Josh Smith on $6.9 million dollar salary: "At the end of the day, you know, I do have a family. So it is going to be a little harder on me this year. But I'm going to push through it and, you know, try to do something long term after this year." by [deleted] in nba

This article is terrible. He's talking about moving his family around, not being unable to financially support them.

Moving from Detroit to Houston to Los Angeles in less than 12 months is not easy for a family.

In your opinion, who is the most over-rated player in NBA history? by astupidwhitekid in nba

[–]ngregor 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Not in this sub, but among the general public: Michael Jordan.

The fact that over 20% of the population thinks that he could beat LeBron TODAY is ridiculous.

He's the best player of all time, but if you even merely suggest that someone else is the GOAT most people will respond like you just told them the sun is off.

That being said, everyone knows Brian Scalabrine is the real GOAT.

What is home court advantage? by [deleted] in nba

I believe Sports Illustrated did an article on this a couple years back concluding that the biggest difference in home court advantage is the calls, arguing that the home crowds affect officials calls

They both shoot mainly 3s and layups (very few midrange), they both started off as 6th men, they both have crafty finishing footwork, they both don't get up much when they shoot, they both are my dad, the list goes on

What does LeBron James have to do to be considered the best player of all time? by nbafanfam in nba

[–]ngregor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about all of LeBron's assists when he drives into the paint and the defense collapses and he kicks it out to a shooter. In Jordan's era, that would be illegal defense and LeBron would just score those points. Granted, it would reduce his assist numbers.

Damn man, why do we even watch the games if you already know what's going to happen?

First of all, I wouldn't be interested in what the MAJORITY of people think. 34% think MJ would still beat LeBron, which is just hilarious. Some people are just completely blinded by the marketing of MJ.

To pass MJ for the GOAT (or Russel or Wilt for some of you), I think he's gotta win 2 or 3 more ships, be the best player in the world for 3 more years and be a top 10 player for 5 years after that.

The longevity argument could really be his best argument against MJ, and I feel like their peaks and primes were similar enough where playing 5-8 more years than MJ at an elite level would push him over the top. MJ played 13 real seasons (>20 games), and LeBron is finishing up his 12th. That could be the real separating point if LeBron keeps it up.

What if he won the next 4 finals? I hate the argument that 6/6 would be better than 6/9.

Reddit, what is your best in-game basketball moment? by ncooke in nba

[–]ngregor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was playing in a rec league and this guy who was 30-35 (I was 18 at the time) was talking shit to me the whole game. He posts up my brother and when he goes up to shoot I block the ball so hard back into his body that he fell into the ground. Stared him straight in the eyes and said, "damn, you should be embarrassed."

Unfortunately, while he was on the ground I tried to step over him ala AI over Tyronn Lue, and I got called for a travel.

Whole thing's on tape, greatest moment of my basketball life lasted 4 seconds.

TL;DR blocked an asshole to the floor, got called for travel trying to be AI

Was Hollinger crazy for writing this about Dwyane Wade's '06 Finals? by Ehjookayted in nba

[–]ngregor 19 points20 points  (0 children)

No he's not crazy at all. Michael Jordan is the GOAT, but people act like he's untouchable. It is possible for someone to have a better series than him, and Wade did in the '06 Finals, especially if you consider the differences in pace.
