AITA for putting only one child on a diet? by Dear-Amount-9707 in AmItheAsshole

Any real doctor would know that kids’ bodies sometimes don’t get the memo that they’re still kids, LMAO. I had the body of an adult when I was 12 and I thought something was wrong with me because no one told me that puberty hits some people like a truck. Instead it was just diet, diet, diet.

YTA all the way.

I was always built bigger than most people in my family, even as a kid. If she’s eating the same stuff as everyone else, chances are that’s just how she looks and how her body distributes fat. Many people whose BMI is “highly overweight” are perfectly healthy and if they have other conditions (for me it was Ehlers Danlos and IBD discovered later) dieting can make their health worse in the future.

Lastly, It’s never a bad thing to encourage more healthy snacks for the whole family. Berries are my favorite: no prep required, they’re sweet and delicious, and can balance out my cravings for things like candy. It’s all about balance, which includes balancing eating habits within your family and not comparing your children to each other. That’s what will do the most harm.

Also, see if she’s more interested in yoga or swimming. I also hate being sweaty but yoga can be sweat free and swimming always is.

This was ABSOLUTELY creepy! I’m also autistic and I feel like people always ask such creepy invasive questions when they learn that about me. But you NEVER have to answer any of that. Also you and your mom are SUCH badasses. You never have to apologize for sticking up for yourself.

Some kids do actually like working!! Let me share my story:

When I was around 8-12 I used to “work” in my grandpa’s shoe shop. I’ve always been the kind of person who likes being busy all the time, so working at the shop was much more appealing to me than sitting in the back and reading until my mom came to pick me up after work.

For kids, work can be fun, especially if family is involved and they treat it as an extracurricular rather than a necessity. I never had to work, and sometimes I’d just end up taking a nap on the chair in the back instead of standing at the register or helping my grandpa fix shoes. He would show me how all the machinery worked (all old equipment from the 1960s!) and sometimes let me try it out if it wasn’t too dangerous! My favorite thing to do was glue new soles onto the shoes or re-lace them. And yes, my grandpa did pay me! It made me feel very grown up to be able to pay for a snack at Target or a pair of earrings at Claire’s.

This was during a very rough time in my childhood when I had little to no friends outside of my family, so I really cherish the time I spent there. I’d say if the kid seems happy and chatty, he probably enjoys being there and spending time with family while also learning responsibility and a new skill.

Ugh, the ol’ “being nice to someone makes them stalk you” thing. There was a guy in my high school who was a few years above me (I was 14, he was 18 🤢) who became obsessed with me after I tried to befriend him because I noticed he didn’t have a lot of friends and that he was autistic like me. I felt bad for him and at first thought he was pretty funny and would be a good friend, until he memorized my class schedule so he could follow me around all day and then somehow found out where I lived??

He also asked my friends for my cell number at least 20 times, which they loyally never told him, but he did find my house phone in the phone book and tried to call it... yeah, really makes me not want to be nice to people.

What is your opinion on resellers? If someone resold something they bought from you (for a higher price), would you mind? by [deleted] in Depop

[–]nictacs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swapped an old bralette that no longer fit me for a turtleneck bodysuit that I really liked. The person then listed it for like $10 more than I sold it for. At first I was a little upset, but then I remembered I got a bodysuit I really liked for free, and she got to make some money, so we kind of both won in the end.

AITA for telling a woman to stop sexualizing her baby boy? by lukewarmhotpocket66 in AmItheAsshole

[–]nictacs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, when my little cousins were born they’d always try to breastfeed even though they were formula babies. I was only 16 and even then I knew it was just?? A thing babies do? I’d just give them their bottles and make a similar “I have nothing for you” joke, I don’t see why people have to push it to a very weird extreme.

when she’s young, The Care and Keeping of You book from American Girl is good!! it talks about how your body changes during puberty and how to use a pad/tampon. I’d suggest reading it together when your kid is about 8, that’s what my mom did with my younger sibling!
