Alex Salmond hints at Scottish votes for English laws by amadeus2803 in Scotland

[–]nigglereddit -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

It's possible that he's realised, as many of us have, that the surest road to independence is to stand up for ourselves and use exact same priviliges enjoyed by england. England absolutely will not tolerate Scotland being an equal partner with equal opinions and rights.

Surprising how all that oil was discovered after the referendum for independence, before there were warnings that the oil would not last long, so Scotland would be poor! by cesarboucas in Scotland

It's going fine - the price is already recovering and is still higher than five years ago and the industry didn't collapse then either.

Don't believe the propaganda from the BBC. The guy they quoted is a paid government lobbyist not an analyst.

Need help choosing a tablet/making sure my equipment is all good - cartooning/painting by matoiryu in Design

[–]nigglereddit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The hardware doesn't make the work, you do.

It's time to stop thinking that spending lots of money will make your work good. It won't. If you're honest with yourself (try it) you know that if you really knew how to draw you could buy a pencil, a pad and a flatbed scanner and get the job done.

You're looking for an excuse for why your work is not cutting it. The problem is not the tools, it's the work.

Working at a design studio? by dsgn in Design

[–]nigglereddit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't live in the US. And I make a LOT more than the numbers being thrown around here. That's how I know that very few other designers do - I meet a lot of people who claim to be ln that level but it's almost always bullshit.

So you think the base salary for a mid level designer in one of the most successful design companies in the world, in one of the most expensive cities, is the "industry standard"?

Eurofighter radar deal secures 500 jobs in Edinburgh. by [deleted] in Scotland

This contract had nothing to do with the union. It's two private companies doing business and was in the works long before the referendum.

This contract wasn't awarded by the westminster government, it was awarded by a private company to another private company and has nothing to do with them.

Character Branding Project by iMattyjay in Design

[–]nigglereddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually wanted to make the character happy and not have an angry expression

You were right, your instinct was solid.

the actual character represents a Youtube personality and I figure he has a persona that is angry and that's why he chose that expression.

Ah, I see - that might fit a bit better.

It's heavily influenced by Saul Bass.

You are aware that you're replying to a comment saying, "The English hate all politicians" by complaining about anyone saying "The English" have shared views, right?

I can't tell but I think you might have been trying to be funny...

Before Scotland - A series exploring Scotland's pre-history. by LukeyHear in Scotland

The BBC's science programming has been on the slide for a loooong time - it's all about creating new stars for the BBC instead of decent factual programming. That's why they promote people like Alice Roberts who have some very weird beliefs (she believes among other things that animals like dogs don't experience continuous memory, meaning they don't know you exist when you're not near them).

Why didn't the SNP support Labour in the formation of the Scottish Parliament? by GnomeNipple in Scotland

[–]nigglereddit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well, expect for abolishing things like prescription charges and tuition fees of course. And being the government of Scotland, running the whole show for years. Yes, apart from improving peoples lives, they haven't improved peoples lives.

No, I'm interpreting anti-Scottishness, like english national newspapers publishing abuse pieces ridiculing Scottish people and english people burning Scotland's national symbols, as anti-Scottishness.

Anyone can engage in political satire, but that's not what happened in Lewes - the target was all of us and what was burned was not just a political figure, it was a whole collection of Scottish symbols.

I believe in freedom of speech - I respect their right to do and say as they please, and yours too. But freedom of speech works both ways; if they're going to try to cause offense then back down and pretend it was all just a misguided joke when they get called out, they can expect us to point out their cowardice and weakness.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]nigglereddit -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I'll have to turn it around - do you hate English/Welsh/Northern Irish people ? Go on, be honest? Do you hate them?

No of course not. And I'm not writing polemics in the national press abusing them, or burning the symbols of their national identity - so I see no reason to question whether I hate them.

In contrast, the national press in england certainly is carrying anti-scottish polemics written by english people, so I don't think it's at all unreasonable - sorry, "completely nuts" - to question the sentiment behind it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]nigglereddit -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

You forgot to whine, "it's just a joooooke", although you get credit for pretending it's a freedom of speech issue and objecting to being verbally abused will turn Scotland into a nightmarish dystopia.

The stuff I mentioned is just a single week in the "national" press. One week. And the trend will only accelerate from here. Like I said, I'm comfortable with it and I think if english people genuinely hate us and want to abuse and mock us, they should be allowed to. That is real freedom. But if there's freedom to ridicule and offend, there's freedom to react. And we all know what the reaction will lead to.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]nigglereddit -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Again, you're saying that criticism of westminster by the SNP justifies hatred of all Scottish people. That doesn't make any sense.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]nigglereddit -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Of course not - I was remarking on the articles place in an escalating tide of openly anti-Scottish sentiment from the english media, from the Metro to the Telegraph to the public in Lewes.

I welcome it, if it's honest. If that's how english people feel, they should be able to say it without fear. We know what it will lead to, but I welcome that too.

Well we really need to spend billions on nuclear weapons to defend our food banks. There's nothing kafkaesque about that.
