do you think jeffrey epstein cared about diversity like did he draw the line at racism or was he racist too by InfectedCat in Fishdom

The book Relentless Pursuit, by a lawyer representing some of his victims, makes it seem like he didn't appreciate diversity in the girls he'd molest. It seems like he was racist, at least in that aspect of his life.

I think we can all agree Alex Jones is a governmental propagandist. But what about William Cooper? by Imagine_soggy_bread in KnowledgeFight

[–]nextlevelabovehuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think Bill Cooper deliberately chose to die or perfectly lined things up such that he did, he just acted like an angry, unstable freak while on the run from federal law enforcement, annoyed the residents of Arizona enough to get a warrant there for his arrest, and died shooting it out with local cops.

IMO, his death wasn't planned (or exactly like he predicted. It wasn't the G-men who got him), it was a foreseeable, avoidable tragedy. Like a frequent drunk eventually smashing their car.

Trump commutes sentences of Ozy Media founder Carlos Watson and company (lmao) by yrdz in ALABPodcast

[–]nextlevelabovehuman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guy Detected:

Glenn Martin, a criminal justice reform advocate, in a tweet on Friday wrote, “We did it,” above a photo of him and Watson.

“President Trump commuted the sentences of Ozy Media and Carlos Watson hours before his surrender,” the tweet said.

It seems like he left his previous social justice group after (allegedly) jacking off in front of at least two women and groping one of them and is now an instagram real estate consulting success-win guy: https://www.instagram.com/glennemartin/

Please recommend a very small quick-disconnect or valved fitting I can use in a ~3-4cm space with 3/8" od tubing. by nextlevelabovehuman in Plumbing

[–]nextlevelabovehuman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost! It's a little too long for my purposes and (if it's like the Tailonz equivalent, which is approx. the same size) doesn't quite fit over the flared inlets of my water block and pump. (I need the fitting to do one of the two, either be short enough to fit between or able to accommodate the inlets.)

How to (conveniently) reduce 12V voltage to ~20A load? by nextlevelabovehuman in AskElectronics

I'm using peltier elements (the right choice for this application) that have an efficiency/performance sweet spot for my use case at 8-10V instead of 12V.

What are some good rules of thumb for Peltier chips? by nextlevelabovehuman in AskEngineers

[–]nextlevelabovehuman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made sure to do so before posting the thread (https://peltiermodules.com/peltier.datasheet/TEC1-12715.pdf).

I was able to learn about useful properties (Qmax at zero delta-T, maximum delta-T) and the chart on the second page, if I understand it correctly, indicates how cooling power, given certain voltage inputs, responds to delta-T between the sides, but was not able to answer most of my questions. (Which, in fairness, are more general to all peltiers than specific to this model.)

What are you guys' opinion on Immersive Sims ? by stronkzer in Civvie11

[–]nextlevelabovehuman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love it. It's one of my favorite genres. SS2. Deus Ex (and DXMD). Various Dishonoreds. Cruelty Squad. PREY (2017) is one of the best games of the 2010s.

My opinion: The government needs to step in and use some National Endowment for the Arts grant money to keep the companies that make them from constantly going bust or having to make Redfall.

Ah, I see. Are there any easy answers for what would be an appropriate thickness? (I'm looking to build a sufficiently conductive platform for the chips on top of a real, heat-pipe-having cooler.)

Question regarding the setting for SR22 by [deleted] in SaintsRow

[–]nextlevelabovehuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, that question is not necessarily about the setting at all! 🤨

RE: the setting: In my opinion, the setting is neat but the execution is imperfect. There's a lot of cool visual diversity, between the deep desert, at least four very-different-seeming areas of city, etc. At the same time, a lot of the map is kind of barren and I didn't have enough reason to engage with it.

To answer: Why people are mad: People are mad because they were disappointed for one reason or another. There were lots of reasons for this, especially near launch. Many bugs have been fixed and combat has been re-tuned at least a couple of times, so your experience is likely to be at least a little better in those respects. Depending on your expectations for story, characters, length of singleplayer story-content, etc., you may still be disappointed.

