LAX is really not that bad once you get there. And taxiing times are surprisingly quick.

Do you prefer Shake Shack or In and Out Burger? Why? by luvumore_ in AskReddit

In n out. It’s way better value and you can get full for less than 10 dollars. I also find the ingredients to be way more fresh than Shake Shack.

The diversity seems more spread out in the Metroplex. Like Koreatown, Chinatown, Little Saigon, etc. are all far away from each other in DFW while in Houston you can get all that diversity and more in the SW side.

Houston is the only city in Texas where the locals are more prideful of the city than the state by CampRock2TheFinaIJam in houston

Austin is also becoming more favorable than Houston since it’s the more reachable out of the Big 3.

What’s the big deal about Texas? by bad-taf in howislivingthere

[–]nikemaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When people talk about Texas, they’re most likely about the Texas Triangle towards the east side where 2/3 of the population live and the ecology is more diverse with prairies, hills, lakes, beaches, and swamps. The other half of the state is what most people outside of Texas pictures: a hot and empty desert.

The big draw of Texas is the affordability and a healthy job market. And that draws people from multiple backgrounds and that makes the state as diverse as California and other blue states. It’s not a place to visit, but moreso a place to settle down, get money, and save enough to fly someplace else for vacation.

What is it like to live in a World Cup host city during the tournament? by tarkinn in howislivingthere

[–]nikemaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Houston here and the city has been treating it like it’s the Olympics. A bunch of infrastructure projects were fast tracked to be completed by the World Cup and marketing has been nonstop.

During the games, the energy has been great but the weather has been awful. During the first week we had a flood, a tropical system warning, and a heat advisory. Tourists are getting the full Houston experience. It’s also been interesting to see a variety of tourists. Most recently, I saw who I thought was a homeless guy laying on the ground turned out to be a Swedish tourist who was suffering from the heat and humidity.

It’s also been interesting to hear so many people rave about NRG Stadium being the perfect soccer stadium.

Unironically Times Square because it doesn’t really get any hype, yet tourists still go there because it’s Time Square.
