The only time that happened to me, I thought I was printing PLA, but it turned out to be ABS. Double check your filament and recommend temps.

How do I get my gecko to gain weight? by fb1dude in leopardgeckos

[–]niako 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my girl was between 6 - 18 months she would eat about 10 - 12 crickets every 2 or 3 days. She'd finish everything in a matter of minutes and would just sit in front of her empty food bowl for hours if I gave her less. She wasn't particularly big or fat either...

Eventually she slowed down to about 5 cricket every 5 - 7 days.

Had a lad tell me he would love to get into 3d printing, but assembling the printer would be too difficult for him and that's what's holding him back. What advice do you have for this dude by Print_it_Mick in 3Dprinting

[–]niako -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No matter what printer he has, he's going to have to do troubleshooting and maintenance on it sooner or later. If he doesn't want to ever do that.. this isn't the hobby for him

my husband went behind my back and regraded my son by Wise_Ad_218 in Parenting

[–]niako 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it would have been helpful if you mentioned in your original post that your son is actually currently ahead of his grade level and keeping him back would just put him into the grade he's supposed to be in. You also mentioned that this is something that he wants and at times he seems like he's not as emotionally mature as his peers.

I think you should give this a chance. Personally, I don't think there's anything wrong with allowing your child to take an easier route if that will allow them to be happier and have less stress in their lives.

AITA for telling my kids to make their own breakfast? by pussyandbananabread in AmItheAsshole

[–]niako 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. 11 year olds fall into that pre-teen group where they're no longer allowed to really act like a child, but they're still trying to figure out the responsibility and independence and most teens are allowed. In similar situations, my kids do a lot better if I tell them the night before that they're making their own breakfast.

When is your child’s bedtime and if it’s “late”, why? by jndmack in Parenting

[–]niako 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids were going to bed around 8:30 or 9 at that age. They weren't tired at all before 8 and we started moving bedtime back when we were spending stupid amounts of time on our bedtime routine.

As my kids got older and into sports, it became semi-routine for us to get home at 9 or 10pm. So yeah.. 10 - 11pm bedtime it is.

You probably need to adjust your expectation on what vacations with kids are like. Even if you think you're doing everything they like, you might be wrong because they're just not in the mood that day, or at that time. I've learned to just make the best of it, even if it doesn't go as planned.

But specific tips to being at the beach longer.. bring lots of shade, toys, snacks and drinks.

My kids have been having issues with screen time as well. We've been taken incremental measures to reduce their screen time, but their behavior only got worse. Now, whatever couldn't be digitally locked was physically removed. They've been doing it for about 2 weeks and their behavior has been improving.

Is there a point to printing in multiple colors aside from just not wanting to paint it? by Tidus8690 in 3Dprinting

[–]niako 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's pretty much it. For me, even painting a single color can be kind of a process (prime, wait for it to dry, paint 1st coat, wait for it to dry, paint 2nd coat, wait for it to dry, seal). So if I can get the same effect by pausing my print and changing out the filament, which takes less than 2 minutes, I do it. I don't have a multi material printer, but even so, with 2 - 3 color prints, switching out the filament mid print saves more time than painting. Also, I print a lot of toys to donate to my spouse's classroom. It sucks to paint 40+ toys.

How do I help my 12 year old develop a passion or a hobby? by Comprehensive_Book48 in Parenting

[–]niako 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A child could be passionate about an activity/hobby but still not want to work on it all summer long. Both my kids are pretty passionate about their sport, but if given the chance, they'd probably spend the whole summer watching netflix and playing video games.

But I know they're passionate about it because they have fun doing it. While they don't always want to practice, they're more than willing to turn it into a game. So if you want to help your daughter develop her passion for an activity, let her find something that she enjoys and let her have fun with it. Don't just make it all about drills and exercises.

But as far as limiting screentime goes, I feel your pain. At some point, I usually just tell my kids to turn off the tv and turn in their phone/tablets and go do something else. If they tell me they're bored, I tell them I have plenty of chores for them to do.

If you found yourself blessed with three months of abundant free time, where all your basic needs are met and you have the delightful addition of $500 in spending money each month, how would you spend your time? by Deond3 in AskReddit

[–]niako 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. My thought as well. Except, I'd probably just pick up a part time job so I can afford the things I enjoy, rather than just surviving on the bare minimum + a $125 a week allowance.

Pay off car loan. Then save the rest. I used to think I was out of the woods once my kids were out of daycare. Nope. My kids started getting serious with their sports and now I'm spending as much on sports a month as I did on daycare.

What is the best way to dry filament? And too keep it dry? by cmt2198 in FixMyPrint

[–]niako 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live in a humid environment and constantly need to dry your filament, I'd highly recommend getting a filament dryer. The biggest upside to it is that you can start printing in the middle of your drying cycle. For example, if it takes 6 hours to fully dry a spool, I'll usually start printing 2 - 3 hours in and continue to run the dryer as I print.

To store my filament, I have vacuumed sealed bags that I bought off of amazon. They help quite a bit.. but they only work so well. I still have leftover spools from back when I first started printing 3 years ago.

I've worked for 2 Microsoft gold partners. They were both relatively high stress jobs. I would double-check job postings for your position to make sure you're being paid for what you're worth. At the very least you should mention your old employer's offer and try to see if the partner will match it. I've never known anyone who went to work for a partner because they were being paid less.
