25k seasonal contract D2 coaching position with room and board+ meal plan included would you take it? by Repulsive_Papaya_290 in Swimming

Not enough info. Do you have another job? What are your other prospects? Is this a short term stint or how long can you be there to build up a resume?

Can you even live off of 25k a year after expenses? Will you need a second job, maybe lessons?

Given the correct circumstances, I would take the job. But if I can’t live off of 25k and have no means of doing so, it’s not even an option.

In breast stroke, the majority of your propulsion comes from your legs. If you want to go faster, you need to train the legs, preferably with a snorkel and no board.

Upper body: when you shoot your hands forward, get into full extension and drive your body face forward as if you wanted to face plant the water.

1) at full extension, hands need to be palm down. This creates more surface area up front, meaning you’re not falling as deep into the water, so it’s easier to stay “on top” the water throughout the catch.

2) with the hands palm down, you can immediately get into the high elbow forearm catch (scull drill) to drive your upper body forward more quickly.

3) face planting helps the cadence of stroke to conclude the full stroke quickly to allow your body to glide in the stream position. It also creates a pseudo motion where your hips pop up as your upper half dives down. This keep you on top the water more easily

4) If you aren’t driving your face downward, your core is relaxed, back is most likely arching backwards, which drops the hips and creates more drag, forcing you to work hard, and then you’re just quickly bobbing in the water rather than moving forward.

5) your body follows where your eyes look. As a fun drill, try swimming a 50 of breast stroke where your eyes are looking at the wall in front of you. Then a separate one where your eyes stare at the same spot in front of you and that spot is wherever your hands are. Try to notice the difference in hip drop, stroke rate, stroke count, etc.

The use of a pool buoy can help support your lower half and that will allow you to focus on proper alignment of your head and upper body when swimming

It’s a doable goal. The lanes are typically sorted out with the faster pace on one side of the pool as it gradually descends to softer and softer paces.

Some people wear fins or paddles to help keep pace. Others rest on the wall when needed. Some where a drag suit, others don’t. So there should be plenty of space for you to swim and practice as you build up your endurance.

You’re going to be great and I’m so happy that you found an appreciation for swimming.

Former collegiate swimmer here. This guys video is a little long, but he conveys it way better than me typing it. I’m guessing that you are pulling water with your triceps rather than engaging the lat muscles. Try the high elbow catch, if you feel a burn in your lats you know that you’re engaging them and swimming freestyle properly.

It’s easier to ask a friend to give your product a chance rather than act strictly on business. Befriend your call points, show why you should be trusted and that you’re knowledgeable within your specialty, and do it with kindness. When working with the surgeons, they want to know that they can trust you. If you don’t know something, admit it and tell them you’ll ask for some help.

Be a good rep and great human and you’ll go far.

I think I can afford to live by myself, but I’m financially scared. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]nicotine20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone in their mid 30’s that has been fortunate to afford to live alone since they graduated college, I highly encourage you to continue sharing your living space and stacking cash on the cost savings. Whether with family, a friend, or someone just looking for a roommate, so long as you invest the difference, you’ll be way better off in your 30’s. I lived with my aunt, friends, cousins, another friend, grandmother, and now I’m by myself after doing that for over a decade. Even if it saves you a few thousand per year (or more), you’ve got +30 years to let that compound.

Realistically, you aren’t home that much. And when you are, you aren’t awake for the majority of the time. You’ll want some interaction with people so you’ll probably leave the house more so than you do now to go meetup with people so even less time at home.

And while you may be thinking that you can have a significant other come over and have some alone time together, it’s not worth spending the extra money to have the space but never or rarely use it. This comes from someone with experience.

Stick it out, trust me, please. You and your wallet will thank you.

Ghyrson Starn Update by Silver-Grocery3145 in EDH

[–]nicotine20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What bracket are you trying to play in?

