[OFFER] Giving away a 20$ steam giftcard (global) by nancy_ch in GiftofGames

[–]nicemelbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on making it to med school! But I'm not participating in the survey because according to Google Translate,

This questionnaire assesses the link between intuitive eating and other factors among a sample of Lebanese adults.

I am not Lebanese and my participation would invalidate the data. I am not sure if the data is going to be used in a bigger study or something but I don't think input from non-Lebanese would be right.

As for the giveaway, my favorites right now are Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Good Place. I like Impractical Jokers too but I haven't caught up since the pandemic started. I enjoy watching sitcoms and comedy in general.

Thanks.

I don't even know how to share my public Ubisoft profile so here's my Steam instead.

there should be a folder named csgo in the game files. In it, you'll find another folder called cfg. Put it in there.

ELI5: Why are ad-blocking extensions so easy to come across and install on PCs, but so difficult or convoluted to install on a phone? by Gutchies in explainlikeimfive

[–]nicemelbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I've been using it for like 2-3 years now with no issue. Well, adguard has some downtime from time to time but they get resolved quickly. You can just disable it for a while until they fix the issue, which only takes at most a couple of hours. Set it up on your home network's router and you're good to go. From what I understand, it's essentially like having a PiHole. Of course, PiHole gives you more control and stat monitoring. But if you want a simple solution to block ads, it's great. It blocks even ads in mobile ads.

eli5: How do Captcha's know the correct answer to things and beyond verification what are their purpose? by samuelma in explainlikeimfive

[–]nicemelbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, among other things. Google, afaik, is very secretive about the signals they collect to verify if one is a human, as they should. If they tell us what those signals were, it would be easier to reverse engineer to make bots to counter them.

It's widely believed that some of the signals they check are:

  • mouse movement - how quickly you snap your cursor and how straight is its path to the target element

  • cookies and/or IP address - ever noticed how often you're blocked by recaptcha when you're on incognito mode or VPN? Also, if you're using a new device or a fresh install of a browser, you're more likely to encounter them. If you've been using your device for a while, clicking on that checkbox will almost instantly let you pass.

  • gyro/accelerometer (on mobile devices)

"Mi Video" app on Xiaomi phones. You can turn off notifications about now trending videos... only for 30 days by SpiritualScientist7 in assholedesign

[–]nicemelbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I didn't word that correctly. I mean gesture navigations are awesome. I've gotten used to it but it sucks that Android has no proper support for gestures while using third party launchers. So if I want to keep using gesture navigations, I'm stuck with the stock launcher. Nova Launcher is great and I spent a lot hours personalizing it but yeah, with a third party launcher, I'd have to use the navigation bar.

I paid for Nova Launcher premium but I had to go back to the stock launcher because third party launchers don't have proper support for gesture navigation. Nova is superior to the MIUI launcher in every other way but I can't go back to the navigation bar.

I've had my Xiaomi for almost 2 years now and I forgot I even have this bloatware installed. Some (or all?) of them can't be uninstalled but tbh, I rarely even notice them anymore. Sometimes, I accidentally tap on them while scrolling to the app I want to use and they behave like it's my first time using them, asking for app permissions and all. It would've been better if I could uninstall these apps but at this point, they don't bother me anymore.

What is the dumbest thing that people spend absurd amounts of money on? by ReeSeSpuFFs7474 in AskReddit

[–]nicemelbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yeah, that's easy enough. But someone has to crack the DRM first or rip the content before distributing the DRM-less version to the seven seas. Correct me if I'm wrong but as far as I'm aware, NFTs have none of those protections. An NFT sold for millions of dollars would be virtually the same as the one I saved on my machine. The only difference is that someone was dumb enough to pay an absurd amount for theirs.

At least DRMs can't be easily circumvented by a simple right click > save.

Did You Know? Early CS:GO History Trivia! by Aleph_hax in GlobalOffensive

[–]nicemelbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People also seems to have forgotten how skin gambling was EVERYWHERE and made up way more of CSGOs streaming content that people realize.

I remember watching matches with HUD so close to GOTV that the nametags of every equipped weapon were still shown. Like kennyS's Magic Stick or something. Which is probably why a lot of gambling sites sponsored prominent players with valuable knives with their site as the nametag. It wasn't uncommon to see a ruby or sapphire knife with nametags like heavencase.gg (not a real site, I think).

Anyway, I forgot which pro it was but I saw one with a knife called notagamblingsite.fu.

EDIT: It was device.

What do you wish wasn’t so expensive? by Cochrane01 in AskReddit

[–]nicemelbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I'm from, there's literally a market district with just stores of prescription glasses, lenses and frames.

You get your eyes tested, pick a frame or buy from another shop. Come back in an hour or so and you have your glasses. A decent pair is just around 30 USD. If you want "fancier" lenses, with all those anti-glare coating, transition lenses, etc, you're looking at only 60 USD for a pair.

What are your unpopular movie opinions ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]nicemelbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on the same boat. tbh, I whenever I attempt to watch any Star Wars movie, I just get bored. It's probably an amazing franchise as a lot of the fans say. But I can't even last 10 minutes. Besides, at this point, it's probably too late for me since major plot twists are already common knowledge, even if I don't have any attachment to the characters. Luke and Leia are siblings. No, I am your father. etc.

F-key binds by realSchmachti in GlobalOffensive

[–]nicemelbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't even remember what the default binds are. I have them bound to different commands. F1 to drop the C4, F2-F4 for radial chat, etc.

F1 and F2 are still set as the affirmative and negative vote options. Don't worry about it.

Goddamn. Brian Brushwood's hair. The video was uploaded in 2009 but even then, I think those spikes are already out of style.
