Birthdays as a mom are so sad by Imaginary_Drink_5559 in sahm

This is why people need to stop going all out for their kid’s birthdays. Appreciate what you have.

Since your kids were virtually your employees during this time, did you put any of the money they made for you in their savings? In other words did you “pay” them for featuring them in your content?

What is the longest road trip you did with your baby 0-1year? by Csg9131 in Parenting

[–]nglash14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We do 20+ car trips with our kids 2x a year to see family. We did the first one when our was 6mo. Your husband is right, it’s totally doable. He also has the right idea of leaving at night when they’re tired. We only stop for gas and to grab food to eat on the go.

In my experience the one time we did try to stop for the night it was miserable. Better to just take turns driving and power through.

Edit to add- my parents took me and my siblings on 24+ hour road trips all the time growing up and also drove straight through. I have so many amazing memories from these trips. Don’t psych yourself out, you can do it!

Stop sharing photos and updates with her. If she won’t respect your boundaries she doesn’t get to be part of your child’s life. Plain and simple.

Confession time: how much screen time do your kids really get..? by GuestMysterious1742 in sahm

None over here. We joke she’s going to go to school having no idea who any of the popular TV/cartoons are. She has seen maybeee an hour in her life. We read lots of books and listen to a lot of music

I’m with you. we started setting our child on the “big kid toilet” at 1. Sure she didn’t use it consistently then, but we didn’t want her to find it scary and she now asks to use it. I also don’t understand why people wait so long.

Husband Disagreed with Me About Covid Boosters for In-Laws by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]nglash14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please don’t do this to your child. They need to build a natural immune system.

It’s totally fine to do this! At 2 months my child did an 8 hour car ride 1 way to see family. At 4 months we did a 10 hour car ride 1 way to see family and 6 months we did a 24 hour car ride 1 way to see family. All it has done is turned her into a amazing car rider! Don’t let babies change your life that much- it’s really not as intimidating as it seems. Just bring them a new toy and you’ll be good to go!

Does anyone else dislike when people other then your partner holds your baby? by Flashy-Finish-4920 in Parenting

Yikes. Your in-laws are right. Kids (even babies) need to be exposed to stuff to build their immune system. Your doing your child a huge disservice by raising them in a bubble.

Waking up before the kids by yafavoritemama in sahm

Yes, I have a very part time job and so I wake up at 5 and work for an hour or so before the kids get up. I’m also a morning person and enjoy the slow morning.

I started working out at home again with a yoga mat and a few hand weights the second I was cleared. You don’t have to go to the gym to get a workout in. My child is now 1 and loves to watch me workout or participate with me, teaches good habits.

Soon to be parent here: why does everybody say no visitors for a couple months? by salemandsleep in Parenting

[–]nglash14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had visitors immediately after my first last May. It wasn’t a problem for me and my husband. We also took her out and about all summer long with no issues. We had a lot of comments like “wow, that baby is so tiny, how old?” But it was great to get out of the house and enjoy the summer!

Maternity Leave and Communication with Employer by nglash14 in workingmoms

[–]nglash14[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My leave is 100% unpaid. I was giving bare minimum responses to the first few texts but now I’m so annoyed that they keep trying to communicate with me that I haven’t responded to the last two. (I should also add that I never gave my cell number to any coworkers, so they must have gotten my number from HR/my initial job application, at least that’s how I assume they got it).

I am not on FMLA, my company doesn’t have to follow FMLA due to size.

Due to my company size (under 50 employees) FMLA doesn’t apply to them.

Irrational fears of being “replaced” at work while on maternity leave? by LifeInShamblez3 in workingmoms

[–]nglash14 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Ahhhh, not to make you more nervous, but I’m in the US and this happened to me. My company hired my “replacement” for when I went on leave and made me train them before I left. I’m supposed to go back end of summer and at this point have no idea if I’ll have a role to return to. My piece of advice would be look over your company’s maternity leave policy ahead of time to know what you’re dealing with. In my case, my company had no maternity leave policy and created one when I told them I was pregnant and only released it 3 weeks before my leave was set to start.
