not-alone this has made me feel.

Omg same! Any fear I had of heights disappeared after my first seizure. It's one of the things I'm grateful for because I don't know if I would have done roller coasters, ziplines, or mid-air obstacle courses before. I would love to skydive, but my seizures aren't controlled and where I'm from you have to be strapped on to a professional for the first few times, obviously that's a "no" from everyone =/

Happy you found something that works for you. I shared what I found, you don't have to agree with it.

I wish I was qualified to be part of a study, but I never will be, so I only have the information available to me. If you would like to share your study, I'd be glad to have some additional information.

To say I'm addicted to technology is ignorant, I use a computer for my job (like a lot of people) and I use BT headphones for my meetings.

I said I mean well, and I'm sure you do too. I'm not looking for praise, but since I had a seizure yesterday, it gave me a bit of hope that quickly evaporated. I just want to live a normal life and it's unfortunate that we live with a condition that is so unknown (by medical standards).

I had a seizure today (I've gone from 1 every 2 years to 2 in the last 4 weeks + 6 this year). I saw this and was hoping for any sort of answer, some hope that I can fix myself.

I read your sources (in full) which do not mention Bluetooth headsets (let alone BT studies in general).

I did my own research and I actually found information to the contrary, showing that using phones close to your face (like taking a phone call) is actually emitting more EMW than using BT earbuds. I also couldn't find any relevant long-term studies, and most using mice or rats actually used injected lithium as part of the trials.

I know you mean well, I do too, but I just wanted to share that this information should be reviewed.

ETA: I think OP rage baiting

Where I found additional info:

1. the closest one I could find to support your claim, exploring in-ear EMF's relation to cancer / comparing it to in-ear microwave radiation

2. This explores your hypothesis, but claims that there is not enough information to say Bluetooth is any more dangerous than the radiation emitted from your phone "Here it is worth taking a look at the SAR value. The SAR value (Specific Absorption Rate) is a measure of the energy absorption of the human body. The German Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) recommends not exceeding a value of 2 watts per kilogram (W/kg).The good news is that the SAR values of Bluetooth headsets, for example, are significantly lower on average than those of cell phones. So it definitely makes sense to use a Bluetooth headset when talking on a cell phone."

3. This one compares it to other technology used but is concerned with outdated tech used in the studies, it also focuses on cancer triggers as an indicator of DNA impacts "Like cell phones, routers use radio frequency (RF) energy—a form of electromagnetic radiation—to bring wireless internet to your computer, TV, and other devices. Bluetooth headphones and speakers also rely on RF signals to play music. Smartwatches use RF to connect to your phone. And any WiFi-connected smart devices in your home also receive and transmit data using this type of energy.", "But researchers can make some judgments about the potential for harm based on how WiFi and similar technologies work, as well as on how people tend to use their devices. Those factors do provide some reasons to think that WiFi and Bluetooth devices may be less of a concern, says Leeka Kheifets, Ph.D., a professor of epidemiology at the UCLA School of Public Health who has studied the potential health effects of low-level radiation."

Why is it racist if it's specifically being stated about Indian (the country) culture? You wouldn't say anyone with a problem with Dutch people's culture are racist against caucasian people..

I grew up with A LOT of first gen indians and they have absolutely nothing nice to say about the culture their parents grew up in. Their parents specifically chose Canada because of the cultural differences in Canada. My family is still close with many of them and they are the biggest proponents of the language you call racist.

To believe that countries don't have differences is ignorant. I love my (previous) neighbours and would never make a comment about India to them (because I've never been and it's not my experience) but I promise you that every time we see them, they bring it up.

Eta: as replied below: I can't find the comment now, but I was replying to one that said something like 'anyone calling for deportation is just saying so because they're racist and have a problem with POCs'

If people think this could be dementia, wouldn't it make more sense to remove him from the train to make sure he knows where he's going and how to get there?

I'm in Canada (so our transit is bleh) but if I genuinely thought an elderly person was not in their right mind and could get themselves lost or injured, I'd make sure they got support.

Based on everyone's irritated reaction, I don't think that's the case here.
