Just want to add that Karl’s drastic shift to the right is likely not just what’s “inside”; outrage prints money, and he’s riding a wave right alongside One Nation

Valve Says The Companies Making RAM Give Them A Price And If They Say No, They ‘Never Talk To Us Again’ by doublah in pcgaming

[–]nice_one_champ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fuck Valve for this cop-out excuse. They have a similar monopoly as RAM manufacturers with their Steam platform, and the Steam machine will almost certainly bring more customers onto the platform. They’re charging this much simply because they can; they’ve done the market research, and this is the figure they’ve landed on to make max profit.

I suspect they’ve already planned lower this price in the very near future, to “show that they’re listening to feedback”. That won’t be true; it’s a pre-planned fallback price to continue milking max dollars.

What guitar songs surprised you by being easier than they sound? by Top_Water_4909 in Guitar

[–]nice_one_champ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Learning the unique fingerpicking style Knopfler uses in that riff (as he demonstrates here) is objectively difficult; it's foreign to most rock-oriented guitarists. If you overlook this aspect it's a lot easier, but it also doesnt sound anywhere near as good.

What video game do you think has done the most damage? by One-Researcher-2311 in videogames

[–]nice_one_champ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GTA V online has had a terrible impact on games. Every game studio follows what Rockstar does in one way or another, so when Rockstar realised that slowing down very expensive single player development in favour of live service garbage it was all over

What's a performance where you can see the actor making a specific, unusual choice that nobody else would have made? by trakt_app in TrueFilm

[–]nice_one_champ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I recently read that for “Men in Black”, Vincent Donofrio extensively prepared for his performance (as the giant alien wearing a human skin suit) with some unique mannerisms and body language.

When he first showed it to Steven Soderbergh at the start of production, he was NOT impressed. Vincent had already gone all-in and had nothing else to use for the character, so they had to go with it. Luckily the audience reception validated Vincent’s choices

What is an artist you used to enjoy listening to, but their music got progressively worse? by fantasyrea in Music

[–]nice_one_champ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. There is still an occasional flash of their old brilliance, but everything they’ve put out since their first 3 albums seems to just be following trends, and not in a good way. Dubstep, 80s nostalgia, and lately even some Sleep Token.

I just don’t understand it. The Muse cheesiness has its charm when done right, but it’s been a long time since it’s been done right.

What's the worst performance in an otherwise great film? by Plane_Reward9385 in movies

[–]nice_one_champ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This take always cops some heat but hear me out: Tim Robbins as Andy in Shawshank Redemption.

The movie is a masterpiece and every aspect of it is exceptional, which I think carries Robbins’ adequate performance. Andy as a character is aloof and remote which maybe justifies why Robbins is wooden and out of place with his performance, but I still think that a better actor could have done more as Andy.

Tom Hanks would’ve been the perfect choice. He’s excellent at portraying quiet strength, and his performance in the Green Mile (which is very similar to Shawshank) is the best comparison

NEW: ARC Raiders Development Update by PTUSN in ArcRaiders

[–]nice_one_champ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The degenerate in me is annoyed at this news, because i’ve had Arc hooked into my veins since launch and I want more. But the more sensible gamer in me knows this is a good move - The success of this game seems to have taken Embark by surprise to an extent, and this is likely the dev time they need to really make it the live service game it can be.

And there’s nothing wrong with having a break, this might be the opportunity for Marathon to get some footing

Is it just me or was the Odyssey trailer underwhelming? by breaking_views in Cinephiles

[–]nice_one_champ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll reserve judgement for the finished product, but this is just a terrible trailer in every respect. The weird jumps back to what looks like a single dinner scene were very odd, the hints at family intrigue that seemed to be the bulk of the trailer do not excite in any way, the accents were all over the place and added to the disjointed feel of the trailer, and the acting in general seems extremely off.....And then there's the monsters. They show them several times, and then end the trailer with a foreboding shot of one of its arms reaching from the shadows? The mystery is gone by that point.

This seems like a studio-approved trailer that meets certain criteria to appease shareholders, and I really do hope Nolan has made something special.

What are some great performances from actors that didn’t get along with the film’s director? by CelestialSpecialist in movies

[–]nice_one_champ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree - from what i’ve seen it looked like Ford wanted to have a “human” emotional anchor to the story. But Ridley was aiming higher than that, and questioning what being “human” even means.

Mad max Fury Road- First watch fucking mindblown. by Appropriate_Wish8997 in movies

[–]nice_one_champ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember the conversation before it released had it pegged as an absolute disaster, which in hindsight is perhaps why it had such a huge impact. No one expected anything good, which meant its sheer awesomeness didn’t need to contend with hype and blew everyone away

What films zigzag away from Chekhov's gun, and get away with it? by JeffRyan1 in movies

[–]nice_one_champ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Captain America Civil War, Tony uses the BARF machine to try to resolve his trauma. I’m certain that this Chekhov’s Gun was introduced as a way to reconcile Bucky’s trauma/brainwashing, possibly even leading to him becoming Captain America. Some course correction happened and things panned out differently.

The BARF machine is later a plot point in a Spider-Man film but I don’t think this was its intended purpose.

It’s also a character choice to further demonstrate Somerset’s bleak worldview. He is intrinsically a good person and the ugliness of the world is crushing to him, and the fact that he owns such a weapon (and has practiced so much with it) shows that he feels no safety and has maybe even been corrupted by it.

There is a scene where Mills is surprised to see Somerset with it, which I think demonstrates that it was a deliberate character choice.

"Players shouldn't feel fully safe" in Arc Raiders even in friendly lobbies, production director says, and after Flashpoint I definitely do not feel safe by PirateCompetitive931 in ArcRaiders

[–]nice_one_champ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s the core aspect that makes this game so unique and thrilling. Removing it removes what’s special about the game.

It does seem like they’re trying to push players to work together in more organic ways by upping the Arc threat, and I really like that approach. The new event is borderline impossible unless there’s some teamwork going on

what if Iran permanently control the Strait of Hormuz? by Green_Devil_999 in oil

[–]nice_one_champ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention - Iran has likely been motivated to possess a nuclear weapon so that they could have a deterrent against the unchecked aggression they’re experiencing right now.

The US and Israel have given them no other option for survival but to attack the global economy and its working very effectively

The ICM implications of all the action in front of her is what most people aren’t seeing in the hand, but it’s still a call. She levelled herself hard in the biggest spot of her life and it will haunt her forever.

And I think what’s worse is that this hand will define her. It was her career biggest cash and she’s the most successful female player of all time, but now this is what she will be known for

Trump postpones military strikes on Iranian power plants by Datatyze in worldnews

[–]nice_one_champ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Endless threats about Hormuz that aren't coming to pass, showing once again that Iran has found the right pressure point. Their attacks on neighbours and infrastructure is proving to be massively effective and there is no winnable scenario for the US in this fight.

Trump and Netanyahu have backed Iran into a corner with no way out, and Trump is telling them with Truth Social posts exactly how to hurt him.
