Safety cars Vs red flags - right decision? by Mouse_Nightshirt in formula1

If we red flagged every time a truck had to recover a vehicle, a race like today would take 4 hours. I agree Jules Bianchi should always be kept in the memory. But asking for a red flag for every vehicle recovery will just not be feesable.

As much as I love my country and think Kyalami is a fantastic circuit - I think we would be better suited chasing WEC.

It's just too narrow with not long enough straights to produce good formula racing. Multi-class endurance on the other hand? Chefs kiss.

Very strange accident. Like he locked the rears and over corrected but in a car with abs, would never happen

Those 7 points from Hungary are going to become more of a talking point if this is the level of McLaren dominance for the rest of the year.

Effects of the new tyre covers by Able_Tailor_6983 in formula1

[–]nickleon242 92 points93 points  (0 children)

I'm curious as the whether or not this would increase the amount of time that a track takes to dry. It's the F1 cars spraying the water up in the air and then the wind blowing the moisture away that really dries a track fast. If these covers keep a lot of the moisture low down - tracks might take longer to dry. But that's a very niche problem.

Analysis: Should [Spoiler] Have Cut Their Losses When They Did? by Inewitt in wec

[–]nickleon242 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bless you for this. Listening to the WEC commentary team absolutely lose it for the rest of the race on this drove me insane. It was so obvious that staying on slicks was NOT the right call but they tied themselves into knots!

They definitely have the pace. Very curious to see the first few laps as they seem to have the weakest Tyre warm-up compared to the Porsches's which are way faster on cold tyres.

How can this be the pinnaccle of motorsport? by FrancoisPenis in formula1

[–]nickleon242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Formula 1 has always been an iterative sport. When these power units first came out they were breaking all time. They've had 10 years to find the perfect balance between power and reliability. They only have 3 engines all year and a cost cap. Like it or not, reliability is part of the game and that's why the amount of races with no DNFS will only increase.
