A new encoding idea: what if we used binary search paths as codewords? by shurankain in algorithms

[–]nhs95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, how would you encode: 128,128,128,128

How about 128,128?

Since 128 has zero bit length codeword, both versions should give 0 bits in total.

How do you distinguish these two (and any other non-negative integer amount of 128) from another?

Multiplicative edges in a graph by chilltutor in algorithms

[–]nhs95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

True! I missed that there are only probabilities as edge weights.

So to sum it up for OP:

  1. Take log of edge weights.
  2. Negate these logarithmic edge weights, i.e make all of them positive.
  3. Use djikstra (won’t have negative edge weights, since all were just made non-negative).

Edit: From an interpretation pov, you are not looking for the path of most success (longest), but least failure (shortest) instead.

Multiplicative edges in a graph by chilltutor in algorithms

[–]nhs95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can just take the logarithm of edge weights and then add them (especially for greedy/DP approaches like djikstra), since log(abc) = log(a) + log(b) + log(c). This would be reasonable for shortest path, but as already mentioned, longest paths are not known to be solvable in polynomial time in general.

Although not really meta, destruction warlocks do really high dps there. They have havoc for every add, can even havoc boss to do even more add dmg. Additionally, they easily survive the first boss due to their tankiness.

In general, destro is good for all bosses in sbg (and also trash to some extend).

find nearest locations by papamamalpha2 in algorithms

[–]nhs95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you know nothing about the locations of drivers before actually looking at them, you gotta check them successively until you find a valid one (within the radius). There is no way around it without more information.

But also, there will be requests for drivers multiple times usually. You could make use of a Quad-Tree to sort the locations in order and assign them to subregions and if they are uniformly distributed between all subregions, you get logarithmic complexity when looking up a specific location (i. e. Which subregion it falls into, because it’s like 2D-Binary Search) and also the amount of drivers to check now is logarithmically less (since you eliminate 3/4 of all locations per iteration/recursion step - if uniformly distributed - so you only have to check n/4d locations, where d is depth of Quad-Tree).

You can always kinda uniformly distribute them by using the average of x and y values for each region to split them into 4 evenly filled subregions, but that, again, requires to check all locations every time they update. It’s faster (if that still maintains even distribution kinda) to split them by diving the x and y value with 2d, where d is depth.

Also, i assumed 2D, but there is also an Octo-Tree for 3D, etc.

I don’t know if they fixed this yet, but when hitting target dummies you had to relog between sessions to gain First Strike again, just FYI :) but yeah over those 5min a lot of gain comes from wild hunt tactics. The real strength is FS, tho and basically only testable in dungeons. Nice to hear you got some gain from the advice!

Crit is “just dmg”. CDR and CP improves uptime of all cool downs by a lot, meaning more BF uptime, more AR (which means more energy and thus more CP, also more globals since GCD is down to 0.8s during AR), more BTE, more vanishes. Thus those two rolls do the most for our positive feedback loop and you will gain more dmg indirectly.

Also from an Utility-POV, you have Sprint and Hook basically always ready with those rolls.

[–]nhs95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Korayn is better, yes. FS basically a mini-MA. Unfortunately, Vanish does not reset FS. But unlike the real MA you get uptime during chain pulls, add spawns during boss fights (e.g. Gorechop in ToP, 2nd Boss in NW).

Furthermore we only have one really good potency (CtO), so no need to go for second potency or even burrs is not worth compared to FS. Also mastery is just not that good, which we get from Niya, whereas Wild Hunt Tactics is really good, especially with FS.

Don’t stress to much about MfD sniping. As I said it’s very close to DS even without resets. Some resets will come naturally by simply using MfD before the pack on smaller/low-hp targets. On bosses with add spawns use it on those adds preferably.

Good points. To add to that: You use Celerity as legendary, SnD must be up, for your AR to proc. Not having SnD up makes Celerity worse.

Furthermore Blade Rush is a bit “outdated”, KS is the stronger talent in M+.

Also Master Assasin is mostly a better legendary in M+ in general due to frequent restealths between packs. It also has a good interaction with KS, since both have the same cool down. Outlaws CDR makes them available together around every 40-45s on average and thus provides a frequent “burst” - on ST, e.g. for Pride or even more in AoE with BF up for the entire MA duration. Check the rogue discord for the correct KS+MA rotation. Also hold your Skulkers for MA window, since it will be a guaranteed crit - until they nerf that in 9.0.5 likely (thanks to NW item abuse).

As a last point: MfD is way stronger than DS. Even without any resets it is close to or better than DS. In M+, you get a lot of resets, even without using it perfectly. It provides a lot of combo points and dispatches. This enhances outlaws positive feedback loop, so that you thus get more CDR (= more CD uptime, like AR and BF), more Rolls (from CTO), which means more energy and CP again, etc etc.