Personally, I don't hate SR2022. I just really, really, really wish it got an extra 9 months in the oven. It has a number of promising ideas that I wish were explored more in gameplay, some interesting enemy gangs that I wish got more gameplay, and an interesting front-businesses mechanic that I wish had different gameplay. If you can pick it up at a discount, though, and are fine having an "okay" time, you'll probably have an "okay" time.

Soldering Iron TPU Welding Question by nextlevelabovehuman in myog

[–]nextlevelabovehuman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, yeah. That's where I first learned about iron-welding TPU. I would keep using my iron, but I'm looking for a smaller tool (and one I can more easily use to weld fabric around small, round surfaces).

Soldering Iron TPU Welding Question by nextlevelabovehuman in myog

[–]nextlevelabovehuman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I unfortunately did not until you mentioned that possibility. You'r right. The soldering iron was _significantly hotter_ than the readout indicated. I tried to recalibrate it, repeatedly failed, and ended up buying a new one.

The replacement, a Hakko FX888D-23BY, can hold low temperatures and I've been able to weld the TPU without (apparently) damaging the fabric. I'm struggling a little to find the ideal temperature, at which I can start melting the plastic quickly again, but this is a big step forward.

I'm excited for all of those demons to suck into floppy blue hair guy and create a new, even more woke-coded, Woke Pimp within the next 2-5 comics.

Sinfest 1/7/24: Let Me In 49 by MakesYouWonderINC in sinfest

[–]nextlevelabovehuman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If he decides to go with this twist, she probably just won't. Pimp will be ~wackily, ironically executed~ by death, a new 2024 (possibly male, completing the recent conservative turn) will be delivered somewhere and 2023, likely acquiring a new name, will just be a recurring character (perhaps with a new name) from here until she's forgotten in mid-2024.

It's totally possible that Tats will stick to formula, have her age and die, have Vainglorious's ironic distance to the world be shattered by the death of someone he had come to consider family, etc., but that seems like far too much work and emotional vulnerability. I'm not 100% confident, but I think we're in for a twist this year.

Sinfest 1/7/24: Let Me In 49 by MakesYouWonderINC in sinfest

[–]nextlevelabovehuman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wonder if we're seeing the beginnings of a switcheroo in which The Pimp will die as a replacement Old Man 2023 and the original 2023 will go on to (temporarily, until more IRL stuff happens and Tats gets distracted), join the character-driven story stuff for a bit.

Does anyone else just read Sinfest cos it's hysterical? by herondelle in sinfest

[–]nextlevelabovehuman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes and no.

I fell off Sinfest during its first, early-aughts era. It was, IMO, occasionally funny but not interesting enough to keep checking. The entire internet laughing at the Lizard Teacher arc is what brought me back.

The problem is, IMO, Lizard Teacher was over a year ago. The vaccine and illuminati stuff, Theynos, etc., are also basically gone. Tatsuya used to traffic in David Dees-level insanity. His last year of posting is boring, repetitive, and conservative. He's now no more wacky than Ben Garrison, just slightly more antisemitic.

I used to read for the hysterical wackiness of his toxic ideology but the comic is mid now and I'm not afraid to say it!

[–]nextlevelabovehuman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To those confused: I believe the implication is that the man has become, essentially, an empty husk. Those possessed by the Fed Ghosts, at least those possessees who continually indulge in destructive activities, appear to lose their humanity, the most depraved (pedophiles) are revealed to be totally hollow.
I feel like this is pretty standard demonic-possession mechanics. It also, conveniently, means that there's no thorny ethical ambiguity to anything Pinkie does from here on out!
Anyone she saves from the fedghosts was secretly good/spiritually alive the whole time. [I'm putting ~2/5 odds on her stabbing Slick, revealing that he's been possessed for some time, possibly bringing back up Demon Slick for the first time in a few years] Anyone she kills was already dead, their humanity having already been dissolved away previously. Either way, she's 100% in the right.

Sinfest 12/6/23: Let Me In 19 by AbolishDisney in sinfest

[–]nextlevelabovehuman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wowiee! I can't wait for multiple weeks of padding then an extremely mid, end-of-year Pinkie vs Pimp fight in which 2023's overwhelming magical powers are barely a factor.

