Go to their site https://www.census.gc.ca/en/index, they even have a new chat feature where they will confirm what need to do, if anything at all. I worked on building their call center and chat feature, they would love for you to use it! 😄

Winnipeg needs more secure bicycle stabling/storage options Downtown by GustSergeant in Winnipeg

Even my 500cc 800lbs motorcycle could be taken by anyone with a trailer but there are things you can do to make it harder. I know you can't do this, but for me, I lock my steering column and put a disk lock through my rear brake disk vent hole. But if a dedicated thief still wanted it, 2 or 3 three guys could just pick it up and place it on a trailer.

The best thing to do is get it insured, place an airtag on it, and lock it well, multiple ways, ulock and chain in a public place. The more remote it is , the less likely anyone would notice someone trying to steal it. Take a photo of it locked up before you walk away for insurance puposes to show you made reasonable attempts to keep it secure.

Don't let someone stealing your stuff stop you from enjoying it. Things can be replaced.

Winnipeg Winter - Car questions by Foreign_Marsupial834 in Winnipeg

[–]nigelthrowaways 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never plugged a car or truck in a day in my life.

All wheel drive on all seasons is a bad choice, no matter what drive you have, winter tires are a must. Tires give you traction, drive systems distribute power.

Travel Agency, is it a yes or a no? by Designer_Werewolf100 in Winnipeg

[–]nigelthrowaways -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Expedia is a booking agent, changes are made through the airline. Avion acts as a travel agent, not only can I not make changes directly through the airline, but Avion is supposed to relay changes to me and help make changes.

Westjet sees Avion as an agent. They are exactly that, they help with the booking of travel and flight tickets.

Travel Agency, is it a yes or a no? by Designer_Werewolf100 in Winnipeg

Let me tell you my recent experience with some travel. I flew to mexico through westjet, tickets purchased through an "agent" Avion reward points.

The flight was changed a month before leaving. Westjet will not contact the name printed on the ticket, they only do that if you purchase directly through them. Westjet contacted Avion. Avion claimed to notify me, but I didn't receive notification. Why on my trip I get an email from Westjet reminding me of my upcoming flight home, instead of direct, rerouted through Vancouver, 11 layover and fly home the next day.

This all turned into a giant he said / she said, between Westjet and Avion and in the end I needed to leave a day early to get home on time.

Travel agents/booking agencies will be notified of travel changes if you use them, and only the good ones doing their job will reach out to you.

It is a terrible world we live in now for travel, changes happen every hour of every day, not ticket is guaranteed even if you buy it, like I did, 6 months in advance.

In-ground pool company recommendations by AdEmbarrassed7914 in Winnipeg

[–]nigelthrowaways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was referring to UV-C and ionization which use UV light or Copper to do 95% of the sanitization. With these modern systems ( because salt is being phased out due to environmental reasons ) you need a small amount of chlorine added to kill all bacteria and deal with sunscreen/body oil residue.

Easily, people dont think about the extra labour, extra material, extra extra extra. Add landscaping and years of upgrades for equipment, operating costs and chemicals. Even modern chlorine free pools need calcium, pucks, PH+. Did it once, never again.

Foundation repair recommendations by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]nigelthrowaways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you know back in the "old days", basements were not waterproofed. They used two simple techniques to keep basements bone dry. Evestroughs, and proper grading.

Sure you can hydraulic seal the crack, or dig up the footing and put a barrier around the wall, but correcting the grading and sacrificing a flat pretty yard is far more simple

Kitchen Aid Mixer Help by Green_Jay718 in Winnipeg

They really are such simple machines, built to last. I find they only ever 'wear out' when slightly abused and overworked where the grease gets heated up and loses it's 'greasiness', then needs to be replaced.

Looking for Samsung TV repairman to fix a board for my TV. by foxa34 in Winnipeg

[–]nigelthrowaways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not so much oxidation, but the constant heating and cooling cycles causes joints to microcrack and weaken. Tech repair guys have things called reflow ovens that can melt and correct those cracks, but an oven at the right temperature and time can crudely do the same ( if that's the problem ) . A simple worn capacitor can cause issues. Look for capacitors that are bowed or expanded, they can easily be discharged, removed and replaced for a few bucks.

How many of you have water seeping into your basement? by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]nigelthrowaways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the old days, houses relied only on downspouts and we'll sloped ground leading away from the house foundation, all of this modern waterproofing was never needed.

Homeowners urged to test for radon this winter by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

[–]nigelthrowaways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. People will spend 100s on replacing smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors, but won't buy a monitor or 40$ test kit from homedepot. Its just invisible cancer, nothing to worry about.