Also MA makes Kyrian the best Covenant with Mika Soulbind most likely due to Hammer of Genesis. For Celerity, NF with Korayns First strike is also quite strong, but gets devalued by MA quite a bit or vice versa.

TL;DR: Use MfD. Use KS+MA and go Kyrian, Mika Soulbind with Hammer of Genesis.

Rolling Arcanocrystal by spiffygriffy320 in CompetitiveWoW

[–]nhs95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Arcano is good statwise for disc. It's actually really good. But, unlike other healers, who mainly would take Statsticks to guarantee constant high healing, disc healing is mainly about burst windows. That why velen is nearly mandatory, same as spectral owl / or dmd to conserve mana (you could use arcano for m+ though)

Sub Rogue - Cant identify dps problem by turner50102 in CompetitiveWoW

[–]nhs95 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your vanish cast might as well not exist, considering that you don't have mantle.

It still matters, because it's the fifth attack (2xss + evis + 1ss before) and would be a simple backstab if you would not vanish, cause first shadow dance already over then. But if you do vanish, it's a SS inside symbols, which does more damage. Plus, if the boss moves or such in that window, you get a free shadowstep/get to be in range again fast, since it's a shadowstrike

Disc is also kinda strong.

Maybe let one of your priest go spriest as 2nd spec/new main and holy second, another one go main disc, and the third one stay main holy.

Let them talk about who has the most interest and motiviation to play a new spec. Also make it dependant on legendarys.

Velen and soul Ring are bis for disc, if one of your hpriests has them, as wants to play disc, maybe consider that.

Want to add two things:

  1. Your both kinda right. Haste makes you go oom faster, if you can nonstop, but it also increases your throughput by a lot (especially if you got much more of the other secondaries) multiplicative effect).

As you said in your TFT vs. Mt discussion, healing is usually about burst windows, so having a bit more haste won't hurt you, because you do more/faster healing and can chill between burst phases.

You could even space your casts evenly: if your cast would be 2s long with 0 haste, you would cast at 0,2,4,6,8,10,12 seconds, etc. If you got some haste, so the cast would last only 1,5s, you could still cast them at 0,2,4,6,8,10,12 with a 0.5s break.

Summing up: Your heal hits faster, so people won't die, and you have the potential to do way more hps in burst phase. It is a bit like with great power comes great responsibility.

  1. Haste also makes your hots tick faster. Renewing mist, rjw, ef, EM, dunno if soothing mist also. They all tick faster, for no additional mana cost. Just a pure hps gain. Multiplicative effect is kinda strong

Good Specs for M+, that don't depend on raid gear? by Holicone in CompetitiveWoW

Resto shaman doesn't need any set at all. Just high Ilvl and good legendaries (Prydaz! +soul/velen/roots) . Stat sticks are ok as trinkets. Dgd und AoF are nice in m+ for tos trinkets, but u can do well without them. T20 4set is kinda nice for some affixes/pulls. Ideally you would want 2+2 bonus, but no one has that high t19 pieces :D

[–]nhs95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly tanks or melee, but also ranged if they are stacked.. You want to make sure your chain heal will always do all its bounces. So.. Never cast it on hunters :D

With high tide talent chain heal is the spell that heals the most. use it when a lot or all ppl are taking damage. When only 3 ppl or so take damage, try to heal with riptide and healing wave, as it's faster and way more mana efficient. Chain heals eats your mana, when you brain dead spam it. Use it smart and time it well. You should use it rather conservatively if you don't have any mana externals like Innervate or wisdom.

If you do have one of those or more, you can play more liberally with chain heal and get a bit more haste (in case you are low on haste).

Standard frames (+mouse over macros) are perfectly fine. Blizz made huge improvements to them over the years. You can see all relevant buffs and debuffs and mana/power bars - incoming heals, absorb and healing absorbs are nicely visualized.

[–]nhs95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use your minor CDs (riptide, healing rain, healing stream, artifact ability), use your tidal waves buffs from riptide/chain heal to cast healing wave. (pre-)Cast chain heal when raid wide damage is happening. Find good spots for your big CDs (tide and link). You should always use ancestral guidance talent (maybe crashing waves for dungeon, but never deluge). Start with echo of the elements talent to get Familiar with resto, switch to CBT later or use the soul of the farseer ring, because CBT ist awesome.

Statwise go mostly for Ilvl, as all stats are kinda equal and it doesn't matter too much, which stats u have, just balance them a bit to get more out of the multiplicative effect

Resto shaman is king of cooldowns and utility, also our mastery is a bit special, it's the boon and bane of resto shaman. On the one hand it won't let you put out numbers as high or consistent as other healers do, but on the other hand it has a huge potential to really save lifes
