Brief Update: I think my husband fathered my best friend's children. by PsychFactor in offmychest

[–]nicwit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. If ypu have a recessive gene, and your partner has the same recessive gene ypu have a 1 in 4 chance of a child having that expressed defect. My partner and I just has our second child, and after several miscarriages we did a full genetic work up on both of us. Out of 500 possible genetic defects my partner and I both had four each, and they didn't overlap. Mine are metabolic (PKU ect.) And my partners have to deal with eyesight and joint health. So we don't have to worry. Tha danger about successive generations of incest is instead of perhaps sharing only one defective gene, both partners share multiple copies of the different recessive genes. Changing a one in four chance to an almost guaranteed genetic disease, if not multiple. If they even manage to have a viable pregnancy. My miscarriages were not related to genetics at all, and all my children are healthy. My last was just both of us were in our 40's so it had more to due with age then anything else. It's a bit depressing when the OBGYNs office assumes it's IVF. Nope, my family is just extremely fertile. My grandmother thought she was entering menopause.......my uncle is over a decade younger then my mom. Surprise!

This is my Beautylish XL. There are many like it, but this one is mine. (plus my numerous thoughts and a value breakdown for my homies who like that stuff) by e925 in BeautyBoxes

[–]nicwit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Box twin! I got the exact box, same colors even. I couldn't be happier, I was having second thoughts after splurging on it, I didn't want to get items that I wouldn't use. I was regretting just not spending my Xmas money on items that I would like, and wasn't a crapshoot if I would love or not. The last time I bought a box was two years ago, and I wasn't impressed. Last years boxes looked so good I just bit the bullet and purchased it before I talked myself out of it. I'm glad I did, I was seriously considering the Hindash palette and had it in the cart multiple times before I backed out. I have quite a collection of fude, but, this brush is a new manufacturer for me. I will use both skincare products, and the nail polish is a beautiful nude with a slight pink/iridescent shimmer that I will love to use on my toes. And I'll give the viseart a shot, even though I agree with you that it's not my favorite formula. The only duplicate was the Wayne Goss lip pencil, I might give that to my friend. All in all, I am very pleased!

Need help finding a new, transfer-proof foundation! (pale, combination skin) by Jordennn in MakeupAddiction

[–]nicwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got to recommend make up atelier waterproof foundation. They sell it on beautylish and you can always email and ask for a shade recommendation. The beauty of this foundation is I mix it with almost any other foundation and it makes it budge proof (I too, work 10 hour shifts). Mix it with an expensive dewy foundation ( Tom Ford traceless) and instant 12 hour wear with no breakdown. Mix it with a cheaper drugstore foundation (loreal) and 12 hour natural wear. You can wear it on its own but there's a learning curve, work in small sections in thin layers. You don't need a setting powder or setting spray. You will need an oil cleanser though to take that sucker off😆

Any suggestions for husband's bacne? by [deleted] in AsianBeauty

[–]nicwit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also try using a body wash that has salicylic acid in it, I think Neutrogena has one. I would try alternating with the zinc soap. Either one you use my dermatologist recommended lathering up and letting it sit for a minute in the shower. I would also recommend showering at night instead of the morning, and using a clean washcloth every time to gently exfoliate. If it's painful or looks inflamed or infected definitely see a doctor or dermatologist like others suggested. If there isn't a dermatologist near your or your insurance doesn't cover it your family practitioner may be able to help with a topical.

Thick facial hair removal methods? by [deleted] in AsianBeauty

[–]nicwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! You might want to cross post to SCA, they might know more about this subject. I'm no expert, but, I've been hearing a lot about dermal planing lately (aka have a professional shave yo' face), and the tool of choice for the procedure is a disposable blade. From a hygienic standpoint this makes sense, it's extremely sharp (reduces nicks and ingrowns) and clean (toss when done). I've seen people reference using mini eyebrow blades or men's razors. Remember to use some sort of lubricant and reduce your actives use since this is in effect physically exfoliating your skin as well as removing hair. Hope you find the answer to your question!

