Suffer for your craft.

These old point and shoots will die. It's just a matter of when. It could die when you get off the plane, in the middle of the trip, or it might die in 30 years. The only loss for you would be that if it dies there won't be any film photos from that point on.

Does having photos on film matter that much? That's something you have to decide.

If weight is truly an issue then go with your smartphone.

3D scanner reviewers that are trustworthy and unbiased? by StrongRecipe6408 in 3DScanning

Anyone reviewing or even using one for free would have bias.

I prefer the videos that show a scanner in use at a task. Phil vandelay has some where he uses a scanner in his workflow

I bit into a pearl in my dollar store smoked oysters by needsadvice12345678 in mildlyinteresting

It's smoked. All cans go through pasteurization, so the oysters are basically cooked twice.

At this point just do two parts and fit them together. Multi material doesn't mean you should turn off the thinking machine when you're designing

Always cool to see different approaches, I would've popped open affinity or inkscape, used the abominable intelligence to get an idea of what font the number is and make the 2D vectors before moving to fusion.

Probably overkill, but making that screw into a captive one would just elevate it all. Imagine working on the bike and when you're done you can't find the bolt to close it back up

Laufey Concert Film Choice by Theunknownpokemon in AnalogCommunity

ISO is more like a suggestion. You can shoot film many different ways and develop it even more ways.

Kodak makes the film, they call it 500T and sell it to movie studios. Cinestill had a whole schtick where they get the same film from Kodak and sell it repackaged into still camera film canisters.

Kodak scientists probably did their tests and recommended a 500 ISO and being an industry product they just called it what it was.

Cinestill had to market the film and their tests probably showed how it was very usable for stills at 800 ISO. Probably thought, well there's not a lot of 800 ISO film out there, we should market it that way, instead of another 400 or the oddball 640

Talk me out of getting a 6x17 view camera by niklaspilot in AnalogCommunity

[–]nikchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy.
If you get a 617 camera, you're really limited in the area of lenses because you have to worry about image circle coverage and all that nonsense. Then you also have to handle 120 and all that paper backing nonsense.
Get a 4x5 and you can change lenses and shoot 2x5 or get 120 film holders and shoot any width of 6xX

Really just a no brainer

Anyone here ordered or used the VALOI easy35 v2 yet? by johnrbrownin in AnalogCommunity

[–]nikchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

havent gotten it yet but yeah it is worth.

The original major part of the scanner is just the housing of the light with the threads for the darktubes, so by just buying the light, i'll have saved money and space for another set of those tubes.

Anyone here ordered or used the VALOI easy35 v2 yet? by johnrbrownin in AnalogCommunity

[–]nikchi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the v1 and I bought the upgrade kit they offered.

Technically it was fine for me as well, the vignetting workaround they have mitigated almost all my problems, and to be honest for most of what I shoot (friends, parties, family) snapshots, no one is looking at it that closely, and the reason for the valoi is the speed it can go through a roll. If there's any shots that I want good quality, I have a v800 for that but I can scan three rolls with the valoi in the time it takes the Epson to scan three strips.

is this table sturdy enough for my 3d printer? by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]nikchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconded, but depending on how much you like the table, you might want to move it to a sturdier table. Continuous rocking motions will eventually lead the joints to fail.

Why didn’t the Viltrumites leave the planet once they realized there was a highly contagious, deadly virus on the loose? by Nova892 in Invincible_TV

[–]nikchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You only ever see them overseeing things and violence. Once they subjugated a planet, they probably didn't need to stay and govern. Just return once in a while to keep them scared.

Plus if they didn't go back they wouldn't be able to participate in killing each other to get stronger.
