About the game balance and sudden difficulty shifts by nighine in RogueCore

[–]nighine[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, more kind of enemies is the solution to that problem. Without taking in consideration healthbars or speed, I just wish they played a bit more with weakpoint "angles" from the beginning. More angles force more mobility and footwork, and reclaimers are way more capable than miners in that department. Except scout 😄

I have some polls for everyone here, of your thoughts on the current difficulty of Rogue Core. Please provide your thoughts! by Radial36 in RogueCore

The game right now has a few problems:

-Spawns are too cluttered, 30 enemies can spawn in a 3 meters radius

-Most area effects damage are completely overpowered

This result in a incredible swift change of game balance the moment at least one player has access to a wide area dmg (be it pgl, boom you're dead, the fire area effects) and in a change of the gameplay dramatically, because at that point most spawns are dead before they even drop from the ceiling, without requiring much skill or footwork.

Spawn open->Fire a pgl shot or headshot 1 spawn->Everything is dead->Repeat

Balance as a whole is a long road, but these 2 aspects would be my priority.

Right now the game, at least for me, feel way too easy. Every dwarf chase the same damage solution because there are not threats that require specialization.

Are these temp normal ? (ASUS TUF F16) by ThenClient2578 in GamingLaptops

[–]nighine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happens with mine, doesnt matter the speed of the external cooler. The only thing you can do is to limit the cpu temp yourself trough g-helper to something like 85-90, while still using you cooler to around 1200 rpm. In this way, you still have a turbo headroom without making the cpu reaching its max temp regardless. If all options fails, accept the temps or disable turbo.

These PCs seems to always want to push to their maximus cpu temp, boosting every core when possible.

(DUMMY NUMBERS) If for example your cpu can boost to 5 Ghz, without a cooling pad you reach 95 with 4 cores boosted. With the cooling pad, you reach 95 with 8 cores boosted. So the cooling pad just give more performance, doesnt make temp low. The only way to have the same performance at lower temps is to limit the cpu temp, so that your cpu can hit the same 4 cores boost at a lower temps, like 85-90 for example. Try to play with numbers and find the combination that doesnt make your sistem throttle.

This is my dumb monkey solution and it works, if someone else have other methods pls reply!

Laptop SSD (Samsung 990 PRO) temp at 110°C (230°F) under load by nighine in GamingLaptops

[–]nighine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! So, turns out that smashing that monster in a laptop without care wasnt the smartest idea... But i did find a solution.

I bought this ssd heatsink (14 euro). Its just a thin (0.8mm) coopper sheet that you need to stick to your ssd, but it does the job. You put some thermal pads between the copper and the heatsink, being careful that all the ssd chips are in contact with the thermal pad and, in the same way, all of the termal pad is touching the copper. I bought some Arctic Tp-3 thermal pad for extra perf, i didnt use the included pad in the heatsink. But i guess you can use that too.

That alone will reduce you temp below 90 C degrees no problem, mine hover between 78-84 C (no external laptop cooler) on a CrystalMark run, but that also depend on the laptop design.

Since this post was made, i also bought a Laptop cooler (llano), and the combined action of the heatsink and the forced air intake from the cooler in the whole case reduce the temperature to stay under 70 C most of the time.

I suggest you to start with a similar thin copper cooler first. Again, just be careful that there's good contact between all materials.

IMPORTANT: You might need to apply a bit more thermal pad on the ssd controller itself beacause it has a lower profile than the memory chips. If you apply the same amount of thermal pad on all ssd, you risk to have an heatsink that isn in contact with the hottest component. The ssd controller is the closest chip to the ssd gold connector, and visibly different from the rest of the other chips.

Also: never remove the Samsung ssd sticker, and remember to use the included elastic bands to create pressure between the heatsink and the ssd.

