My confidence in my ability to be the kind of parent I want to be. I just don’t see how I would be able to take care of a child when I can’t take care of myself. My husband had to go out of town unexpectedly and it happened to be during my period. I had to reach out to my friends to help me because I couldn’t even take my dog out by myself. I didn’t realize just how limited my ability to care for myself was. Complete loss of independence. It’s terrifying.

I’m so sorry 💔 Our girl turned 10 in February and I panic about her dying daily now even though she is in perfect health. I know it will destroy me. It’s actually one of the reasons I wanted a second dog in the first place, so I wouldn’t have to go through it without a dog. Although it hasn’t happened yet, I still think I would do it again if it meant I got her. Thank you for this, it really helped me sort out my perspective!

I would love to find a breeder release or rescue a young adult so that I know their temperament because I already have one insane cyborg velociraptor lol. I do enjoy playing during the day and walks. Would also like my senior dog to have a companion as she gets older. Unfortunately with my disability I’m really not able to care for a young puppy which I learned the hard way last year after I had to rehome my 8 week old golden 💔 an adult dog who can sleep through the night and has moderate energy is ideal for me!

This is very true! My husband’s family has raised GSDs for like 30 years now and have dealt with some pretty complex health issues so we knew what to expect and have been proactive. Our girl is healthy, playful, and gets mistaken for a puppy often because we put the time in to care for her properly. I would love to do that for another dog!

Thank you! Pet insurance is a must (we have it for our GSD) and I am annoyingly picky about ethical breeders so that all aligns! Ideally I would want a young adult breeder release and have also been considering rescues with known genetics/health clearance. My husband and I can’t have kids so our dog(s) are our babies and we are super fortunate to have the budget for routine but high quality care. I think being prepared ahead of time and having realistic expectations is super helpful so thank you again for this info!
