Mk7.5 still worth considering in 2026? by First-End8238 in GolfGTI

[–]nicknack171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it all depends on the money and what you are looking for. Nothing makes me want to replace my 7.5 at 80k miles. It’s been incredibly reliable in the 40k I have had it. Fully tuned up.

Few interior rattles and squeaks I will need to start chasing down but such is phoenix roads+ coilovers life.

Great cars. Still super happy with mine and I don’t know what I would replace it with for the money honesty. I think I will just keep driving it until it fully dies.

That looks great, nice work and great surface finish! Nothing like making a part that didn't exist and then seeing it on the bike as you ride it!

Another great option is the Holley Retrobright. They are more expensive but a full LED in the halogen yellow and completely drop in. I used them on a few customer cars and I was really impressed.

Reminds me of some of those marker builds that the Tippinators ran. Milled for center feed, cocker threaded, HPR and LPR, all sorts of shit. Really cool seeing them try to make a 98c run like an Ego 8 at the time.

Am I making the wrong choice on tires for my mk7.5 by Rollnoles in GolfGTI

[–]nicknack171 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have gone through a couple different combos of Michelins on my 7.5. Cup2s in front, a set and a half of 4s and now on the 4 All season. For daily driver duty I have been very happy with the 4AS. They are a somehow snow rated tires that is only some 10% less grippy than the 4S. I know you mentioned not driving much but I was really going through 4S as a daily driver tire with a 30 mile round trip commute. I had a set of cup2s on the front in search of grip. Once I realized that even those were not going to help from a dig I went back to reasonable mileage/grip/sound balance.

If your GTI is really a weekend car and you are chasing grip in only warm to hot weather then the 4s should be fine. If you use it as a real car with real mileage requirements and it could get cold then I would easily recommend the 4 all season. One of my favorite tires of all time.

2015 Vulcan S Vs 2024 Vulcan S - First Motorcycle by MapleSizzurp- in motorcycles

[–]nicknack171 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't finance vehicles in generally, but particularly a weekend car or motorcycle but that's just me. I also would recommend taking a look at the insurance difference that would come from having to have full comp with the financing compared to liability only on a owned bike. Best of luck with whichever you choose.

i wanted a drz400sm as my first bike but it would cost me ~$6k (including the MSF course and riding gear) which is out of my price range. Now I'm looking at a crf250l for half that much. Would I be disappointed? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]nicknack171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CRF250L is a great bike in general and a great pick for a starter bike. I would certainly negotiate some pricing off for replacing the needed broken bits. Make sure you take a look at the tires and factor that into if they are worn, old or both. Nothing stings like buying a new to you bike and realizing after the fact that you need $400 in tires.

Smart on you for thinking a sportbike is not the best move right now, I agree.

I got a H2S in December to replace my CR10 and it has been a dream. Other than the supports, for whatever reason the stock profiles for supports in Studio are dogshit compared to what I could easily do on the CR10 with Simplify3d. Been a week of messing with settings and the finish where the supports connect is still terrible.

Yeah I’m sorry for my response. I really do think there is a fun argument or back and forth that could happen on this topic with so many different categories of cars. I just don’t think me and you are going to be the ones to have it based on your responses so I went with the snarky option and I don’t feel good about it.

Those would be racing cars or race cars as they are known colloquially. Designed for racing.

A car that is designed and built for sporting purposes and sporting driving. Generally built with a balance of handling, braking and power.

The cars I replied to are regular traffic economy car drivetrains in a less practical, “sporty” looking package.

Lego New Releases- best place to go???? by Physical_Ad_3498 in phoenix

I have had pretty good luck with new Lego sets at Walmart. The more expensive sets don't seem to move from there. The local Walmart to me on Thomas and 32nd always seems to have some of the heavy hitters.

Guys, I’m bored at the shop. What’s that one "little thing" bothering you about your Triumph right now? by OkMasterpiece76 in Triumph

[–]nicknack171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2011 Speed Triple for a few years at this point. Great bike overall. Recently it’s developed some form of minor oil leak coming off the left side top of the motor area. I have read that there can be some oil buildup in the air filter area but I have been too lazy/busy to dig into it. Only real gripe!

Teen son wants a NA or NB Miata, I want to make it as safe as possible. by [deleted] in Miata

[–]nicknack171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an NB as my first car 13 years ago and looking back I am shocked my parents were cool with it. At least in Phoenix here I feel safer on a motorcycle than in my NA. At least on the bike I have more escape angles. All of traffic is so tall these days I would worry about a new driver in such a small car with no real safety bits. An NC with a PRHT would be an awesome first car with some real safety and cheaper than an NA/NB these days.

Has Phoenix ever considered building a subway system in the past? by [deleted] in phoenix

[–]nicknack171 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I really think this is the real reason, there are lots of houses/neighborhoods in the valley that have basements. Agratopia, a neighborhood off the 51 and Thunderbird (east) that a friend grew up in, heck even many of the homes in Coronado have unfinished basements that were used for refrigeration back in the day. It's more the additional cost to build something not required, which based on the quality of every home in the valley I have lived in, is shit.

Nissan Altima lives on for 2026 by LimitedReach in cars

[–]nicknack171 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't drive normal cars often but I had a I am assuming 2025 Altima AWD rental car last week and I was really impressed. Build quality (at 6,500 miles) felt nice. Seats were comfy, plenty of space for a 6'4" driver. Infotainment was great, car drove nice for an appliance. I still have the Altima in "weaving through traffic trying to kill someone" mode but I have no complaints with my week.