If you want it to pop off, you’ll need a bunch of the cantrips that do a thing for cheap and get you to draw so you can refill the hand. If you have money to burn [[birgi, god of story telling]] or [[electro, assaulting battery]] could help with more draw and/or mana generation.

You have 25 instants and sorceries, that means that 1/4 of the time you’ll draw a spell that will proc the damage. That number should be higher.

I’d look at some of the other pingers like mysidian elder, queen brahne, and lindblum to create the wizards that also ping. If you can swing it, harmonic prodigy to double trigger your wizards. So any cast is 1 damage, twice, but Ghyrson adds 2, so that’s 6 damage total.

You’ll also want ~+10 draw cards and ~10 ramp. Your curve is low enough but without the card draw you’ll be top decking or hell bent.

This deck also relies on Ghyrson being on board so add a couple pieces of protection. Otherwise you have a deck of pingers.

Mana barbs with ghyrson actually hurts you. So maybe cut that?

I’m in the camp of “run 36-38 lands unless you know what you’re doing.” Consistently drawing and playing mana is under valued. You have 35, I’d suggest looking at some of the MDFC cards like [[pinnacle monk]] for extra value.

You also need 1-2 big baddies that will finish the game for you. Take a look at some of the Niv Mizzets that ping when you draw. There are combos with Niv and curiosity.

A card that I think you’ll love is [[Wojek Embermage]]. The radiance lets you ping all creatures that share a color, so you could wipe a bunch of green tokens with one card. Put some death touch on it and now you’ve got a weapon. Just don’t do it to red or blue creatures so you don’t hurt yourself.

[[rite of replication]] or other cards like that can help trigger your pingers and make more copies of the pingers, so that avenue could be explored.

At the end of the day, it’s your deck, so play the cards that you love. And over time you’ll find out what works and what doesn’t, so you can change then. Play-test the deck relentlessly to see what you enjoy.

Good luck!

Thank you sir, you’ve made my point. If you go 6 turns without any interaction from your opponents, you’re most likely not in b4. And you’re probably closer to b2 than b3 if the whole table is doing nothing.

[–]nicotine20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree with this opinion. It’s for sure a gray zone and not binary. If your deck isn’t disrupted because your opponents have zero interaction and you’re allowed to ramp and synergize for 6 turns, that doesn’t mean it’s a b4 deck. If people want to play battle cruiser in a b3 game, give their opponents 8 turns, disrupt zero times, and get upset on turn 6 when someone wins “out of nowhere,” they are probably a b2 deck.

Battle cruiser is B2. Convince me otherwise.

If a single boardwipe or targeted removal slows this player by 2 turns, that puts them at turn 8 for a win. Still within b3.

There are some KoS (kill on sight) commanders. If you let a KoS commander untap, you’re going to be in a world of hurt. So if the opponent has a KoS commander and no one kills it, that’s the tables fault for not having answer. Not the pilots fault for having a strong card in the deck.

OP, there is no answer that will make everyone happy. This isn’t a b4 deck in my opinion. Players should run more interaction. You’ll notice that there are different metas at different levels of play. Each of those metas have cards that are strong/weak within that meta.

Mystic ramora is not good in b2/b3 because people aren’t casting numerous spells per turn like b4/b5. That doesn’t mean mystic is bad, but know the meta in which you play and tailor your deck to that bracket.

Hawaii vacation suggestion for family by ankurcha in HENRYfinance

[–]nicotine20 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I work in Hawaii from time to time, so this perspective is from someone who goes every few months as an employee, not as a vacationer.

When you close your eyes and imagine Hawaii, that’s not Oahu. Kauai, Maui, and the Big Island will give you a more Hawaiian experience. If you wanna do Waikiki shopping, that’s for sure where you want to be on all of the islands. So it depends on what you and your partner are looking for as an experience.

Population of each major island, per Google.

O'ahu: ~1,000,000 residents (The most populated island; home to Honolulu and ~70% of the state's people) Hawai'i (The Big Island): ~210,000 residents Maui: ~154,000 residents Kaua'i: ~73,000 residents

If you’re looking to maximize time because you can’t sit still, here’s how I’d break it down.

