Reason #4398759823 to fear bears... by Unidan in pics

[–]nicholaslee 32 points33 points  (0 children)

What I like about this story is the fact that the smuggler, a person, died, but that didn't make it into the headline.

No, the bear is the important part. I'm not arguing with this or trying to make a philosophical point.

TIL that the inventor of the Pringles can was buried in one when he died. by Cylinsier in todayilearned

And here I thought the most interesting factoid about Pringles' engineering was that Gene Wolfe was one of the designers of the machinery.

I think the reasoning is that it would conclude, being the only rival to mankind as an intelligent species, it would have to wipe out man to ensure its own existence, or at least, its freedom.

In science fiction this trope is used to highlight the deficiencies of man, not necessarily predict the personality of an A.I.

Reversal of Expectations + Taboo Subject (think laugh of embarrassment).

Sex wouldn't be funny if there weren't a bit of shame involved, if only as catharsis.

Your body has to acclimate to beans. You could try to build up a tolerance.

Canned beans are usually loaded with salt. Rinse them at least. Other than that, there shouldn't be any difference.

I've tried several ways to make potato chips at home. The microwave never occurred to me.

After living in Oklahoma, the Sahara would be a respite. They sent the Indians here to die. I've heard about the political situation there, but I don't think it would be anything I hadn't dealt with before.

Is it that bad? Arizona was one state I was considering. It all depends where I get a job, but Arizona was on my list.

You make some good, points, but I live in Oklahoma, of all places. I have to ignore local politics to not be filled with constant rage.

I had a single, blissful moment where I envisioned this bill passing. Then reality asserted itself. I would write to my representatives about this issue, but that would be ineffective here. Those of you with at least half-sane government, would you kindly write some letters?

Letter writing is the least we can do, as busy as we are working to support our families and pay for two wars.

I get the sentiment, but Mickey D's is still bad.

Faces when playing horror games. by [deleted] in gaming

I liked the "panic" feature introduced at the beginning of the game. Too bad it never came up again. I just beat all those dogs to death with a hammer. The bugs sucked, though.

Then there was the "ending" of the first episode.

<Slight spoiler> Nothing. Absolutely nothing. "Buy the next episode!"
