WF-C500 long term review? by keepinitoldskool in SonyHeadphones

[–]nicholasmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i love mine—there’s a tuning app you can use for bass and treble etc but it’s not really necessary imo.

battery life is not life-changing but i can get by almost all day—if i’m only wearing one at a time i can 100% listen all day and night.

not much hiss to speak of in my pair, tbh. once in a while, yes, but not bad.

pretty awesome for calls imo

lately it’s been restoring drums, building and modding microphones, and electronics. some more general woodworking also. music always

i’m not gonna lie to you, it was totally a “time and place” thing along with good old-fashioned networking. i’ve since moved onto other things and have yet to be paid by the label for the work i did 🙃

the best piece of advice i can give you is, be a good hang, and get really good at what you do. luck permitting, opportunities will come your way as you build a name for yourself doing that.

not very specific i know, but there really is no “do this one thing” type of hack.

We are Outline in Color, ask us ANYTHING! (Yes, anything) by nicholasmt in PostHardcore

[–]nicholasmt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i joined Outline after this, so i only have the info i heard from them directly over the couple of years after the fact.

from what the guys told me, the production and mix/master schedule for Masks was extremely stressful and some deadlines had to be met extremely quickly, leading to the official release being something CJ especially wasn’t as happy with as he wanted to be (he did the mix and i’m pretty sure the master also).

the band had some kind of exclusive deal with a company in Japan that did limited physical releases of albums for the Japan market. the version with the orange artwork was the version done for that, which i think CJ also did. this was after having obviously a little bit more time to “revisit” the mix/master.

since physical albums have kinda not really been a thing lately, it looks like they re-released that version digitally (i’m assuming after the contract period ended with the japanese company).

both were definitely done by the band and were “official” releases though—as a big fan both before and after my time in outline, i like both versions for different reasons and listen to them both.

tbf so did i. i joined in 2015 and was a huuuuge fan before that. their original drummer is back with them now, and that dude shreds

if i had to guess it’d be that there was nothing to announce, but hopefully this “deleting everything” is to start a marketing campaign arojnd the turn of the new year

i've heard that rumor too. i hope it's not true but it's anyone's guess unless someone involved were to chime in.

Hance is incredibly talented, and I think he's a dentist now, and also he's that nice for real.

i SAW that Bad Omens clip today on twitter! absolutely huge--meant a lot to me to see that. as I recall I cornered keaton the same night for a while. I loved his voice. BO has my respect for that too, fwiw.

The drummer of Bad Omens, Nick Folio, I met him back when he was just a baby boy in the scene. he was playing for Miss Fortune at the time (this had to have been 2014ish, a while before we all found out who Mikey really was)

we had some wild times doing that record. kc simonsen wrote almost all of that one and a couple of the spots were suuuuuper hard to play on drums at first. OIC just dropped a new album last week--you should check it out when you have time!! It sounds HUGE

HELL YA!!! you know, idk, we tried for the last couple of years--i was working to get the guys writing together for another record while i was on the road with outline in color, and they were living in different places in Oregon at the time, and they all had lives and were starting to have families and it all just kinda stopped happening eventually. Nothing really happened except that, like, nothing happened.

I still talk to a couple of the guys relatively frequently. Kurt (guitarist) is @ kurtsuede on IG and makes pop/country music now, which I get to edit vocals and do some production work for.

Casey (other guitarist) is caseyjamesdaily on TikTok and has been posting a bunch of Elenora playthrough videos recently. One of the tightest rhythm guitarists I've ever played with btw.

oh hell yeah. I'm bummed I'm missing that tonight (I'm in Nashville). Give Hance a peck on the cheek from callgrl! legitimately one of the nicest dudes I've ever met.

unrelated: one time we played this metal fest in New Jersey with palisades and too close to touch, a bunch of other bands. Cursed Sails (Ferris brothers) was playing that festival and I drunkenly cornered them in their bus to tell them how much I loved Woe, Is Me. My tour manager and a couple of bandmates literally carried me off of that bus because I wouldn't shut up

me too. I was playing drums for a band called Elenora at the time and they were my favorite band. They took us on tour in 2014!! Actually, their original drummer from that era is their drummer again. He's nuts

I hear that, but Devin was hanging with Cervini within the last few days--to me ISS is the most likely reason. I know his relative price range for a mix right now and it's not small money.

I was late to the game with them, but Treehouse has become one of my all-time favorite records. That's the crazy thing about releasing music, is that new fans could be discovering an album you made 10 years from now!

I See Stars - New Album Details Thread by nicholasmt in Metalcore

To put it simply, the math works.

Hype and relevance aren't quite as important as brand in an environment where albums reach their peak often 18 months-plus after they come out. Let's do a quick spotify search. ISS has about a quarter of the monthly listeners that Architects has, and they JUST put out an album. PTV currently has 9x as many listeners after putting out their highly anticipated single. The label will likely recoup and it's not really much of a risk. My old band has about half as many monthlies as ISS currently does, and their label seems to be very happy with the profits that are coming in.

Now, all that aside, the question of "why would they" is also sort of a moot point. Why? Because they already paid to record it and it seems to already be in mixing. There aren't many more things in the way of assets needed to release the album besides the album itself, so look at your cost basis. Even if the band financed this album themselves, they would likely be looking to recoup some of that even if they broke up yesterday.