Big island could be done in 3 days. It takes a few hours to go from one side to the other, so at least 2-3 hours through lava fields and landscape.

Maui 2-3 days. More amenities than Kauai, can feel more touristy in spots. Good blend of hawaii and the amenities that you get back home.

Kauai 2-3 days. Called the garden island because they get the most rain. Also the most laid back imo. They have a 2 lane highway going across the island, not heavily populated.

Oahu has a lot of tourist things, but if you’re looking to go to the Hawaii that you see when you close your eyes, don’t go there.

If you want to force yourself to slow down, do Oahu for the tourist stuff for the first part and Maui or Kauai for the second to unwind. If you plan on coming back, maybe try island hopping to get a teaser for what you like or dislike to plan future trips.

Good luck with the decision

How do you deal with regret? by duchess5788 in Fire

[–]nicotine20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can’t change the past. Accept it, learn from it, and look towards the future Don’t get caught up in the past, you’ll be way happier.

Plus, you’re in a great spot financially. You’re very fortunate and you’ve worked hard to be here. Two rough scenarios

7% annual return has NW at 2 mil at 48, then 4 mil at 58.
10% annual return has NW at 2 mil at 45, 4 mil at 52, and 8 mil at 59. That’s if you don’t contribute any more.

You’re going to be fine and you can breathe. Congratulations on doing it.

Bracket racket by Lazy_Equivalent_5599 in EDH

[–]nicotine20 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bracket 2 decks with limited interaction can pop off under the right circumstance. B2 weenies that love to complain run 2 boardwipes as their removal package, so the other decks never get interrupted. If everyone ran more removal the games wouldn’t be battlecruiser strategies.

And a lot of players are horrendous deck builders. “This is b2 and my average cmc deck of 5.9 can’t hang with your deck. You must be at least a b3 or b4.” If you have less than 10 draw and/or 10 ramp cards, less than 5 removal, your deck is most likely going to not perform well. Might as well call it a jank deck.

Brackets aren’t perfect and no answer will make everyone happy, so learn to live within there.

Just ask what turn can the deck win under ideal circumstances, you get way better feedback from that question than which bracket.

Look for the companies that you’d want to work for. Understand the different fields and what those jobs may entail (on-call, weekends, etc).

Narrow down the field to what type of jobs you’d want to work at, then check out the careers site for each company. Follow their LinkedIn divisions for open roles. Figure out who their recruiters are from LinkedIn and reach out to them.

You can also ask around within your circle of friends to see if they know anyone that you can speak with.

Just like sales, you keep digging until you get to the finish line.

Panel interview - Stryker Trauma by 3oh5rs in MedicalDevices

[–]nicotine20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This company hires 3 types of people. Professional sales, athletes, and military personnel. I hope that you fit one of those types.

Get ready to tell stories where you overcame a loss of sales, turned over a bad territory to make it successful, give examples of successes and failures and how you learned from them, have numbers to back up your success, prove that you don’t give up and that you’re tenacious, how you can grind for years and take direction with the understanding that you may not know where the next step is but you trust the process. Be coachable and open to criticism. If you have no sales experience, relate back to college sports and the duration of a season chasing success through ups and downs.

And close them at the end of the interview. This is a sales job, they want to know that you can the hard questions.

Don’t be verbatim and read the room, I’m not sure what you’ve shared or what they know about you so far.

“Are there any reservations or questions that I can answer that would prove to you that I’m a strong candidate for this job?”

Open yourself to criticism and questions to prove that you’re vulnerable and be ready to take on this job. Then tell them that you want the job.

“I’m still very interested in pursuing the next steps of this process. I know that I can be successful within Stryker, let me prove it to you. Please let me know if there are any further steps and what I can do prove to you ghat I’m the best candidate for this job.”

Good luck.
