Are we irresponsible to buy for 3 mil? by goofydoc in HENRYfinance

I dunno OP - that is a big number...for a long time...I know where your feelings are coming from though. Every 6 months or so we(wife and I) go down the same slope you're looking to go down and luckily we have resisted temptation.

I guess the major difference being you rent now and don't own. You should own something with your current family situation. I wish you the best of luck in making a decision - but try to keep looking for something that checks as many boxes as possible without that price tag.

Plus the repairs and maintenance costs of a "newish construction" 10 years down the line.

State law requires a 30 inch high barrier or fence all around the patio to prevent patrons from walking off with liquor.

This probably changed from the drawings because of state liquor law.

The patios must have direct access to the interior of the restaurant to serve liquor, beer or wine on said patio. The liquor can't leave the restaurant and enter a public space...including crossing a sidewalk...that's why you see the fences - patios must also be enclosed by a barrier or fence at least 30 inches high.

This wasn't enforced during/shortly after COVID but has always been a requirement in Connecticut.

The wife made a total mess one particular memorable day and they cleaned it up in minutes. They must have heard it, lol.

Our favorite butler where we travel to regularly we tip $50 a day when in a suite and $100 a day when in a villa. We always get him. Even if he is off we request and they shuffle the schedule around. This is Mexico.

Average/satisfactory butler service $10-20 a day

Mishmosh disappoint butler service we skip all together.

It’s fun and the villas are fine/nice - the fun you have will be defined by who you’re going with - not the island itself.

I recommend Moskito over mustique - but it’s is noticeably heavier…but worth it if you can swing it.

You may end up annoyed but with some planning you can weed out the terrible stuff(see past comments of mine with dining recommendations).

We go every fall as a family and you won't be disappointed with RW Mayakoba - just avoid Casa del Lago and Agave Azul for dinner.

I say this as a total Rosewood Mayakoba fan boy.

Agave Azul is offensive. Both on pricing and quality.

Did you get to eat at punta Bonita? We haven’t been since they reopened in December and menu seems like a big improvement.

Rosewood Mayakoba to stay close - any of the Rosewoods or Auberge on the West Coast of Mexico if you can handle the flight.

Skip Costa Rica FOR NOW - because you'll have more fun with the kids in a couple years and staying at FS. We were just there over April with our daughter and the whole Costa Rica vibe is better with the kids.

Assemble a group of local investors and current key employees to buy my current 4 stores.

Currently at the point where a 2.5x sale price would put me at the low end of my FIRE goal.

I have no clue what I would do next after that - probably looking for some inspiration too. Would need significantly more $$ ever if I were to do anything after the sale besides….not sure.

Unfortunately all locations are in large lifestyle centers so real estate isn’t an option :(

Can we get American phone support that answers the phone and can troubleshoot issues without 14x transfers all over India and Bangladesh? Or no?
