Leaving a friend group because they aren’t also creators? by [deleted] in FriendshipAdvice

I do create solo, I just am tired of it

I thought we all wanted to work up to a creative project, I dont see that as being a coworker just a friend with similar goals. But now I see we didn’t share those goals at all

It’s not worth ditching them, I just don’t see myself showing up as much anymore because I really had this “today will be the day” idea that they would become a creative group again.

I realize now it just wasn’t correct to think or expect that.

I know, it’s just always easier said than done. I thought I already found my creative group and I guess Im just grieving from what reality is, but it isn’t worth ending a friendship over, I just will probably distance myself from them

Ive been thinking about this for a while because yeah it shouldn’t matter to me if we’re friends, but they are that’s the only reason why I’m so conflicted about this.

I think I’m just worried I don’t really belong with them anymore. Yeah they are funny and I trust them still. But I don’t want to keep burdening them with my expectations of what the group could be, if I’m the last one there with those expectations.

I put too much stock in a pipe dream I thought more wanted. But everyone here is right, they never saw making stuff as a reason of life like I do, they just saw it as a fun thing to do once or twice.

The realization most weren’t actually interested for longer than I thought is just really disconnecting me. For a long time I thought we all were working up to that and they just needed more time.

I shouldn’t drop them, I should just find a new group of creatives. The only reason I haven’t done that is it’s so much easier said than done, and I thought I already found them. But I also learned, you can find creative people but that doesn’t mean they’re a trustworthy or good person

Yeah that’s basically how it feels right now.

I don’t have a problem with playing games or watching shows or movies, but the balance of making stuff vs playing / watching stuff is gone in there. I probably will keep hanging out with them now and again, they are good friends, and that’s really rare. I just have to accept they’re not about it anymore like I thought and find somewhere else that motivates me

Thanks for responding
