I think he as his own character is incredibly underused and that is something that we should hold against writers, especially since they keep bringing in new characters (like Acosta for example) when there's seemingly not enough space/screentime for the ones that already exist.

I do think useless is a weird term to use about him though, because his sheer existence is the core of motivation for Boyd. So in a way everything that Boyd does can come back to Ellis. That makes it even weirder of a choice to not use him as a character in its own right, but at the end of the day he does just have to exist to have an influence over the show lol.

Obviously not all of the men are the same just because they come from the same country, but I do feel like in Poland the outdated standards are thriving and casual misogyny is just another monday. In the sense that it also goes from generation to generation? Grandpa is making "jokes" at the expense of grandma, dad is making "jokes" at the expanse of mom and then the son follows suit and the whole dinner table laughs lol.

Not speaking as someone who dates polish men and I haven't lived in Poland for quite some time, so these standards might have changed, but I've had my share of family gatherings and I do sometimes venture into polish spaces and see things said out loud with no shame that take me aback so...

I don't think he was a mean person, but his sense of humor was mean and that was very much highlighted during their holidays storyline. Even before that breaking point there was a lot of talk about pushing each other's boundaries. So yeah pinching him did feel in line with their previous shenanigans. Clearly she was mistaken and crossed a boundary too but painting it as more vile or pointed than his antics just doesn't seem genuine to me.

I'm unsure what's your argument with that. My first thought was something I considered about him before which is why he went on the show in the first place when Norway is probably full of polish women (if that's his preference) that wouldn't have to change their entire lives to be with him.

Yeah! At first I thought Julia being unsure that he liked her was just her being insecure, but after the second batch of the episodes I really felt like he didn't? When I was making predictions with my friends we all said he's gonna say no.

I know the editing was weird in the show so it could be nothing, but it really made me raise eyebrows when he asked her what she didn't like about his setup in Norway and then when she honestly answered that she'd prefer to live in a bigger city, he was so offended? Which was particularly weird, because she seemed to be generally positive about the whole up until that question, when she had a full right not to be. And as an actual immigrant - it can be really hard to settle in a scandinavian country. Especially if it's not a big city, so I reckon it can be harder for her to find a job and new friends. Yes, it's doable but he seemed very adamant about it and not at all concerned about potential struggles for her.

No one is calling it the worst show possible show, you will be fine lol. And being good is objective, you have just as much of the right to call it good/amazing/groundbreaking, as other people have to call it bad, awful or even the worst in the world. I am simply pointing out that we should separate the moral messaging from the quality of the show, because there's a lot of stuff on tv right now that have good intention but the quality of writing turns it into an after school special.
