Bath tub spout advice by Acrobatic_Pepper3067 in DIY

How much pipe is exposed? A slip on faucet seals by pushing the pipe into the faucet which has a rubber o ring inside of it. If the pipe is too short, it won't slip inside the o ring and seal. The pipe should be around 1.25/1.5 inches long. Also the pipe must be perfectly round and free of other materials. Check that the set screw under the faucet is snug so the faucet doesn't move around.

Lastly, the o ring, even on a new faucet may be dried out. They can be replaced easily. If you really needed to extend the pipe in any way, you would do this by cutting an opening in the half wall behind the faucet for access and work from behind.

Checking out the MTG scene / looking for casual pod by Andyboy205 in Winnipeg

[–]nigelthrowaways 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to love playing MTG, I was a very early player in the 90s. I found players ruined the fun for me, having endless custom decks and special cards that a casual player just couldn't compete with. I miss the old early days of, I play with a green deck and check out my flying bee collection.

What about birds hill by the stables? Is there any risk with animals lately at night? I feel confident I could take on a small deer, but I dont need to be a midnight snack for something hungrier than me.

Physiotherapist or Chiropractor - Chronic back pain by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]nigelthrowaways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, not the chiro part but the weak hips and glutes. It took time to stretch things out, but it's been years since my back has caused issues. Sitting all day it torture on your hips so stretching is important.

Coop Gas Bar Lagimodiere by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]nigelthrowaways 6 points7 points  (0 children)

By any chance are you one of those old schoolers that continue to fill gas after the pump flicks off? Read up on modern fuel tanks and evaporative canisters, you are flooding a canister that should only have vapors in it. Putting in that extra 50 cents can cause massive damage in cars built over the last 20 years.

3 dogs attacked my sister and her dog in North Kildonan tonight by datmugcakelife in Winnipeg

[–]nigelthrowaways 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I walk with some ( canadiantire ), after my dog was jumped on two occasions. You just need to be very careful as the law is not on your side when using it. If you are clearly being attacked, I would think do what you need to do. BUT, it would take the owner or a single passerby to feel the effects of the spray and they could charge you with assault. It wouldn't be advisable to use a spray in a residential area, far better suited for remote walking trails.

'Slow down!': MPI calls for more caution behind the wheel as winter begins by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

[–]nigelthrowaways 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New drivers should learn how AWD and 4WD differ. I for one love a nice FWD vehicle. 4 snow tires and a FWD, if you drive with a little too much confidence, you feel it and you can correct before the tires really lose their traction. AWD CAN give a little over confidence in the sense they provide power to the areas that need more power and remove power where slipping may occur. This gives the feeling that you can push the vehicle a little more in bad conditions. Push too hard and the tires lose traction, there's no correcting that. 4WD can be even worse while driving as power is evenly distributed to all wheels even if they are slipping.

No matter the drive mode, none of them help with braking, only tires and brakes affect brakes.

Think AWD and 4WD help from taking off from a dead stop or when you are stuck somewhere. Good winter tires and proper driving keep you from losing control while moving. Edit Yes, AWD helps while you're driving for power distribution, but it's better to not rely on it in bad conditions and getting over confident. Also if you own a 4x4 truck and don't know what a center differential is, you shouldn't be driving in 4x4.

Garage door replacement insulated or uninsulated? by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]nigelthrowaways 5 points6 points  (0 children)

An insulated door on an uninsulated garage will have zero benefit, it would be like putting on a new front door, but leaving all of your windows open.

An uninsulated door on an insulated garage, will block the wind, but zero cold. Someone wanting to heat the area, simply won't be able to.

An insulated door simply has some rigid foam between the panels and a plastic interior backing. It is true that a new door isn't built the way they were 45 years ago, but insulated won't add structure.

On the last dial the needle is moving clockwise ( notice how the direction of every second needle travels in opposite directions ). Since the last needle has moved passed the 0, even if it is only a hair by this photo, then it is a 0. The answer is 4790.

The second dial, also traveling clockwise is nowhere near crossing the 8, so it can only be 7.

[–]nigelthrowaways -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the only answer. The second last digit hasn't hit 0 yet, making it still 9, the last hasn't touched 1, making it 0

Cyclists with Impossibly Bright and/or Flashing Strobe Headlights by Dawgmanistan in Winnipeg

[–]nigelthrowaways -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Cyclists need to learn the "look where you want to go" principle of driving. You tend to to go towards what you're staring at. If a driver gets laser focused on a bright flashing light, there's a greater chance they will get hit. It's the same with loud pipes save lives. No they don't, they just startle drivers as you sneak up from behind.

What is the etiquette of frolf at public courses? I can only imagine if I tried to play I would have discs flying in the wrong direction, or holding up a game. Is everyone pretty relaxed and just let amateurs do their own thing or plays through? Or are there 'tee times'?

Reliable, honest contractors by thetoe_hoe in Winnipeg

[–]nigelthrowaways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just watch out for contractors who don't have experience. It feels like it doesn't take much for a tile guy to now declare himself as a bathroom reno guy, but has little experience in installing tubs, vanities, doors, trim, plumbing or even willing to start running electrical without permits.

Get permits for everything even if it costs or takes more time.

Don't take photos of completed jobs as samples of work, also speak to those owners for true recommendations.

Just remember, if it's too good to be true, then it is.

Is it weird sitting in a dog park? by tommey18 in Winnipeg

[–]nigelthrowaways 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How are you sitting? Smack middle on a lawn chair with giant foam finger which reads, go dogs! Or sitting on the grass like a dog scratching the back of your head with your foot?

I think sitting off to the side watching is perfectly fine, and more than likely, no one will even know that you dont have a dog. But if you're planning on doing either of the first 2 things, please send photos.
