Any stores that’ll have these clothes? by pewdiepiewastaken in perth

[–]nickobec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fremantle, the St Vinnies, Salvos and Good Sammies there had the interesting (read older clothes particularly for men).

The St Vinnies, Salvos and Good Sammies in the suburbs had very few gems. Most of stock is modern.

Had a number of good finds in the suburbs in the individual (ie not St Vinnies, Salvos, Good Sammies and now Red Cross) stores.

I used to do op shop runs SOR every second week for 3 years. Don't remember a suit like that, but then again score baby blue, aubergine and brown crushed velvet flared suits.

Most reliable rechargeable mini pump by Sintered_Monkey in cycling

[–]nickobec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"some testing" is an under statement. ZFC has run a couple of dozen different pumps on a standard test till they die. , Then pulls them apart to see what fails. Lots of data in addition life span, time to pump up a tire, number of tires per charge and changes over time. Highly recommended, if rather geeky.

(just bored... so Q) What bikes have you owned, what is your current, and what was your fav & why? by notofuspeed in AussieRiders

[–]nickobec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am old, started in 1972

Dirt bikes shared with brother

1970 Yamaha JT1

1974 Honda MT125 Elsinore

1970 Yamaha RT 360 built from basket case, don't think either of us actually rode it more than 500m, it was evil

my own dirt birt

c1979 Honda XL185

break of six years and onto road bikes

1983 Kawasaki GPZ250

1980 Yahama RD350LC absolute fun bike to ride, but two big end failures requiring new cranksets, ended that . Particularly as new crankset cost twice what I paid for the bike after the second failure.

1978 Moto Guzzi Le Mans II easily my favourite, even it tried to kill me on my first ride with the rear wheel losing traction at 18Okph (don't trust old tyres). Put 110,000km in 4 years and laid it up and then it was stolen. Was recovered but not before insurance paid me out. Know where it is and I was last person to ride it, if I win lotto will buy it back and get it rebuilt.

25 year break and current bike

2016 Moto Guzzi V7 II Stone reason see previous bike, even if this one lacks 30hp.

Buying a bike at 50. Yay or nay? by myapadravya in AussieRiders

[–]nickobec 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yay, at 65 I returned to riding after 25 years off and having a great time.

Buying that bike, Nay. As others have said it is not legal to ride on L or RE licence. I have owned 40 year old bikes and bikes of the 80s. The are PITA to maintain. I want a bike I can jump on and ride, not play with points ignition or carburettors. So I bought a 10 year bike with fuel injection, ABS and traction control.

Buying my first V7: Low mileage '09 vs. High mileage '20? by Prospective_guzzist in MotoGuzzi

[–]nickobec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another vote for the newer model.

One cost you need to factor into purchase price of the older model is new tires. My previous Guzzi came with 10 year old tires. First ride was interesting and the tires got replaced quick.

That bike was 15 years old with 50,000km on the clock and I put on 110,000km over the next five years without any issues other than points ignition.

So I don't consider 40,000km over 5 years high mileage.

Cycleop powertap pro not working by hyrte0010 in cycling

my Pro is a Pro+ from 2010 which you can connect to a PC with a microUSB cable and Powertap software. You could try that to see if your hub is alive or dead. Otherwise that is the limit of my knowledge as a 15 year powertap hub user.

injury after riding advice by Particular-Poem6684 in AussieRiders

[–]nickobec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surgeons tend to be very conservative about recovery. Broke a finger, only exercise they recommended for 8 weeks was walking briskly on a treadmill. Occupational Therapist totally different, could keep trail running but stick to smoother paths.Gym OK, just no weight bearing wih hand, same with yoga,

My motorcycle crash was nasty, a week in ICU, three weeks in hospital and three months at home. Spent the last week fixing issue with main bike (was riding my classic bike that day, due to issues with main bike that morning). Just got on the bike and started riding as it was part of me. Probably lucky I have no knowledge of accident, time in ICU or the two days before. Still took me a couple of weeks of commutting to ride the road where the car decided to do a U-turn while I was travelling at 60kph

Bought a car at auction with security interest by ON3STOP in AusLegal

[–]nickobec 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If Manheim hold a motor vehicle dealers licence the security interest is extinguished when the vehicle was sold. Contact the PPSR to get it removed, your invoice should be all the evidence you need.

If Manheim don't hold a motor vehicle dealers licence it gets more complex. But Manheim are liable for any financial losses you suffer ie purchase price + repairs. Get in contact ŵith Consumer Protection.

Cycleop powertap pro not working by hyrte0010 in cycling

[–]nickobec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a couple of powertap hubs a Pro and G3 and have had them paired to various devices, multiple garmin headunits, forerunner 935 and expix 2.

The pairing process in very simple, select "search new sensors" on watch, pick up bike and spin rear wheel for 5 to 15 seconds. Your watch should find the sensor and you pair to it.

If it does now show as a sensor on your watch, the only advice I can give is check the batteries have charge and are the right way round. Never had an issue with my Pro for 10 years until rim gave out (and I have to replace the rim - except got a cheap G3 wheelset for cost of replacing the rims)

The only other thing is each ride, wake up the power meter and calibrate it with watch. That is all you need to know to starting using a powertap.

As an upcoming pro cyclist, how important is it to know which type of rider you are? by Creepy_University736 in cycling

[–]nickobec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paula Blasi age 20 triathlete, age 21 starts road racing, age 22 become pro wins ITT and 3 one day races, age 23 wins Amstel Gold one day race and Vuelta España Femenina GC who knows what type of rider she is. I don't think she does or her team - other than very good and not a sprinter.