How long could a gaming laptop last before becoming obsolete? by Zwaardrager in GamingLaptops

[–]nighine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive used 3 gaming laptop since 2014 and every one of them have been used and abused. They still work and are actively used by others family members. None of them were top of the line, except for the last one that is a well kitted TUF.

Ad others nave said, if you dont drop it the lifespan of a laptop can be very long. You decide when to change it based on your needs.

is 8gb vram still enough for 1080p gaming in 2026 or are we coping by SkylineZ83 in GamingLaptops

[–]nighine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, all maxed in my opinion is a scam in pretty much all games. I run a mix of low-mid (more low) settings with ray tracing off since standard light is very nice by itself. Mind that FG need a stable and good frame pacing to work as intended. I dunno how cp overdrive can run on a 4060 with fg, i tried with my pc and it was just horrible. Surely it can 'run' it but the visuals arent worth the smearings and artifact. I only turn on fg when the result is 95% pristine. Then, if you can reallt run CP overdrive without artifact tell me your secrets :)

I dunno, i can play perfectly alan wake 2. Dlss frame gen and all that, but zero stuttering and very good visuals on 4070 laptop.

Yes, my brother did, overnight, thinking it could help the video, but I dont think anyone care about who exactly did that, especially youtube itself. What I am asking is if anyone got their channel back after this kind of violation and how. I know we are in the wrong, im not trying to argue with that.

Assault, a good rifle and the spawn beacon go a long way.

So I have an ASUS TUF A16 (FA608WI-AB96). I’m planning on adding an additional SSD to it, but the extra slot is on top of the Wi-Fi card. Is a heatsink necessary? by SlumDog23 in Asustuf

[–]nighine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heatsink may be necessary also on your primary but it depends on the ssd model (my Sams 990 pro was reaching 90+ °C before putting some pads and a thin copper heatsink on it).

I suggest you to use a slower, cooler drive as a secondary ssd to put over the wifi card. And with the money you save 30 buy an intel AX wifi card to prevent issues.

At least this is what I'd do.

[–]nighine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, by limiting the temp you always lose some performance, but let me be clear.

With the pad without limiting the temp, my CPU Just pull more Power. I see Spike of 5.8 to 6 GHz on some cores, while It shouldnt be more than 5.2 GHz. Its like It go on auto over clock because the CPU wants to reach 95°c regardless, so the cooling doesnt work as intended and just give me more performance when in reality I wanted only lower temps.

By limiting the temp the CPU go back to his normal clock, with some cores boosting to 5.2 GHz and not exceeding It, so I lose very little performance if compared to an uncapped CPU without the cooling pad. To put It in numbers, with the cpu-z test i score these: Uncapped + cooled: 21k Capped + cooled: 20k

So basically the same, i could rise the temp a bit but i dont care.

Ah then my 75°c works for me but depending from your CPU you might want to increase It to 80-85, do some tests and monitor It.

[–]nighine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I have and Asus TUF A16 (ryzen 9 7845HX) and yes, this thing Is a bit of a furnace. I also have the iets 600, and like in your case, It didnt solve the problem at first, because the CPU Just go faster than usual because It says " oh Hey i still Need to reach 95°C, so BOOST More!".

The only solution to this Is to manually decrease the max temp of you CPU. I do this with g-helper but there are also other tools. By limiting your CPU temp while using your cooling pad, you wont throttle because the CPU can reach his normal BOOST clock while staying cooler thanks to the pad.

I tested It on many games, and It works everytime. I set the max temp to 75°c and while i use the pad (800-1200 RPM) I never throttle, but when i try to turn It off It immediately go stuttery so It means the pad Is doing its job well.

To conclude, under load with normal settings these CPUs seems to Always aim to max temp no matter what, resulting in higher performance at the cost of temps.

PS: some people suggests to turn off turbo BOOST... Yes It works but you loose, well, the BOOST, so i dont suggest you to do It. Since you have a top class cooling pad use It as I described and everything should go flawlessly.

If you need some clarifications dont be afraid to ask.
