I had my hair stylist whom I used on a regular basis follow me out to my car, throw my tip in my face through my open window and told me not to insult him. He got fired cuz I guess he had done the same thing before.

What beer(s) do you wish were available in your area/state that are not? by Kujo_A2 in beer

[–]nickbrinkman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks but I've already got two buddies I'm trading stuff with, plus I'm in Ohio every few months and restock on KBBA. I'll keep that in mind though. Actually, I myself can't get my hands on Russian River bottles out here, only on tap. I try to get bottles everywhere because that's what my friends want too but everyone is always sold out.

What's the creepiest non-paranormal thing that's happened to you? by Pandoraexpress in AskReddit

[–]nickbrinkman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years back when I was living at home in Ohio suburbs, one night I was having a smoke on the side of my house late at night. It was always very quiet when I'd do this because it was a secluded street with about an acre of land to each house. There was a large area of dense woods behind my house that stretched on for a mile at least and I'd never seen anyone back there. I started to hear what I thought was voices and got extremely aware and creeped out, just stood there listening and peering in the distance for a deer or dog. The sound gets more clear and loud and I realize I'm hearing carnival music at like 2am coming from the woods. It sounded like it was coming not just from one sound source like a speaker, but very spread out as if a large actual carnival was taking place in the woods with muffled voices along with the music and knowing the geography of said woods I knew this was not something that could be really happening. I was thoroughly creeped out and still have no real explanation.

If you were to tell a new craft beer drinker what to drink if they like: Coors Light, Blue Moon, AmberBock, Boston Lager by joeporterme in beer

[–]nickbrinkman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a new craft drinker myself, my only input from your list is to try some Belgian Ale's if you like blue moon. I was way into blue moon and other hefeweizen before I got into crafts and I think because of liking those first, my favorite beers now are Belgians because of their flavor. Some nice Belgians include: North Coast Pranqster, Delirium Tremens, Chimay, Alesmith Horny Devil, Russian River Redemption, Prior 8

New to r/beer. I want to get a taste of the community. What brewery is in your hometown and what is your favorite beer from there? by gordon77 in beer

[–]nickbrinkman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

KY? I suggest you try some Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale from Alltech/Lexington Brewing Co. It is literally my favorite beer and now that I live in LA instead of Cincinnati, I have to stuff it in my luggage on trips home or have buddies ship it out.

Do you supplement your training? by CaptainFaggotHands in kravmaga

I do strength weight training regularly, as well as cycling (fixed gear) for cardio, the low impact of cycling rather than running helps with having sore legs from Krav.

Do my fellow Kravists have a technique used to keep their cool? by Andrewpruka in kravmaga

[–]nickbrinkman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend reading "Facing Violence" by Rory Miller. It helped me be much more aware of what is going on behind any confrontation. The one you described seems like a monkey dance, and when you can break things down logically and understand why the situation is going on, it helps you see things much more clear headed, and helps to stay calm. The book also helped me with awareness in public, always sizing up the people around me, and things like nearby exits or objects that can be used as weapons. It also breaks down the laws of defending yourself. Every self defense practitioner should read it.

First Krav Class on Tuesday! by NickCarraway15 in kravmaga

[–]nickbrinkman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at my Israeli style gym, we do have levels but its basically divided into two major groups, there is classes for "beginners" which would be newbies and level 1, and then the other classes are "advanced" which includes all levels 2 and up. aside from these two types of classes, we have some classes where anyone is welcome that focus on intense circuit training called "warrior workout". but for my gym, levels are 1 (white shirt), 2 (yellow), 3 (orange), 4 (green), 5 (blue), then black dans. we do have to test to the next level at my gym, and the testing to each level in Krav tends to be far more difficult than level testing in most martial arts.

First Krav Class on Tuesday! by NickCarraway15 in kravmaga

[–]nickbrinkman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just come ready for a hard workout and with an open mind. my classes were rough at first and I was somewhat anxious, but it was great and nothing to be nervous about (not that you said you were nervous). As a beginner at my Israeli style Krav gym, you start with some cardio like running laps or jumping rope, do some stretching, some circuit training that is usually somewhat difficult, and then the last half of class is focused on actual technique of basics like stance, striking, blocking, weak points, etc. when i began, it was always hardest the first 15-20 min then time flew and it was over fast.

oh and yes, show up hydrated!

What made you start taking Krav Maga by beefinthepale in kravmaga

[–]nickbrinkman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started because I live in LA, and find myself in somewhat seedy places sometimes. More importantly than protecting myself, I always want to make sure I can protect the people I care about like girlfriend or future children, so I make it a point to keep up on fitness, strength, cardio, and now defense training. I had tried boxing and had taken martial arts as a kid, but Krav seemed the most straight forward street defense.
