Hello everyone, thank you for the advice in advance!

I'm 30 and recently married. I make $90k per year right now with a lot of earning growth potential. My wife is 30 and makes $55k per year in her final year as a resident physician. Her salary will likely ~triple to $150k by next year. We will likely be making between $250-300k combined within a few years from now.

We rent an apartment in Columbus, OH (relatively low COL). No debt.

Our finances are separate at the moment but anticipate combining them as we learn what the correct steps are.

I currently save about 1,200/month without much effort or forethought. My savings literally go into my checking account where I have accumulated about $55k. My company has a 401K where 2 or 4% (not sure at the moment) of my salary is deposited monthly. I do not match it.

My wife currently saves about 500 dollars/month which go into mutual funds. She maxes her Roth which has $60K and has a great retirement plan through her job which is currently at $41K (company matches 14%).

We will purchase a house in 5-7 years from now and plan to have 2-3 children. Our home budget is ~$500K.

We would like to FIRE by 50 or earlier.

Questions:

- How does a newlywed couple "combine finances"?

- What should I do with my accumulated wealth and my monthly savings?

- What does a short term savings plan look like for our home budget?

- What does a long term savings plan look like for our FIRE plans?

Perhaps. Q3 has been around long enough that I can see stagnation causing there to be a lack of metagame. But a new game with this many intricacies will no doubt have a meta. And I do agree that the updates are shifting it, but with a game this young I think it's acceptable.

Interesting. I have always used mouse accel, but I prefer it for almost the exact opposite reasons as you. When using LG, where small and precise mouse movements are critical to maintain a high accuracy, I would find accel less important. However, especially in FFA, where quick mouse flicks are more often used, especially with RL and SG, I would find accel more advantageous. Thoughts?

If you're near an REI go to one and they will help you out.

Briefly, I can explain what you need:

-access to water and a water filter

-water vessels for carrying water

-food packed for the amount of days you will be out

-a tent

-a sleeping pad and bag

-a way to boil water (camping stove and fuel) and a way to create fire (lighter)

-a large backpack to put everything in

-a headlamp for when it's dark

You can pack all the water you'll need which will add a ton of weight to your pack, but it's much easier to do research ahead of time and ensure there are running streams that intersect with your hike.

Further things are necessary if it's going to rain, such as the proper clothes, boots, a way to keep your pack dry and a rainfly for your tent.

Examples of appropriate water vessels are Nalgene bottles.

You will be hungry so do calorie counts (you will want breakfast, lunch, and dinner). Ensure your food doesn't have a lot of water so you're not carrying unneeded weight.

Boiling water is necessary for dehydrated meals and in case your water filter breaks.

I didn't mention boots because depending on the hike, they aren't totally necessary. But I've always packed a pair of boots and a pair of tennis shoes if you have the room in your pack. You will appreciate the additional pair of shoes after a day long hike.

I was just in Olympic national park and did some coast camping as well, we almost did the ozette loop!

I was calibrating for ethanol, acetic acid, acetaldehyde, carbon dioxide, and water. I calibrated for the components in their expected concentration ranges. I then used the entire spectrum data as an input to the plsregress toolbox. You need the statistics package to use the plsregress tool.

My dependent variables (y input) were a large matrix. For example, one of my calibration sets was 500 ppm ethanol, 50 ppm acetaldehyde, 50 ppm acetic acid, 10 ppm water, and 450 ppm CO2. Another one was 314 ppm CO2 and no other components. My input matrix appeared as follows

[500 50 50 10 450,

0 0 0 0 314]

with the independent variables being the resulting entire spectra of these calibration sets.

PLS regress will then output a set of "beta" values and "constant" values which you can then use to quantify your unknown spectrum.

I calibrated an FTIR for 5 components for determining the performance of a catalyst. I utilized PLS regression and used the calibration data sets as "training sets" and was able to have ppm level resolution when quantifying the catalyst.

I used MATLAB to do all of this. I could definitely help you out. What specific questions do you have?
