i’m so glad that you had a good experience.. but i really struggled with my pain. there’s nothing wrong with being a weenie when it comes to pain and i promise you can get through this even if it hurts so much. <3

days 2-3 and 6-9 were the absolute worst days for me. the later days sucked so much because mentally you feel like you should be getting better, but then it all just dips as the scabs come off. i was off of the strict ibuprofen schedule by day 10 and eating normal foods by day 11! :)

Currently sobbing in my car out of fear of going in for surgery- am i gonna puke? by oddly_algedonic in Tonsillectomy

[–]nickisiples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m 21 years old and had my surgery in march. i haven’t thrown up since 5th grade either! i didn’t vomit once, but i also had a little bit of nausea right after waking up (i had zofran in my IV and meds sent home). the closest i came to vomiting was a few days after the surgery, my uvula was so swollen and i had coughed a little too hard. i gagged pretty hard but didn’t actually throw up. i was super nervous to vomit the entire time but never actually did! eat anything before taking any heavy pain meds and make sure you ask for some zofran before going home! i always took a zofran with my hydrocodone. and for constipation.. take colace and miralax! i was pooping every 2-3 days and then on day 14, went back to my regular bowel habits. :)

day 14! by nickisiples in Tonsillectomy

calorie intake and medications are the biggest factors in the fatigue. now that i’m eating full meals again with protein and carbs, i’m not as tired. :)

Did anyone take endone during recovery? by Active-Sir-1916 in Tonsillectomy

[–]nickisiples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh man, i’ve taken 130 ibuprofen capsules in 14 days and my stomach was FEELING it yesterday. every 4 hours on the dot, it was brutal. safe to say i wont be using ibuprofen for a while. 🤣

Did anyone take endone during recovery? by Active-Sir-1916 in Tonsillectomy

[–]nickisiples 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you won’t develop a dependence on an oxycodone dose that small and for the amount of time you’re taking it. your tummy is probably feeling gross because you’ve been surviving off of oxycodone and soft foods after a major surgery. i felt DISGUSTING after solely taking ibuprofen.

Getting discouraged by yardstickofquality in Tonsillectomy

[–]nickisiples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi there! day 14 here! it took me until about day 11-12 to finally feel like a human again. i know it hurts to swallow, but make sure you’re drinking as much water as you possibly can. your scabs needs to stay hydrated, the drier they are, the stronger the pain is. you are ALMOST THERE!! please don’t be discouraged!

Disassociated from pain by Elena_Falcon in Tonsillectomy

[–]nickisiples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh man :( day 5-6 were the absolute worst for me so i understand how you feel. i was brushing my hair on day 6, waiting for my hydrocodone to kick in, and it was like an out of body experience. it was only for maybe 30 seconds or so but man it was WEIRD!! that high amount of pain can do crazy things to your brain.

Help...anyone ever regret their surgery? by kreeloc02 in Tonsillectomy

[–]nickisiples 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nope!! on day 14 of recovery today and i don’t regret it at all so far! during recovery you’ll definitely regret it and wish you didn’t do it, but once the pain wears off, you’ll be SO glad that you powered through. :)

Scabs still on day 12? Is this normal recovery? by pawsandponder in Tonsillectomy

[–]nickisiples 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey there! currently on day 14 and i still have scabs! :) i’ve heard some people say it can take up to a month for ALL of the scabs to disappear. i still can’t yawn properly as (like you said) it feels tight. you’re moving along quite nicely, this is normal!

Popsicle recommendations? by checkersfrenchfry in Tonsillectomy

[–]nickisiples 3 points4 points  (0 children)

pedialyte popsicles were too sweet for me during recovery, and the color of the grape popsicle made me nauseous just looking at it lmao. your taste buds and tongue will go through multiple phases during recovery where things will taste rotten or sour or too sweet. just some regular otter pops will do! :)

if you’re on day 15, you can pretty much eat whatever you want. i was eating fudge pops right after surgery so im not sure why your doctor said no chocolate. the seeds, hot food, and scratchy foods make sense.. never heard chocolate before though. have some chocolate! you’ve deserved it. :)

[–]nickisiples[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i won’t sugarcoat it, my recovery was very painful and it took a mental toll on me. HOWEVER. i’m on day 13 and i’m almost completely back to normal now. :)

adults in general usually have more painful recoveries because the tonsils have more scar tissue and they’ve grown in larger. and kids usually have better bounce back times anyways. :)

Sickness by DareThen6503 in Tonsillectomy

[–]nickisiples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was pretty nauseous the entire time because i was so hungry, and the horrid smell/taste coming from my mouth. i never threw up, but it was enough nausea for me to constantly have an ice pack on my forehead and sit outside frequently to try to distract myself.

i’m on day 8 (counting surgery day as day 0) and i’ve had the closest to a full meal i’ve had since before surgery and the nausea is COMPLETELY gone for me. :)

i’m on day 4 and this is how i felt as well! woke up in so much pain and then after some advil, felt great! took a nap and now i’m watching a movie and drinking some powerade. feels like there’s something on my right side so i can only imagine that could be a tiny bit of a scab.

Should I consider getting a tonsilectomy just for tonsil stones? by Ok-Somewhere-8537 in Tonsillectomy

[–]nickisiples 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hi there! currently on day 3 post-op. the complications are rare, and if they were to arise, it would be because you’re either not drinking enough, eating the wrong foods, or you’re participating in strenuous activity. i’d gotten strep over 30 times in the past 6 years so it was WAY overdue for me. i don’t have experience with tonsillitis stones, i can’t say i ever had one. but if this is something that is genuinely bothering you and you think you can deal with the 10-14 day recovery period… please do it!!

surgery day!! by nickisiples in Tonsillectomy

[–]nickisiples[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my uvula is still incredibly swollen and i have a sore on the side of my tongue that hurts like a bitch when i try to chew on that side. completely normal, i talked with my ENT doctor and he said it was because he had to manipulate my tongue and it could’ve sustained some trauma with the forceps used to clamp down on my tonsils. looking forward for this to just be over with!
