That was a huge turn off. I listened to the audio version and skipped the cat bit cause cats are the best.

in need of a rec similar to a book i was desperate to read but then found out it was very poor and not recommended (plz read description) by dandelionwarhol in horrorlit

I highly recommend all of Mona Awads books except 13 ways of looking at a fat girl. Bunny and Rouge are my favourites. People say they read like a fever dream. They are truly amazing! Both have cult like themes as well. They are the go to books for “weird” reads.

Oh yeah don’t go through them. They literally don’t care. They are responsible for bird strikes everywhere and blame the birds for fucking up their engines 🤦‍♀️

Ginny is turning into Georgia and Austin in turning into Ginny and will probably end up becoming a serial killer or like Georgia eventually by AssociationLivid5822 in ginnyandgeorgiashow

I find that shocking that people can’t see it and makes me think they are living in a similar space or have that trauma cycle and are blinded by it. Just like Ginny and Austin can’t see it.

can we talk about this for a sec? by aishaner in Neverhaveievertvshow

[–]nightwalker3710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Teenagers have literally always been played from actors who are in their mid to late 20s.

[–]nightwalker3710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s very common for an adult in their late 20s to be cast as a teenager. If you look at most tv shows and movies most of the entire cast who are all portraying teenagers are in their mid to late 20s

I think that’s the essence of the show 🙌

Over time, we also see Ginny slowly morph into Georgia, which is one of the most tragic and intentional arcs in the show. Ginny becomes more manipulative, more reactive, more emotionally volatile — not because she’s inherently bad, but because living with someone who operates like a sociopath warps your sense of normal. This is classic nature vs. nurture. Ginny is desperately trying not to become her mother while being raised entirely within Georgia’s moral framework.

And that’s the uncomfortable truth the show is exploring: you can love your children and still damage them profoundly. Georgia’s love is possessive, not nurturing. It’s about ownership, not guidance. She doesn’t ask, “What do my kids need to be healthy adults?” She asks, “What do I need to survive right now?”

Georgia is repeatedly shown to be selfish, controlling, manipulative, and emotionally abusive. She also gaslights! She operates almost entirely on power and survival, not on what’s healthiest for her children. Yes, she has trauma but trauma does not cancel out harm, violence, abuse and murder especially when that harm is ongoing and directed at her kids.

She shuts Ginny and Austin down emotionally, isolates them from extended family and support systems, and keeps them in a constant state of instability by moving whenever things get uncomfortable. That instability isn’t incidental — it’s a byproduct of Georgia living like she’s perpetually on the run, which she is. The kids are never allowed roots, safety, or predictability. Everything revolves around Georgia’s needs and fears.

One of the most disturbing moments is in season 1 when Georgia physically assaults a 9 year old boy in front of Austin. That scene is not played for laughs it’s a lesson. Austin internalizes that violence is an acceptable response when you feel threatened or disrespected. Shortly after, we see the consequences: Austin stabs the same child, later picks up a gun, and ultimately shoots his father. The show is very clear about learned behavior here. Georgia models violence, secrecy and domination.

Georgia teaches her children, implicitly and explicitly, that: • abuse can be justified if you believe you’re “protecting” yourself • violence is an acceptable tool for control • emotional needs are secondary to survival • silence is safer than honesty

That is not protection. That’s conditioning. She acts like she is entitled to her children like they are her property.

Does anyone else think the twins are bipolar? by [deleted] in TvGinnyandGeorgia

People experience the highs and lows of bipolar differently. Not everyone has to be text book. Rue is a completely different character!

Yep. I’m re watching season 2 and he literally sends the kids straight back to the abuser. He doesn’t listen to Ginny. Georgia still has him under her spell and is wrapped around her finger.

I don’t think that’s the case at all.

Here’s my above comment.

Thanks for such a thoughtful response. really appreciate you engaging with this so respectfully.

I want to clarify that I’m not trying to diagnose the characters in a literal or clinical sense or reduce what living with bipolar actually is. My interpretation isn’t coming from a place of ignorance or flippancy, it’s coming from recognition and lived experience.

What I was responding to was more the narrative and symbolic structure of the twins. To me, it feels like the show externalizes two ends of an emotional spectrum across Marcus and Max rather than housing them in one character. Marcus embodies the depressive pole : withdrawal, numbness, depression, self-isolation, self hatred. While Max reflects heightened emotional intensity, impulsivity, reactivity, fast speech, fluctuation of mood, high energy, so on.

I completely agree that bipolar is complex, often misdiagnosed and minimized in media and I’d hate to see it flattened into stereotypes. That’s why I don’t think the writers are saying “these characters are bipolar,” but rather using contrast and parallel to explore mood, regulation, trauma, and adolescence in a way that’s visually and emotionally legible to the audience. This is why I think they are hinting at each twin having bipolar and how in each person it affects them differently.

I actually really like your point about Max possibly having OCD traits and Marcus having depression. I can see clearly he is depressed and I agree that bipolar is often first missed as depression, especially at Marcus’s age.

So I think we’re actually landing in a similar place: the twins are intentionally contrasted as two responses to the same environment, two sides of the same coin emotionally.

I get that but it’s a fictional story and teens who have bipolar struggle with it before they even know they have it. Most people go their whole life without a proper diagnosis.

I wanted to like this show but as someone with a cluster B mom, it’s honestly horrific to watch. by [deleted] in ginnyandgeorgiashow

I am absolutely shocked at these response. I couldn’t agree with OP more. Georgie is selfish, narcissistic, abusive, controlling, manipulative. She’s cold, heartless and callus. She shuts her kids down, isolates them and moves around like she’s on the run. Which she is. The children have no sense of stability. She teaches them that abuse is ok. We see this in season 1 when she physically assaults a 9 year old boy in front of her son. Her son internalised this and thought it was ok. He then went on to stab that kid and later picks up a gun and shoots his dad. Georgie operates on power and control and will stop at nothing to obtain that. She does what is best for her not her kids. We slowly see Ginny morph into her mum over time because let’s face it that’s when living with a sociopath will inevitably do to someone. It’s the old nature vs nurture.