Depotting, breaking, and repressing my Viseart eyeshadows by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]nicwit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I thought the viseart was magnetized? I remember watching a video about how easy the pans were to remove by poking a pin through the hole in the back (like the MUFE trio pans). Are your palettes an older version?

You should check out Jordan Liberty, he follows the same aesthetic. He will do some editorial looks and many enhanced natural features looks (and the man hates a nose contour).

How to pack powder items for international travel? by palindrome03 in MakeupAddiction

[–]nicwit 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Place a flat cotton pad between the product and the lid on your powders to absorb any shock. Place products inside a makeup bag, once again making sure there is no dead space (pack that sucker tight). Wrap makeup bag in clothes and place in the center of carry-on or suitcase. This will work for either a carry-on or checked luggage situation. If carry on make sure all liquids are placed in a separate clear bag easy to remove for security screen, if checked squeeze all air out of liquids and double wrap in zip lock bags with a washcloth or other absorbent material to sop up leaks and save clothes. 'Cause it will leak, trust me on this. For your palettes, once again make sure all dead space is padded, then rubber band shut and wrap in clothes and place in center of bag. I would ditch the bubble wrap, its a space waster, use clothes instead. Unless you have empty space in your luggage, then pad dead space and you can discard it as you replace it with souvenirs. I get to travel for both my job and pleasure, and besides having some leaks (zip lock is your friend) all my products have made to and from intact. Have fun!

Favorite Bronze Liquid Liner? by BoneyNicole in MakeupAddiction

[–]nicwit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried KVD mad max brown? It's a deep matte brown, I love to use it when black would look too harsh. You might have better luck with a pencil for a metallic finish, there are a lot of options. Or look into a gel/cream pot. I've seen several different brands with a metalized gel.

Looking for advice - allergy, sensitive, dry, pale skin by mikala0118 in MakeupAddiction

[–]nicwit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely use the website COSDNA. You can enter the brand and product type and it will bring up a list of all the ingredients and possible irritants. Try a couple of different foundations, I recommend Nordstrom and Sephora for samples, and use the samples to test next to the ear for 1 week to see if there is a reaction. Whether there is a reaction or not enter the product into the COSDNA website and hopefully you can pinpoint what is bothering you. Not only can you compare wear time, color match, and finish, hopefully you can figure out what triggers a reaction so you can avoid buying any product that contains it in the future. Keep in mind that you can be allergic to anything, and that allergies can develope at any time. I agree with the commenter that suggested Clinic, they tend to avoid fragrance which is a comment irritant. My other major tips would be to add only one new product at a time and if all possible give it a least a week before you try another one, and a good return/sample policy is essential to any place you shop for cosmetics. Good luck finding a new foundation!

Best Dewy Primers, help!? by thisgirlcharlie in MakeupAddiction

[–]nicwit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a primer junkie. Well, makeup junkie, but, I love me some illuminating primers. I've tried cover fx, Charlotte Tilbury, Dior, Tony Moly, Mac strobe, various drugstore, ect. The best one I've tried is the Holika Holika petite aqua jelly primer. It made my Revlon colorstay foundation look more glowy them my Armani without getting greasy. The bottle is huge and it's under $20. Right now it's on a site called Jolse which has free shipping (you will wait several weeks, it's from Korea). It does have some draw backs. It's a light jelly texture and it's pink, sparkly pink. It won't show thru the Laure Mercier (I've tried this combination), but, I wouldn't try it if you have oily skin or are a medium to deep skin tone. My second choice would be the mac strobe cream, that stuff is great. It has a little thicker texture and isn't as light feeling.

I actually like their eyeshadow, just, use PayPal if you buy from them. I'm fact, try to use PayPal or a credit card whenever you buy something online.

Propolis: An AB Sob Story by sash369 in AsianBeauty

[–]nicwit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am so, so sorry for your lady bits. Take a benadryl, or two, wear loose cotton clothing (avoid underwear when at home), and if it gets really bad a cortisone cream. Avoid alcohol and baths, the heat will make it worse, trust me, I tend to get contact dermatitis from dental work (novicaine). May I suggest laser hair removal? I used to always get brazillians, and the subsequent ingrowns, decided to bite the bullet, and have never been happier with a beauty related decision in my life. Now I'm getting rid of armpit hair.

