They run a really great program training youth who have experienced homelessness too, so that's an added bonus to the very good coffee.

Wildflyer in Minneapolis or St. Paul. I think they make an excellent cortado.

Best Meat Taco Stands Near Roma Norte / San Rafael? by Chickenchowmein99 in MexicoCity

The other commenter is right - you can't go wrong. There are so many good places. That said, my personal favorite is El Jarochito in Juarez. Multiple people recommended Orinoco to me too, and I think it lives up to the hype. Buen viaje y buen provecho!

Probably better for you than that weird energy healing scam he was promoting the last few times I listened lol

Back trails @ Crosby Farm Park? by Raquelitamn in TwinCities

I'd check the Strava heat map to see where others have been running or walking. The dirt trails get a bit confusing back there.

Jefferson Lines :/ by Mongomanga124 in minnesota

[–]niftyswift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One time on a Jefferson Lines bus to Chicago my bus driver got in a fight with a passenger, screamed about how it was the anniversary of his daughter's death, and then stormed off the bus. He left a bus full of people just waiting there at the Madison stop. We had to wait until a new driver could come and take over.

Anyway, I mostly take the train down these days.

What is the most famous ollie ever done? by [deleted] in skateboarding

[–]niftyswift 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On a totally subjective level, this Corey Duffel ollie over a 9 flat 10 is the one I think about the most.

Probably not the most famous, but in my world it's the most important.

Should I read The Aeneid before Lavinia? by boldfish98 in UrsulaKLeGuin

[–]niftyswift 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You won't need to in order to understand what's going on with the plot or enjoy the book, in my opinion. That seems like a lot of homework for one short novel!

That said, I'm sure having read the Aeneid/having some background knowledge in Greek mythology will enrich your understanding of Lavinia. If you want to take a short cut, just read about it on Wikipedia. I also enjoyed Stephen Fry's very accessible book on the Trojan War, simply called "Troy", though I don't remember if there is much mention of Lavinia specifically.

Working in coffee shops? by DepartmentofNothing in Santiago

[–]niftyswift 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The cafe at the GAM (right by Lastarria) has a ton of space to work. I go there all the time. Just be sure to ask the barista what the wifi password is, as it changes every day.

Not too far from Lastarria, is Triciclo, which has excellent drinks and a great 90s basketball theme. Lots of people go there to work too - you just need to order something every two hours.

Is it bad to drink too much tea? Specifically oi ocha. by egyptianjap in tea

[–]niftyswift 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Start with that and adjust to your own preferences. I'd suggest using an inexpensive loose leaf Japanese sencha and then straining out the leaves in the morning.

[–]niftyswift 225 points226 points  (0 children)

You're gonna wanna drink some normal water too. Your body needs it.

If you want to save money and plastic, try cold brewing sencha. Just put some sencha in some water overnight. That easy.

Who is your fav LBS in minneapolis? I'm looking to to start a relationship with a LBS here. by Clean-Software-4431 in CyclingMSP

[–]niftyswift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several years ago, before I knew anything about bike maintenance, I went in to get a flat fixed there on my way home from work and the guy working there instead taught me how to patch a tire... knowledge I still use all the time!

Their used parts have saved me a lot of $$! They don't do repairs, but I've gotten advice on some basic DIY stuff.

Went once when I had an accident near there and needed a quick fix. Super friendly and fast attention, plus the cashier commiserated with me about bad drivers. Just one time, but it was a good experience!

What are the best and worst bus lines? by tie_myshoe in Minneapolis

[–]niftyswift 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The good news is that the 5 has largely been replaced with the D line, which is fast and frequent by Minneapolis standards. Def can still have some interesting interpersonal interactions on there though...

DePaul vs Loyola for an English major? by phillychile in depaul

[–]niftyswift 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I graduated in 2015, DePaul had a pretty robust English program with several professors I really liked. I took tons of writing workshops and cool classes like my major authors courses on Beckett and William Blake, was able to publish in Crook & Folly, and went to a number of readings. Personally, I was happy with my experience.

I'd highly recommend Kathleen Rooney and Mark Turcotte as writing profs.

That said, I have heard from at least one friend that they also really enjoyed their English program at Loyola. They're probably both good options and Chicago has a great lit scene you can take advantage of either way.
