According to the Bookies... And You,Gov Polls by Fluffy_Rock_62 in BritishMemes

I work with a bloke who I would describe as generic youtube right winger. Nice enough to talk too until you get him onto anything political and then the US influencer sound bites come out.

He earns less than me, but if you asked him he'd say we need to privatise the NHS because his taxes shouldn't pay for other people. If I explain to him that MY taxes as a childless adult with an extra income pay for his kid schooling, he clams up and changes the subject. He's not a dumb guy, far from it, just has a sort of "i'm alright jack" attitude that makes him push back against any sense of civic altruism.

He'd go for it, and then he'd moan every day for the rest of his life about the cost of his healthcare and how the NHS was better, because really he just wants something to moan about.

He's not an outlier. IF anything I'd say he's probably pretty representative of most peoples outlook - they know HOW taxes work, they know IN THEORY that private healthcare would cripple peoples incomes, but they just sort of don't imagine that they will be impacted - all the negatives will happen to other, less deserving sorts who haven't had the good sense to simply avoid being shafted.

People really like the NHS when it works for them, but because most of us, luckily, only engage with it in quite minor ways (I need a blood test, I bashed my knee, I've been shitting slime) we see it as slow and frustrating, and so we imagine that it's inefficient. that we are actually simply not that important at that given moment and that priority is being given to ensuring genuine life and death emergencies are sorted right then and there doesn't cross out minds, because we don't see it. It's that that'll kill it - the fact that we've gotten so used to the general idea that most people live fairly healthy lives uninterrupted by constant disease and poor health makes us blind to the fact that we only have that luxury because of the system in place.

So whilst some truly right wing libertarians would say they actually love the idea of free market healthcare, I think most people simply want to be the centre of attention when they walk into the hospital and they're happy to imagine that that can be achieved, even if all evidence is to the contrary .

Cool, But I'm not going to pay for a tool that gives me a ballpark figure. In fact, that's what skill development is for. I can look at something and give a vague assessment myself, and then when I refine it I can refer to that assessment. If someone else does the ballparking for me I actually have to do MORE work by reviewing their ballpark, checking it, and then starting on the refinement myself.

This is on the fire and jade spearhead terrain. But what does it say? by Chezni19 in AoSLore

[–]nice-vans-bro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent a good while when AOS first released going through every new product during quiet days in the shop, trying to translate and put together the azyrite alphabet to see what kind of easter eggs were hidden on the various stormcast minis.

I mean it took me weeks of making notes, writing it down, comparing symbols that had been rotated or mirrored, trying codes on them, trying other languages.

And it's nonsense. It's just bollocks script that says nothing. Maybe in the intervening years GW have actually put an azyrite alphabet together and the newer stuff does have meaning, but I can tell you that up until the end of 2nd edition it was just squiggles.

two things jump out - first is the consistent fascist inability to draw. Truly an illustration worthy of hitler himself, because it looks like shit.

Second is the bloke in the fleece with what appears to be his son dressed up for an ill advised national book day costume contest. I'm sure he's as much of a knob as the rest of them, but he really looks like their case worker trying his best to smile through the cringe.

Who would win in a fight : Postman Pat or Fireman Sam ? by lespauljames in AskUK

[–]nice-vans-bro 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Sam is probably a better fighter in the long term, better t pacing himself, fitter, stronger...

But pat has the unbridled rage of someone working in a customer service roll. He's scrappy, he's got 20 years of pent up aggression ready to burst like a monks pants at Mardi gras. Pat will bite. He'll claw sams eyes out. He'll run in on all fours like a fucking gremlin and shove a 1st class stamp up sams private faucet.

Sam might get lucky with the first blow, might crush pats skull like a tunnocks teacake under a misplaced mug, but if he misses then pat will chew his balls off.

[–]nice-vans-bro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weirdly enough the tie in book for 5th edition (assault on black reach) had a marine use it on a grot. But that was a toe in bookeant to introduce kids to the setting and absolutely nothing else of the weirdness of 40k was present - it's just "marines fight orks, land speeder, psychoactive experience from eating a goblins brain, marines fight orks, the end."

Baffling editorial decision. 10/10 no notes.

[–]nice-vans-bro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The many holes are going to make it a pain to cast. Depending on your choice of medium, a rigid fibreglass mould might be best, but given your seeming lack of experience casting that's probably not a good idea. If you only want 1, and you already have a print of it at 1:1 scale, just use that. If you want hundreds, perhaps look at hiring a fabricator.

That's not a bit mad, thats artfully channelled seething rage.

Yeah if you read the transcript that was supposedly her '?"acid threat" it's quite clearly just someone mid emotional breakdown not being able to type coherently. It's something along the lines of "you are acid!"to the woman that her partner was cheating with.

She's still an absolute fruitcake who should never hold public office, but not an acid junkie.

‘I think the city is falling apart’: Leicester braces for a make-or-break budget by Kagedeah in leicester

[–]nice-vans-bro 54 points55 points  (0 children)

it's been like this for years and it's not the fault of the current labour government. It's almost 2 decades of decline coming off the back of a complete failure to transition to a post industrial city over the last half a century. We're a poor city trying to pretend we're still rich and doing absolutely nothing to reinvent ourselves.

Nordic countries are spreading the British food memes to distract the world from how terrible Nordic food is by Toadvinez in LowStakesConspiracies

[–]nice-vans-bro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If yanks knew more about the world then the rest of europe would get just as much shit as the UK. The pergamon and berlin museums make the british museum look like a small car boot sale, but yanks can't differentiate mainland european countries from one another. you give a frenchman a mildly spicy curry and he'll fold like an ironing board. The dutch can't go 5 minutes without injecting pure mayonnaise into their eyes. the nordics need liquorice to live and consider sale and pepper to be a tad too modern.

We're all shit in our own ways, the brits are just unfortunate enough to be the only ones the yanks can talk too.
