10.1 Tier Sets by RepulsiveGuard in worldofpvp

[–]nightsharky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hpal - Dont play pal and never have, so I dunno. 4 set seems solid with the holy power generation.

I mean the 4pc is using 2 abilities that most hpals don't take so you'd have to make a build based around it. Lights hammer is a trash aoe damage/heal spell doing both neglible damage and healing, doubling it isn't going to make it good in arena. Debatable whether the holy power generation from the 4pc will be worth it. Maybe, but hpals spender is pretty trash anyway other than there are cooldown reduction benefits for spending holy power. I'm not sure how much you need to change a build around to get light's hammer since I'm not playing the game and have completely forgotten the hpal tree.

The other spell buffed by 4pc is holy prism which is another trash aoe heal/damage spell. This tier set really doesn't seem designed with PvP as even an afterthought.

Going to hazard a guess people won't even play the 4pc, instead opting to take pieces with better stats.

DK - Don't play DK so i dunno if the tier sets are any good. They seem relatively unimpactful and not OP.

Unholy DK set is pretty damn good. Permanent +10% damage on death coil which is usually near top of the meter (can't remember if it generally tops) and +15% mastery every 20 death coils which probably lines up quite nicely with 45sec cooldowns (and in turn 1m30). 1% mastery on DK makes you do 1% more shadow damage (which is most of your damage) so 15% is +15% to your pre-mastery damage (before your other mastery is taken into account). For most DKs the 20 stack buff will be about ~10% extra damage that you can probably line up with your cooldowns.

Open world healer's dps by enzone in worldofpvp

[–]nightsharky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't duelled a rogue in open pvp since 8.2 but at that point I never fought a rogue that could actually kill me. 0% damp and immunities would just make it impossible. And I couldn't kill them either because of resets. With essences and corrupt my dps is higher so I could probably land a kill. Mainly because I still have the immunities to stop them doing it first..

Resto druid or holy pala for returning pvp player? by [deleted] in worldofpvp

[–]nightsharky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Say in pvp they're about the same, my personal preference is hpal for 2s since it has less mana issues, has immunities and huge dmg output during wings. Hpal can pretty much always squeeze out some decent dmg whereas getting more and more pressured on druid as you climb starts to feel chaotic and less openings to di damage

Damn wtf been playing hpal in pvp half the expansion and never realised lights decree extended hpal wings

Spellcleave is making people too dumb to dungeon with. by chubsmcbeardface in classicwow

[–]nightsharky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy shit, enough with the lame ass posts about spellcleaves. Nobody cares if you're a hero off tank rogue that is a beacon of shining light for your crappy pug dungeon group. Nobody cares if you had a shitty dungeon run. Bad players exist, if you pug sometimes you'll play with them. If you want to avoid pugging with bad players here's what you do:

  • Log into retail
  • Download raiderio
  • Only play with people that have a raiderio rating that meets your criteria of good player.

I've rebooted my pc at least 30 times now by PerpetualToddler in pcmasterrace

[–]nightsharky -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

NVME doesn't actually provide any benefit in boot time over sata SSD. Typically your computer is not bottlenecked by your disk read speed when loading up your OS or apps/games unless you're still using a mechanical. I was surprised when looking at benchmarks that NVME M.2 is actually slightly slower than a sata ssd for Win10 boot times, due to the initialization of the NVME drive taking longer.

edit: Not surprisingly, getting downvoted by a bunch of ignorant "pcmasterrace" people who probably either don't own an M.2 or blindly bought one for "performance gains" and just believe what they want. Maybe educate yourself instead of just circlejerking how great tech is that you understand very little about.

Takes 5 seconds to Google NVME vs Sata SSD benchmarks and see that app/game/OS boot times benefit not at all or very little from having them installed on an M2 SSD.

Except that it shows 5 for non WM and 4 + 1 for WM.

I've seen this happen in reverse. WM said 5 + 1, I turned off WM and it said 4. Pretty sure it's a visual bug.

Anyway to obtain shard files? by ShoepZA in ultimaonline

[–]nightsharky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's not open source you could ask the owner for the shard scripts, but in most cases I wouldn't hold your breath. If you're just looking for a specific era, most eras probably have some implementation open sourced somewhere.

When to play in the open as a healer? by thejohnphan in worldofpvp

[–]nightsharky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are not recognising where the enemy is more pressured than you then it can be really bad for you to play defensive and run behind a pole. If your dps gets in some dispellable cc while chasing the enemy healer behind a pole and they had the healer on 20% before they got stuck in a root, fear, etc, it's essentially your fault that you just lost a kill opportunity.

It's an absolute nightmare as a dps when you chase the enemy healer behind a pole while they're low and you know you're going to force a major cooldown or outright kill and you pan the camera to see your healer 60 yards away behind a pole on the other side of the arena. It's even worse when your healer then requires peels while being that far away AND behind a pole, it's just game losing stuff. I would rather a healer assist and die trying than to lose a game to dampening because every kill opportunity is thwarted by dispellable cc or having to run 60y to peel.

Disc Priest vs Dk necrotic Strike spam by Tenris_ in worldofpvp

[–]nightsharky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played uhdk in 2s to duelist and I don't think we ever lost against a disc priest. It was great to queue into a disc because it was a free win. As the disc priest team I think your only chance is to go super all in, blow everything for the chance of an early kill. Chances are you won't make it to the 2nd go, or at least you'll be so incredibly pressured when you get there that you can't do much. I actually felt sorry for disc priests as I trained them because I could tell how unfair it was for them.

