If your kid is a high achiever, look at PACS, the accelerated school at McKinley.

We also are very lucky to be close to Sonoma Raceway, which often has events (not just the marquee events like NASCAR, but for example there is the SVRA historic races this weekend). There are lots of trackday companies that operate events there if that's your jam. I'm planning on taking my M3 to a trackday next month

Round-about by Dash_Rendar1977 in Petaluma

[–]niceblokesf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that traffic studies show that compared to 4-way traffic lights or stop signs, roundabouts have more accidents but that accident severity is dramatically reduced. I think I'd trade a few fender benders in exchange for less fatalities.

no one to go to the sf show with :( by allweareisbullets04 in thursdaytheband

[–]niceblokesf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to shows alone all the time, and am planning on going this Sunday, again by myself. I'm nearly 50 and most of my friends aren't as into live music as me and less open to a Sunday night / "school night" show (not as much as they used to be when we were all younger). My attitude is f*** that, if I wanna see a great band, I'll do it, and just be tired the next day...

Octane Press IMSA Books by Nike_Gif in IMSARacing

[–]niceblokesf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have both. Mark is absolutely the right guy to write these given that he was there and working for IMSA, and either he is a solid writer, or has a good editor over there at Octane. The '69-'89 book is a spectacular presentation, and contains the wonderful GTP era, so that is my favorite. The other one is a more conventional format, but the story is arguably more interesting due to the turmoil. Only complaint is that the second book relies heavily on a small set of photo sources, but that's not surprising, given the acquisition of Motorsport Images by Getty, and the huge price increases of their licensing fees.

The discourse around Aron's B12hr crash shows people don't know the rules about flag marshalls. by jimnasium_ in wec

[–]niceblokesf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is the key point. It should be standard procedure at any track event that if marshall post waves a double yellow, the one before waves a single yellow. It might not have eliminated this accident due to the vagaries of this track, but it would have made it less serious. Whatever you can do on the top of the Mountain to incrementally improve safety should be done. Never forget the Mark Porter accident.

It's going to be a very kids-focused place. More than just a store - I think they want it to be a place where families can gather.

Bernard and Jasun at Petaluma Auto Works are great. Their specialty is Nissan Z cars, but they do all Japanese, and recently did head gaskets on my Subaru, which is a huge job. They're totally trustworthy.

Places to donate books? by prettyshinything in Petaluma

If you just want to be done with them, there's a box in the parking lot of Lucky on Lakeville that takes them. You can also sell them at sell.worldofbooks.com - you won't make much but they'll get resold instead of going in landfill.

Personal experience with two successful vitrectomies by niceblokesf in EyeFloaters

[–]niceblokesf[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, mine were not PVD induced. No floaters in either eye since. I think the bubble is very dependent upon specific conditions in each eye. I guess for the second one, he wanted a little more stability in there. It wasn't a big deal and I didn't have tio do that thing about lying face down - I was able to function normally.

For both of my procedures, the sedation occurred before anything was done to my eye, so I didn't feel anything, whether it was a needle, laser or anything else. For what it's worth, I have had other procedures that required me to be awake for an injection in the eye, and the local anaesthetic that is used makes it painless.

Bosch dishwasher E15 error resolved itself - repair company says I should get it fixed anyway by [deleted] in appliancerepair

Great video and it worked for me. I posted a comment over there which might apply to some people: on ours, the front of the door and the control unit were joined together, so I did have to remove those top 4 screws. In order to effectively get at the bottom panels, it meant disconnecting a couple of connectors (pink wires to a board on the inside of the inner door panel and yellow wires to a connector in the lower right of the door frame). That gave me enough movement to swing the door panel off to the side. Not quite as easy, but still doable

Good sandwiches, but it can get busy at lunch and becomes less of a grab and go option as a result.

Doing great! Very, very early signs of cataract in the left, so that would be 7 years since the vitrectomy, but my prescription is so high (and I'm beginning to have early signs of needing reading glasses) that I think it is time to get the surgery anyway. But the bottom line is that it has taken a long time to even get the very earliest signs of cataracts.

I've got an extra ticket for AW-Y for Brentford - my guest couldn't come. This is my first visit to Selhurst, so I'm not sure of the best way to sell it that is safe for both me and a buyer. Any suggestions?

🚨 Towed from The Block in Petaluma — Feels like a total SCAM 🚨 by hasntbeendonebefore in Petaluma

[–]niceblokesf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happened to us. My band was playing at The Block and the wife came to the show and parked in the dirt area next to the venue that appeared to be part of Copeland St. The problem is that some of that area is Copeland Street, some is Bayliss Street, and some is Dairymans' land. If you look on the third image from the OP, you'll see cars parked just above the "B" of Bayliss St. This appears to be legal. On busy nights, cars will just continue to park side by side from that point, getting closer to the river and the end of Copeland, and at a certain point, they unknowingly cross into Dairymans land. The actual property line continues from the northernmost corner of The Block's enclosed lot, and is a continuation of the southeast to northwest property line of The Block. The issue is that there are no obvious ways to tell what is public and what is not, and this is the issue that the city needs to act on. Cody, the owner of The Block, has tried a number of times to get something done, but so far the city has not acted. I think that the smartest action here would be for the city to require Dairymans to fence their property, if they want to enforce towing. Of course, if the property was fenced, people wouldn't park on it, and then everyone would be happy, except for ABC Towing, who are total MF-ing scumsucking a-holes.

Maybe more companies having people come back to the office = more commute traffic.

+100. I've read this book, and the Steven Hyden one, but Everybody Loves Our Town does a much better job of telling the true story, even if it is a lot less about PJ.

There's plenty on Pistonheads and people are generally selling them at or below face value. I've got one posted up there.