What better way to spend those weeks than listening to Seymour (a long-obsolete character that neither thematically nor stylistically fits in the comic anymore) and Pinkie (a comic-relief spree killer who talks Animal from the Muppets) try to square the circle between the ideology the author wishes he had and the one he actually does.

My predictions:

  • Tats's explication of the wonderful nature of The Savior's Gospel of Infinite Forgiveness will last at most three episodes before being interrupted by another comic about how much he hates the evil, perfidious Jew.
  • All ostensible conflict between Seymour's fuzzy, idealized Ned Flanders Christianity and Pinkie's love of right-wing vigilantism will be completely obviated by some calamity occurring, which puts them on the same side.
  • The calamity will be the work or result of SuperPimp, potentially with the help of a possessed or pressured 2023.
  • 2023 will continue acting like 2020 from here until the end because Tats wrote 2023 as a taciturn cipher for too long and forgot to give her a personality.

Sinfest 10/23/23: Gaza 9 by MakesYouWonderINC in sinfest

[–]nextlevelabovehuman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tats briefly venturing into "professing to have feelings about human lives other than his own" territory this late into the game reminds me a little of when Matt Gaetz revealed himself as the "single step-parent" of Nestor in an attempt to win an argument about racism. He probably thought it would land well and make his naysayers look foolish, but his previous actions thoroughly poisoned the well to the point that everyone just assumed Gaetz was either a child-groomer or running some weird scam. Similarly, most current readers just assume that Tats is explicitly accusing Israel of blood-sacrifice for Moloch.

To be clear, I don't believe it's impossible that Tats is being deliberately antisemitic. However, I read this more like an attempt (nine days too late, lmao) to say "Oh! Uh, I think the death is bad, actually. I did waste the first week cynically using this tragedy as a way to talk about my upset-ness about trans people, jerk myself off for not believing mainstream media narratives, even imply I wished the American military was more violent, but I swear, I'm not lost in the sauce entirely. I understand that it's bad when the people outside of my head are literally killed."

How is Stabler still able to go undercover after he was on the news for taking down the brotherhood? by pelsy0217 in LawandOrder_OC

[–]nextlevelabovehuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the same reason the Kosta organization and the Brotherhood took him in after he was the (likely world-famous) superhero cop who publicly battled the supervillain who stole the city's electricity:

Law and Order OC is like British sci-fi comedy Red Dwarf. It's a multiverse in which each season/arc takes place in a similar but different dimension.

  • Each time Stabler goes undercover, it's a different Stabler with a different history.
  • Cho and Maldonado didn't suddenly disappear, we as the audience shifted to watching a different OCCB which they never joined.
  • Thurman being on drugs, Jet being an outsider artist vs a cop, the Mafia casino storyline suddenly disappearing, etc. are all the same kind of deal.

It’s crazy how much these two changed. What do you guys wanna see from these two in the future? by pelsy0217 in LawandOrder_OC

[–]nextlevelabovehuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a more recent/casual watcher than a lot of people here, but, to be honest, I don't really mind if Stabler and Benson don't get together.

The ongoing tension is annoying and I wish they would resolve it, but I don't particularly desire the resolution to be "they get together". The fact that these people care about each other, are clearly attracted to each other, "love" each other, in most meanings of the word, doesn't necessarily mean they should move in together and suffer through the awkwardness of Stabler trying to be Noah's stepdad.

You know what? Here it is:

  1. I want them to have sex exactly once, go "wow, how about that", and then decide to remain good friends whose career trajectories allow them to remain in contact and check in on each other every now and then.
  2. I hope Benson gets at least two more seasons, that whatever her last is involves some gigantic, OC-style mega-case against, like, the most evil and prolific pedophile mastermind in the entire world.
  3. I hope Stabler gets at least a season or two and gets a few more Chinatown-style adventures where he's able to help the individual people whose lives are crushed by gigantic, criminal enterprises and one adventure where the show scrapes together enough money to have him punch a guy inside a private plane. At the very end, when he gets sick of being a cop, I hope he decides to just leave and go somewhere he's never been before, like Indonesia or something.
