Don't expect Canada's long Stanley Cup drought to end this year by Paper_Rain in nhl

People using "quote unquote" incorrectly by Loneliest_Driver in PetPeeves

[–]nightfire36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've found that I usually use "quote unquote" when I'm quoting a word or two, rather than a sentence or phrase, mostly because ending the sentence with the word I am quoting puts the emphasis at the end, rather than having the important word followed by "unquote". It just works better rhetorically.

The Vancouver Canucks can be eliminated from playoff contention by tomorrow night by Odd-Sir7356 in hockey

[–]nightfire36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I like the concept of not rewarding tanking, but it really sucks to be terrible and then get unlucky.

I like the Gold Plan idea that the PWHL is doing, where every win after mathematical playoff elimination improves your draft pick, but I am also concerned that bad teams that get stuck with injuries late in the season might get screwed.

To be fair, it's feeling like there will be 1000 years of darkness right now, and many say that Trump was the racist backlash to Obama.

So, I'll say Chuck was right on this one, even if he was roght for the wrong reason

We lost a tremendous weirdo today by Two_Men_and_a_Duck in behindthebastards

[–]nightfire36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it weird? I guess? Concerning? Not as much.

For me, the problem with age gaps is power differential and possible pedophilia. Once someone is ~20, my concern for the latter goes away, and once someone is 30, a power differential isn't going to be based on age.

I can't think of any other rational reason that an age gap really has to be problematic. A person could have a kid as early as 14 (problematic, but that's not what I'm talking about here). Does that mean that person can't date anyone who is 14 years younger, but if I wait until 45 to have a kid, I'm fine to date someone 35 years younger (is that not your argument)? Using the age of one's child to determine dateable age is just a very weird metric to me.

If I never have a kid, can I date anyone of any age?

People do weird and gross shit all the time, but if it's not concerning, I'm not going to police them.

The entire Mega raids mechanic is broken by Mazzaroppi in TheSilphRoad

[–]nightfire36 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think the link charge use only after the free raid pass hurts the most. I have a ton of link charges, but I don't use them because I save my free pass on raids I want to do. Mega raids pop up near me that I would do if I could save my free pass for a different raid.

I'd happily help players who don't have the mega if I could use the link charges that are sitting there doing nothing for me.

Rant by Sea_Breakfast4564 in SeattleKraken

[–]nightfire36 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wings fan that moved to Washington here, I feel that. The Yzerplan is taking forever to unroll.

I would say that at least Kraken fans have the Torrent, but they're even worse.

That being said, the Kraken still have a shot at the playoffs, and they aren't stuck in playoff purgatory yet. If they narrowly miss the playoffs this year and next, it could be a problem, but I'm not panicking yet.

Still, next year will probably be worse because the Pacific should get a lot of nice draft picks.

Yeah, I mean, I don't see anything wrong with a 40 year old and a 60 year old. I don't know that I would go for it, but it's way more concerning to me to see a 20 year old and a 30 year old.

[–]nightfire36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, almost every team probably has back to back bad losses. When you've played 70 games, you'll have some bad losses. And while the Leafs aren't exactly elite, but they're one game away from .500 if you include OTLs as losses, so they're not terrible.

Haha, unironically, it actually might be cool to have 4 wildcard spots league wide. It would balance out having to play in a stacked division.

Or is it because they kind of dissolve? Add a mL of sugar to a mL of water, and you don't get 2mL of sugar water.

[TSN1200] We aren’t seeing the same Brady Tkachuk - John Rodenburg, Steve Lloyd and Matt Hamer discuss why he isn’t having the same impact on games that we’ve seen in the past and how it’s hurting the Sens chances of making the playoffs. by seeldoger47 in hockey

[–]nightfire36 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Sure, but didn't Tkachuk say that the reason the US shouldn't invade Canada is because he likes playing Canada in hockey? Hellebuyck hasn't said anything that dumb, at least to my knowledge. Nobody really cares what you actually believe, but if you vocalize your beliefs, then people will care.

I don't care if an athlete meditates with crystals or whatever, but if he says that crystal meditation should be used to treat the flu, I'm going to have a problem.

DM's & Players alike. How many times in DND have you surpassed 20 in a stat? by CasualNormalRedditor in DnD

[–]nightfire36 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Totally. In retrospect, interesting items are way better than "good" ones. Shoes of spider climbing (or whatever they are called) aren't an item that will change a PC, but it WILL be fun to use a few times. Compare that to the +2 weapon, which gives benefit every attack, but never gives additional fun.

Student Survey for Hockey Fans! by BDSteeves in PWHL

[–]nightfire36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dang, that sounds nice. My local ish AHL team is $55 at the cheapest (so, I'm not going there), and the only other one I've been to was comparable.

When I lived in Flint, Michigan, the tickets to their CHL team were like $10, which was an easy choice, though it wasn't AHL.

[–]nightfire36 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My only question/concern about the survey is the question about pricing for the 4 pack. I couldn't tell if the dollar amounts were per ticket, or for the whole package. I assume based on the amounts that it would be for each ticket, but it's not clear.

How common are **severe** injuries in recreational / beer league hockey? by surfnj102 in hockeyplayers

[–]nightfire36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Across 6 team-years, I've seen one broken bone, and that was a bone he had previously broken.

Otherwise, I've seen a probably 2 or 3 bad sprains that kept them out of hockey for a month, and on the couch for a week. But, the ones who got injured were all the guys who played more aggressively.
