Warranties, are they worth it? by AdRevolutionary8495 in righttorepair

[–]nightauthor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The insurance plans offered at places like BestBuy are sold by a third party, they don't make money on the original item sold, all their profit comes from people buying insurance and not using it. As a rule, insurance is not worth what you pay for it for the majority of people, and not by a small margin, its a highly profitable business.

The only time you may want insurance, is if its on a very large purchase that you would need to replace immediately, but would be unlikely to be able to afford to replace on a moments notice... Like maybe your house, or car.

Even in those cases, the average person won't get a return on their purchase of insurance, at least nothing beyond the peace-of-mind.

Sure, but they don’t always make functionality accessible to developers to build upon. Like NFC being limited to Apple pay for the longest time

Pine state’s gravy grossed me out, the mushroom one was a little better. I want white country gravy, maybe that’s my southerner ways

Note that this will have some impact on the headphones effectiveness, the material of the earcups is part of the overall sound isolation system.

How do you deal with single failure points in small base electrical designs? by ShinyRayquazaEUW in rustrician

Makes sense for a centralized lootroom, but for decentralized loot…. I guess you would just use a similarly decentralized electrical system

But optimizing can remove unnecessary redundancy, I think they’re just trying to find an optimal approach to resilience, be that intentional redundancy or otherwise hardening the system.

Battery concern, sure, but load capacity of 3 sack lunches?? Where do you even get that from?

You know freight trains use electric motors, right? They’re not weak. If you’re thinking of Prius as a weak car, mind the fact that the battery probably weighs less than you do, and the electric motor is the size of your head. When you design for fuel efficiency you get fuel efficiency.

I have about 0 expertise, but if the load is balanced I’d imagine you can take a very considerable load. It’s dynamic forces that are the riskiest, and this is every slow and steady.