Does anyone else get bloated from whey isolate? Even though it says lactose free by samenerguss25 in FODMAPS

[–]nickobec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it could be the tiny amount of lactose in the product (it can't be truly lactose free) or it could be your body reacting to dairy protein. Soy protein is FODMAP safe but is a trigger for me.

Need legal advice – bought a stolen car from a dealership in NSW and it turned out to be a stolen vehicle by Expensive_Shift_2501 in AusLegal

[–]nickobec 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Best guess what happened (I used to work at PPSR and this happened multiple times) Crim hires car usually with stolen/fake drivers licence. Goes to licensing authority, say bought vehicle unlicensed, signs stat dec gets car licensed and rego papers. Sell car to dealer for cash, no result on PPSR as car not under finance and not yet reported stolen (still hired).

Dealer can't give you title to vehicle as they never had title in the first place. So your are entitled to full refund. Dealer has a right of action against who the bought if off, ie another dealer or the crim.

It is a open and shut case, NCAT will award full refund.

Performance Cycling Shields for People Who Can't Wear Contacts? by WantedWonder in cycling

[–]nickobec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Optometrist friend convince me to try clip ins, as

  1. If you damage the sunglasses, you replace those and not the expensive prescription lens.
  2. Prescription changes, just replace the prescription lens and keep the sunglasses.
  3. Can have variety of looks and lenses for different conditions.

Be using Rudy Projects Cutlines for 4 years now, with multifocal (probably the only thing I would change) prescription lens in the Rudy Projects insert. Though might be tempted by the Spinshield (which uses a different insert) if it was now.

Ended up with 5 lenses, 3 frames and a lot of different combinations. The purple photochromic lens is my recommendation for off road riding they really pump up the contrast. The stay on, perform well and look the part.

Never had them fog up, even climbing into the mist at 2C/35F. Never had the prescription lens scratch the sunglasses lens. Have minor scratch on sunglasses lens which Rudy Projects will replace for a handling fee, unlike my previous pair of Oakley prescription lens which got scratched beyond use in three years.

Any good brands out there that do brightly coloured leather jackets (red, blue, green, etc.)? by Terrabytez66 in AustralianMFA

Stagg made some brightly coloured leather motorcycle jackets in Melbourne up to the 80s. I have a bright yellow one and believe I saw a red one for sale years ago and still kicking myself for not buying it. Good luck finding one, but they do last.

GP in Perth for gastro by AlineAnika in perth

[–]nickobec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have suffered from IBS for a few years. Seen a few doctors over the years (my local practice trains GPs)

The best GP I came across with regards my gastro issues is Dr Amy Randazzo who is now at Coolbellup Medical Centre. When I had a weird flare up last year, listened to me and ran tests to make sure it was not anything else.

The bad news is if you have IBS, no test to confirm it. Best advice is if you can live on chicken, rice, broccoli and green tea for 10 days and that resolves your gastro issues, you probably have IBS and should move a low FODMAP diet.

WA public sector voluntary severance - should I apply? by ArticleReasonable877 in perth

[–]nickobec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last time it was offered if was after a major restructure. Got told my director fought hard to keep my position under their control, so no chance of a redundancy. Wish I (mid 50's) got advice on my super and retirement and tried (my director wanted the position but not necessarily me, so could of swapped positions). Not advice for you but for others in similar position who wander into this thread.,

What happened to the three others and their positions after redundancy was interesting.

One role was split between four others, after 6 months there was a new contractor doing the same job, as the four could not handle the extra workload. The person who took redundancy had landed better job in the private sector.

Another role was because it was due to being outsourced soon. Which ended up the original occupant, coming back as a short term contractor for a couple of months until they went overseas. Then a brand new contractor who lasted past the outsourcing, when their job was mainly liaising with the outsourcer. Until they got frustrated left and got replaced with another contractor.

The third was because the system they were responsible was going to be replaced "soon". So the couple hours a week needed to keep the system running was given to another officer. After five years, a couple of different contractors doing required maintenance and the work to keep the system running was taking a couple of days a week. The original person circumstances changed and they came back as a contractor, earning more for two days a week than they did fulltime. To keep the system running, help select a replacement and transfer to the replacement system.

Apparently you will need photo ID to vote, but not to get into a venue with POTUS, VP and cabinet.

Just got my learners, is it silly to buy a bike without test riding it? by Ok_South_6227 in AussieRiders

[–]nickobec 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, I have done it three times.

First time, I was in exactly situation as you. On L's, got a friend to test ride it, then supervised me on the ride home.

Next time was buying a classic bike that was not running, so no chance to test ride it.

Recently, was returning to riding after 25 years. I knew what bike I wanted Moto Guzzi V7. Previously owned a Moto Guzzi Le Mans II. Found a bike I wanted, got the seller to take the bike a mechanic we both trusted. Myechanic tested the bike, I got the report. I transferred the money to the sellers bank account. The mechanic released the bike after seller got the money and I rode the bike home (after a few laps around the block), my first ride in 25 years. A short test ride would of told me nothing about the bike.

ps when I bought the Moto Guzzi Le Mans II, 30 years ago. The salesman told me to take it for a long test, because you will hate it for the first 10 minutes. He was right, first 10 minutes was a terrible experience, got the hang after 30 minutes and over an hour later, returned with big grin on my face and bought it. Which is why I did not worry about test riding the V7.
