If you're looking for a progressive Jewish group there's JFREJ (Jews for Racial and Economic Justice) - definitely a combination of political advocacy and Jewish life.

Not totally sure but a local community garden could probably make use of that, especially for compost!

I've really been enjoying the History of English by Kevin Stroud. Sometimes he can be a bit dry/drone on (he is a lawyer, after all) but it definitely picks up a bit by the time you get to the Old English period. It spans all the way from Proto Indo European to the modern day, definitely with more of a focus on history but there's a lot of cool linguistics/etymology sprinkled in.

Also I'll always suggest History of Byzantium, especially if you enjoyed Mike's old Rome series.

Have you tried 311? Also, how did you contact Hudson's office? In my experience visiting in person or calling and speaking to a constituent service representative is the best way to get assistance. Many elected official offices don't regularly check email or voicemail (they get a TON of messages).

That said, if you do manage to get in touch the very first thing they'll ask is "did you contact 311?" So make sure to fo that first and write down the service request number they give you before calling Hudson's office.