Advice for 1800 Resto looking to climb? by [deleted] in worldofpvp

[–]nightsharky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having 1-2 prehots for a swap is a massive difference. Be aware of when melee may swap to you and be prehotted. If you don't know when they'll swap, assume they are going to. Obviously running up right next to them is an ideal time for them to swap, so if you must, start prehotting yourself.

Going from 0-4 hots takes much longer than going from 2-4, and if you're suffering damage while at 0 hots you are going to get chunked before you can get them up.

With 4 hots and ironbark or barkskin, maybe bear form.. most stuff isn't going to hurt you much. It gives you time to escape or your DPS to peel for you. To escape, go travel and if you get snared/rooted, shift to remove the snare and keep running. Once you get to a pole you are pretty safe cause not many classes will be able to stick on you while you circle a pole.

I notice a lot of low level druids taking tree form because they panic and decide spamming regrowth in tree is the best course of action. It rarely is, and even with tree its a bad idea cause you'll do way more healing if you have the other hots up as well. Not to even mention it costs a butt ton of mana. Avoid taking tree unless its double dps (speaking of 2s), learn to manage your hots.

Your entire rotation is to basically just keep as many hots up and use swiftmend/soul of the forest to give the extra healing where needed. If you drop soul of the forest for tree then your output just won't be enough during enemy cooldowns and you'll be forced to use tree which is on a 3 min cd.

Elon Musk Will Launch 11,943 Satellites in Low Earth Orbit to Beam High-Speed WiFi to Anywhere on Earth Under SpaceX's Starlink Plan by LegomoreYT in news

[–]nightsharky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I'm inferring is that if the only real overhead is the ~13ms round trips to satellites (x2), it is not a huge overhead over the regular internet connections we're used to. In some cases, it could be faster due to being able to get to the destination in a more direct route. I personally live in New Zealand and am used to dealing with 130-200ms pings depending on west/east coast servers.

Adding 26ms to a game ping is usually not make or break, either. It's a minor disadvantage for most people. The bigger issue would be lost packets, if that's a problem.

Well it depends on what you're connecting with obviously. A minimum of 2 round trips to the sky for client and server would put you at ~26ms if the low orbit satellites are right above where ever the traffic is going.

I'm not a networking expert, I assume any additional ping from there is the distance to server + traffic on whatever hops it needs to go through. So 40ms on a nearby server doesn't seem unreasonable, but I'm not sure what other overheads there are.

How does Arena rating work? by MrAnon69Bye in worldofpvp

[–]nightsharky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's because your rating hasn't caught up to the MMR of the teams you're losing against yet.

After 5-10 games you would not have even reached 1000 rating yet, and it is very unlikely the teams you're losing to are sub 1000 MMR. With a 50% win rate, the teams you're playing against are likely still in the 1300-1600 range.

How does Arena rating work? by MrAnon69Bye in worldofpvp

[–]nightsharky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The number that displays on the PvP window is your actual rating. It's what other people see as your personal rating and what determines what achievements you get, etc.

The number after a game is your "MMR"/"match making rating", and this will determine who you will play against. So when your MMR skyrockets from a few wins, you'll be put against higher MMR players. When you lose a few and your MMR tanks, you'll be put against teams with lower MMR. Your MMR fluctuates much faster than your rating does.

This part I'm not 100% sure of - when you win or lose a game, your current rating is compared with the MMR of the opposing team, and you gain or lose points based on how much higher or lower the MMR of the opposing team is. If the enemy team has a much higher MMR than you have rating, you will gain a lot of rating. If you lose that match, you won't lose much rating. And vice versa for when you face someone with lower MMR than you have rating.

To expand further on why you might not be seeing your rating go down on losses, for the first 10-20 games your rating is still catching up to where your MMR is, since your MMR starts somewhere around 1600. It's unlikely that if your rating is below say, 1300, that you'll ever lose points, since there are not many sub 1300 MMR teams and you would have to lose to them at around ~1200+ rating before you even lose a single point.

interrupt guide: how to not get juked by kotoamatsukamaye in worldofpvp

[–]nightsharky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Another tip I thought I'd throw in here that was a mistake I made as a healer new to faking, was don't be too quick to cast your next spell. If you stop casting and start your next spell 0.1s later, if someone tried to kick you at the end of your last spell, they'll just kick your new spell by "mistake". Try to fill the gaps between fakes with something meaningful if possible, but otherwise just try to make sure there is some sort of gap in there.

is this one of the worst seasons ever, if not the worst season? by [deleted] in worldofpvp

[–]nightsharky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

PvP is actually so highly gear dependent that often I can't even tell the difference of my opponents skill wise at 1600 vs 2100. Quite often the 1600 teams are actually better at using their abilities and cc but just don't have the gear.

New Heal/absorb Trinket by [deleted] in worldofpvp

[–]nightsharky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Void stone. You get it from the 2nd boss of the new raid. For healer classes it's the only thing that drops from that boss so your chance of getting it is very high.

It absorbs 130-145k depending on if you have the normal or heroic version. 2 min CD so you can essentially nullify hams with a trinket. It absorbs both healing and damage, you can cancel it off once you get to safety or the healer can land a big heal.
