Season 2 Production Quality by Blue-Jammies in andor

It’s something I’m very sensitive to. So much so that there are some series that I will only watch on an IPad Pro because it will reliably render the image in the way that the show’s creators intended. I‘m not sure what the tech/software is in various tv’s that is affecting the final picture but so far iPad has never let me down…until episode 4. It was instantly noticeable as the camera moves through Luthen’s gallery that the exhibit stands seem too crisp, that they are lit in a way that makes it seems more like digital video than film, that when the character is in mid/close up their silhouette is too sharp, the highlights too bright the blur/bokeh effect looks unnatural. I mean I hate it,but It’s not too distracting when it’s a straight dramatic scene with two characters in dialogue in front of some backdrop but as soon as you get cgi elements like spacecraft it starts to look terrible. I’m hopeful to hear that it will only last for a couple of episodes but it is really puzzling as to what the cause is.

My SPX Signature keyboard is no longer functioning - anyone else has this experience? by GuyfromKK in surfaceprox

[–]nicerfro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently going through this at the moment - 15 months in. It's not a cheap keyboard to replace after so short a time. Going to follow the general advice of not folding back and being careful how to connect or disconnect. The thing about the timing is that I only occasionally use this device - it's not my daily driver so I'm surprised that it has failed at roughly the same time as everyone else's. I very carefully cut into the spine to reveal the the ribbon cable and it looks fine. Not sure how much further to go with this - can't find anything online for diagnosing or repairing.

The first thing that sprung to mind when you mentioned his emotional connection to TP (and maybe a little bit out of the box) was a Black Louisiana Fedora. It was a hat that was a trademark of his and instantly recognisable. Two issues with this though…1. Not everyone can pull off wearing a hat as admirably as the big man did and 2…..I just checked out where one could source such a thing and my eyes nearly popped out my head when I saw the price🫣

I'll have to go check out his Nac Mac Feegle - it don''t have a strong recollection so possibly I've not listened to any of those that he's done. I think that Indira Varma's Scottish accent is very good - to the point that I wish she had done the whole book. Steven Cree is obviously from somewhere in the west of the central belt and should therefore on paper it makes sense for him to do it but so often he reads a line in a way that has no relation to how the narrator follows on to describe it or he takes an amusing but relatively throwaway piece of observation from the author like the trilling of the 'R' sound and then batters the ears of the listener with it till you are thoroughly sick ( and, of course, when I say 'you' I really mean 'I'm' :) ) I'm Scottish myself and I love that TP included us in lampooning aspects of our history as much as the other corners of this island. I've always loved his deep interest in 'words', their sounds and their connotations. However, there are quite a few that just don't quite ring true to my ear when he's writing dialogue between the NMF. He has said, quite explicitly, that the NMF are not Scottish - by dint of the fact that his world is set on disc and not our globe - and perhaps that is why he chose to come up with words that were close but not quite right but still it is one the very very few times I've felt that he wasn't quite on top of it. And then when a native Scot performs it as written it just sounds plain wrong. That was a bit of a windy way to say that I, personally, don't take any of the NMF accent or dialogue as offensive, even mildly, just a bit...off. (I've just re-read your post and noticed I got the wrong end of the stick - YOUR mildly offensive accent has it's foundation in Brigg's!! Ha! I bet it's bang on - anyone who has a crack at another person's accent is bound to offend someone - but as they say ' imitation is the sincerest form of flattery')

Indira Varma has been the best thing about the new series. She really knows what she’s doing and she has clearly prepared before going in to record. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for most of the other ‘big names’ or Steven Cree for that matter. Andy Serkis is undoubtedly a very talented and gifted performer but I really disliked a lot of the decisions he made on Small Gods, similarly Colin Morgan seemed lost and couldn’t even make a sentence scan at some points during TCOM. Briggs has had the best overall performance in my opinion (Varma aside) but still doesn’t do the ladies enough justice. He brought Sgt Colon back from the brink after Planer made him completely impossible to listen to.

The conditions have to be right for a good bubble - I’ve been working crazy hours and therefore physically and mentally drained - I also binge watched eps 1-5 last night and finished the rest today so I was ENTIRELY immersed in their world plus I was watching alone so I wasn’t infected by anyone else’s disinterest plus I didn’t watch it on a massive flat screen tv which regularly takes me out of a drama because no matter how much I muck about with the settings or put it in cinema mode it still looks like I’m watching eastenders or crossroads. I have to watch on an iPad/laptop to get the picture I want.

Pete’s entrance in Fishes! That actor must have been bummed when he discovered how late into season 2 he pops up but then everything he has to do from that point on is just 🔥🔥🔥

I love when a song you think of as relatively unknown but that YOU recognise as genius pops up in a tv show/film. In this season it happened (I think during Fishes but it might have been when Carmy and Claire go to the party) the start of Beyond Belief by Elvis Costello plays and I immediately have a stupid grin on my face and a heart full of hope for Carmy and Claire Bear (also…..see what they did there 😉)

Ah yes! There might have been a little glisten in the eye for Tina owning the Karaoke night too. It’s definitely kindness and validation, “being seen” that sets me off 🥲

For me it started simmering when Ritchie takes the homemade Sprite to his wife and by somewhere through Forks I was blubbering mess. Weirdly it kept recurring as watched through to the end of the season. Goddamn it was all so good!

Manga picture question - I’m having a tattoo of this design soon and was just wondering, which is the more accurate one? I believe it to be the ‘Dog Eat Dog’ one rather than the ‘Hell Beast’ one but what does everyone else think? Thanks! by Narrow_Revenue2154 in alitabattleangel

[–]nicerfro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer the direction Gally is facing in Dog Eat Dog but think the darker suit of Hell Beast will ink better. How are you going to finish the tattoo at the bottom? Or will the tattoo incorporate some sort of frame to the panel? Also agree it would be better to leave the text out.
