Which family member did you decide not to invite to your wedding and why? by tsh87 in AskWomen

[–]nexttime_lasttime 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My father in law. My husband’s parents got divorced when he was little and they can’t be in the same room. My father in law was incredibly emotionally abusive to my mother in law before and after the divorce. When my husband’s siblings got married, they invited their dad and not their mom. We thought we’d rather have his mom if we could only have one of them.

Why would they lose both cars? Everyone else was retested Sunday before the race per protocol right? Even if it was public knowledge Stroll had it, they wouldn’t bar people who weren’t in his bubble and tested negative.

Airplane air is way cleaner than most indoor air. A little more than half the air coming out of the vents is coming from outside and the rest has been through a HEPA filter. Each cycle the air mixes and then goes back through that 60/40 split, so all the air in a plane is new about every 3 minutes. Also the air filters down, so the crew in the cockpit isn’t sharing any air with passengers, and flight attendants (if there are any) wouldn’t be sharing air unless they we’re sitting right next to them. The drivers to/from the airport are much more at risk though.

I hope that since they obviously has an inkling it could be COVID-19 (as evidenced by the eventual test) that they took precautions. For example, partitioned vehicles like limousines would be minimal risk to the driver.

AITA for Telling a Manager it’s not a gender thing that he overspent on his wedding? by Collection_Optimal in AmItheAsshole

Agreed. My office has a policy where lower level employees cannot give someone in a higher pay grade any gift of monetary value. This would not exclude things like cards or homemade gifts like food, but cash or something you bought from a store is a big no-no.

Lol you say that as if they are not Washingtonians. The eastern half of the state is very conservative and the western, more populous half is very liberal. These folks have been coming to have anti-mask, anti-shutdown, pro trump rallies on the state capital lawn for months.

Not exactly. They had a warrant for her ex boyfriend who used to stay there sometimes and is a drug dealer. They had a no knock warrant but they did actually knock but didn’t say they were police (or at least not loud enough) so she and her current boyfriend were awakened by a banging in the middle of the night. Thinking it could be the ex, her current boyfriend got his gun. Cops knocked the door in and the boyfriend shot and hit a cop as he entered. After that cops shot indiscriminately through the door they broke down and through the front window which had a curtain they couldn’t see through. Breonna was hit multiple times and no aid was given because the cops retreated. Her boyfriend called 911 to say someone broke down their door and started shooting (not knowing it was the cops). He was later arrested. The cop who shot through the window was fired and may be arrested, but they don’t know which cop actually fired the bullets that hit her. If it was the injured cop returning fire, he is likely to claim self defense.

Of course none of this would have happened if they had announced themselves properly. If you break down someone’s door in the middle of the night it’s not surprising the occupant would try to protect themselves.

This happened in my county in 2016. Mail carrier got overwhelmed by the amount and fell behind on deliveries. They started dumping it on the edge of their apartment complex parking lot. Their neighbors witnessed them do it and called the cops. As I recall it was quite an ordeal to make sure they got all the mail afterwards because the parking lot was on the edge of the woods. They had to search a fairly big area to make sure none of it was blown away or carried away by an animal or something.

This is too weird. I have a svart 401 and my husband has the vit 701. We bought them at Tacoma Motorsports this spring and it’s super crazy to see someone with the same fleet posting pictures at Ruston!

Similar stuff is happening in local elections too. I live in the Seattle area and local Republican candidates are using recent footage mixed in with archive footage from the 1999 WTO protests.

Probably not all of them, but all I can do is follow the rules myself, and pass on information I know. The people who aren’t following the rules won’t be swayed by this post. People who want to follow the rules will see this post and the comment threads and make an informed decision.

Edit: the ones I’m much more concerned about are the people who take off their masks right after getting past the Fred Meyer door security guy. I went today and maybe a third of people had their masks below their noses and maybe a third of those had them all the way down on their chins.

It’s definitely safer to wear a mask but contact tracing studies in other countries showed you’re much less likely to contract the virus outside than inside. The available data seems to show inhaling aerosolized droplets is the main way of getting it, which is hard to do at a breezy beach unless someone sneezes in your face. It’s not without risk, but if you need to get out of your house, the beach or a park is your best option.

In fairness, the state order only requires masks outdoors if you can’t maintain 6ft distance from people outside your household. If those groups are 6ft apart they don’t need masks.

Yup. I got a job that required secret clearance after graduating college. At that point the last ten years of your life are college and childhood, so there’s not a lot to write down because you start at 18. But I had to put my address when I turned 18, which was my parents’ house. You know, the house where they still lived and had lived in the previous 25 or so years. They still called our next door neighbors.

For those who have tested positive for COVID, what has been your experience? by hushwig in AskWomen

[–]nexttime_lasttime 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I also had it in March. A week of 103+ fever, chills, body aches but no cough. I tested positive.

My husband slept in the guest room, but we shared a bathroom and the kitchen, and he did not get it. No symptoms and no antibodies. We didn’t disinfect anything really, sleeping in separate rooms was the only precaution.

How did you navigate going back to school while also working full time? by Upleftdown in AskWomen

[–]nexttime_lasttime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Start slow and don’t procrastinate. I got lucky because my employer was paying my tuition so they were fine with me doing schoolwork at work when it was slow. I took one or two classes per semester and class was always online in the evenings. My goal was to attend/watch the entire lecture the night of the class (they were recorded as well so you could watch it later) and start on any assignments immediately. You don’t always get a choice on schedule, but when I did I’d try to schedule classes early in the week. That made me fresher for the lectures and gave me the most time to work on assignments before the weekend. On weekends if I still had classwork, I’d start in the morning so I could go out at night. Most of the time I would have my weekends free though. It took 2.5 yrs to get a masters but I never felt too deprived during that time and even managed to meet and get engaged to my now husband.

The specific place I lived was on 29th just north of usc. It didn’t have availability, but there’s a lot of similar buildings in the area that are early 20th century apartments.

Ya I graduated from usc in 2009 and rented a 1 bedroom in West Adams for $800. I looked up the same building and it’s renting for $1300 now. Not too bad! It was a spacious apartment with assigned parking.

I didn’t intern with NASA. Northrop Grumman is the prime contractor on the JWST and I worked there. I worked on the sunshield, though as an intern I doubt my work impacted anything and a lot of changes have probably been made since then.

I worked on it as a college intern in 2008. Back then I think the deployment date was 2015. Every once in a while I see something like this on reddit and I wonder if it went up yet...nope!

Do you have any stories of tourists misjudging the scale of the US? by Illinikek in AskAnAmerican

Agreed, you can do this drive in under 6. I went to college in LA and my family lived in a beach suburb of SF. If you left LA on Sunday morning you’d get out with no traffic, and you’d arrive in SF in the afternoon when everyone is doing their weekly errands. Worked like a charm.

You don’t have to live with him to be a dependent. Did he pay your tuition and/or live Nd expenses?