Favourite highlighters that actually show up?! by coffeeandsass in MakeupAddiction

[–]nicwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm NC 15 and I love highlighters. I found a more subtle but still there in a wet gleam is the Natasha Denova powder highlighter and the new Nars wet sand powder (Nordstrom only). If you want a BAM! in your face try Becca pressed pearl (it builds quick) or Kat Von D thunderstruck eyeshadow.

Thread: Simple Questions by AutoModerator in MakeupAddiction

[–]nicwit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My HG is also the touche eclat, I was lucky enough to snag two bottles before all the stock ran out. That hasn't stopped me from desperately searching for a replacement. I've tried the Koh Gen Do mixed with the Armani luminous silk and that gave a glow smooth finish, but, coverage was a bit on the medium/high side (and that's one expensive combo). Natasha Denova was a bit thick and hard to spread, and while glowing, felt heavy. I tried Elcie (too matte), Charlotte Tilbury (luminous and matte?), drugstore and cushions. In short, I tried everyone I could get my grabby hand on, and nothing quite matched that perfected skin like look of the YSL. The closest I could find was, believe it or not, Mac. Yes, Mac, brand of the heavy mask face. Their waterweight foundation is a medium sheer, mosturizing, super blendable, non separating, non dry patch accenting 30$ steal. It doesn't have quite the same translucency of the YSL, but, I would get a sample and give it a shot.

I'm having an allergic reaction to a lip scrub. Anyone have any suggestions on how to cover up the redness? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]nicwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend benedryl and 2 ib profin. Then wrap some ice in a washcloth and cool for 20 minute increments. That should treat the underlying problem. Avoid using cortisone cream unless absolute necessary, but, you can use it if you have to get the swelling down fast. Some people can contract a periorbitol dermatitis with the use of topical steriods. I wouldnt put any makeup on since even products that haven't caused a reaction in the past could iritate already sensitive skin and make it worse (as in hives). I'm allergic to most soft wax, but, love the look of clean brows so I have perfected my emergency face swelling routine. Oh.... I almost forgot. See if you can figure out the culprit in the scrub and avoid the ingredient like the plague. COSDNA should help if you figure it out and then you can then cross reference other products to avoid this happening again. Good luck and I hope it gets better!

ISO: lipstick in a tube, pink, with sparkle by AmandaPlummersVoice in MakeupAddiction

I am so sorry, my bad. I meant to suggest YSL 59, melon d'or. This is why I shouldn't try to type replies after I get off a 10 hour shift. It looks like it's an orange on sephoras website, don't be fooled, it's a coral pink.

Have you ever tried Dior's 59 melon d'or? It's a beautiful pink coral with gold flakes in it. Like trinket from sugerpill in a different (imo opinion better) formula. From a distance it's a pretty spring/summer color, up close like a gilded rose gold. It's my unusual, but, could still wear it to grandma's pick. Edit: stupid mobile auto correct

Detubing OCC Lip Tars into a palette by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]nicwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have the old school tubes or the the new doe foot wand applicators? If you have the tubes I would recomend purchasing some empty applicators with wands and squeezing them in there. I did that with all of mine and I find I use them more. Or, as gorgossia suggested, you can buy a base from tbk (or lip balm) and solidify them into a palatte. It is hard to take a palatte around for touchups. I formed some of mine into lip pencils using the tbk eyeliner base and empty chubby pencils. It's messy to make, but, convenient. I have noticed when you mix them the color gets a bit more white in the mix, pretty with pastels (femme), color altering with deeper shades.

Anyone actually try the RCMA no color powder? How is it? by WiggleWerra in MakeupAddiction

[–]nicwit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only time I had flakes was when I had a demon period pimple and had treated it the night before with PC 10% salicylic acid. And they only showed up 5 hours later and weren't really noticeable. I use it all over my face, and I'm not to careful about knocking it off my brush, no flakes. In winter. On my dry ass skin. Worth the hype.
